Ryan Reynolds was not very good as GL. He needed to be great and he didnt come close. Part of the problem was the mask, which looked weird on his face. My gf pointed out that his eyes are too close together which didnt help. He needs to stick to ensemble rom coms and the like. He's not a superhero or even an action star. And hes not a good enough actor to transform himself. Washboard abs arent adequate when there are more talented people available.

Just because you guys like Reynolds doesn't mean they are keeping him.

It is an obvious point, and yet he still keeps getting brought up for some reason. RR will never ever play GL again. Ever. Move the bleep on. Same goes for Lynn Collins btw. Although in her case shes done in any kind of big tentpole movie period. Reynolds can probably still get other work. Rom coms and the like.

I don't get why people are so fixated on Reynolds.

I think it's because they want some forced sense of continuity between the movies instead of essentially "rebooting" the Green Lantern character again.

Because that's what Justice League is looking at now.

Or, you know, we liked him.

It doesn't matter that you like him. That's not going to get him brought back.

People are acting like he should be brought back. And it's time to let go and move on.

I don't really care if Reynolds comes back, but your posts are so annoying I hope he'll come back now.

People who continue to lobby for something that is never going to happen is also annoying. Pretty simple.

I was just reading the latest JL from the New 52 and it got me thinking, maybe the direction and tone of the whole JL film should be the team trying to protect the world and not just look and seem like Olympic Gods on high but actually try to be like Olympic all powerful gods protecting every man woman and child on Earth, and the pressures that go with that.
While the Avengers were more about down to Earth heroes saving the Earth, the JL film could be heroes put on a pedestool and the heroes trying to live up to that. trying to seem perfect, trying to save EVERYONE, trying to seem all knowing and all powerful and unstoppable.
What do you guys think? Should the JL film follow the comic with this idea?

Has it been confirmed that Reynolds wont return? If not, no one should act like it's a certainty.

IF JL moves ahead, casting will be a big problem as only Cavill is sure for Superman, they have to find at least four more suitable actors, getting Reynolds back will be much easier than go looking for a replacement.

I would not mind Reynolds returning as Hal Jordan. That leaves casting Batman, Wonder Woman and Flash.

It certainly helps to move project quickly that way.

would anyone be opposed to them having more then one lantern, if bringing back ryan is that much of a concern? they are space cops after all.

Time to move on, he was nothing special. He's funny but he's nothing special as an actor either. I bet there's about 10 actors lined up who can do a better job.

I think with the GL corps you should probably have several of them cameo as they're all at Oa or something at a meeting, only to have Jordan be called back to Earth for some kind of catastrophe the ring informs him about, then he discovers the other heroes while attending to it or something.

i wouldn't have a problem with him returning if they want a little continuity. chris pine is my guy and has been, but i don't have any disdain for reynolds, even if I'm not really a fan.

exactly.

basically, that's how i want him introduced. he's off space copping somewhere, and he gets there as supes, bats, wondy etc are dealing with whatever threat.

Reynolds was great as Hal when the script called for Hal, when it called for the stock Reynolds character it was "meh" and that had zero to do with Reynolds' acting and everything to do with the writers writing "for" him. It's like Jim Carrey's Riddler... it wasn't Riddler except with some resemblance to Frank Gorshin's Riddler. Mostly it was Ace Ventura/The Mask/Jim Carrey character #154.

Had RR been allowed to truly act the role folks would be singing a different tune. Give him another shot in JL and write Hal fully as Hal, a more seasoned and serious Hal. See ejat the audience response is. You never really know. As has been pointed out way too much, Hulk under performed in both his theatrical films... and he was a SMASH hit(pun definitely intended) in The Avengers. It's possible GL could prove the same. Make people want to see what happens with Hal and Sinestro by way of JL. And introduce the new conception of Batman. And it would be a great opportunity to take this previously grounded and realistic character and toss him into this mix of aliens, myths and superpowered people to be the entry point for the GA. They relate to Batman as a human being, believe Batman could be, so he is our "everyman." To some extent it is through Batman's eyes that we view these demi-gods.

I had no issues with Reynolds. If a JL has a better script than GL I would expect him to show better this time around.
