That's a fallacy. Even in science ficition, normal stuff should work normally. The sky shouldn't be pink just because Superman can make the Great Wall crumble with a fart.

There's suspension of disbelief/verisimilitude, and then there's straight up fantasy/ridiculousness.

I don't entirely disagree. Thing is, there's a difference between hardcore science fiction (e.g., District 9, Alien) and fantasy-based comics. If we were dealing strictly with the former, Superman would look more like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial than a muscled dude in a red and blue costume who can emit heat beams from his eyes. That's precisely why Chris Nolan was adamant about keeping otherworldly DC heroes out of his Batman trilogy.

However, in light of WB's recent efforts to create a shared playground where all of these characters -- aliens, sorcerers, amazons, and such -- coexist, I think that allows for a little more flexibility in how scientific facts are approached.

Batman is working with Earthbased technology. Therefore he can bend our laws of physics, not outright break them.

Now if he got his hand some Apokoliptan tech, go balls to the wall fantasy. But doing that with human technology breaks the rules set by the universe where their Earth and our Earth is very similar. Main difference being the presence of fantastical alien players.
