The CG movie idea has some good pros
But idk I just like the idea of a live action spectacle over a CG one, but that's just me. And if they do CGI it make it like the DC Universe opening less like GL The Animated Series or The Incredibles in terms of animation
I think they should show the heroes in their civilian role as much as they can as long as it applies to the story. Whether that's taking off their masks or playing the role of an ambassador. I think having them in "hero mode" all the time is a bad idea.
One of the ideas that I like in DC comic heroes over Marvel, especially when it comes to JL vs the MCU Avenger's is secret identities. And I would want to see secret identities explored in a JL movie and how much can you actually trust someone when they wont even show you their true face
I dont think they should really worry about setting it apart from the Avengers
I think they could do the more realistic version and animate it more fully, with more money for a movie than you would get for a video game I am sure that would be possible.
I just meant, in terms of face time, in many movies like Thor he never wears his helmet because of face time. Spider-Man constantly removed his mask to bring it back to Peter Parker and to show Tobey's face. Actors might even have it in their contract to have some face time. But in the movie if there is a scene like in the animated JLA film Starcrossed where the JLA have to go into hiding and dress in civilian clothes they should show it, but they wouldn't have to worry about Ryan Renolds needing to show his face because it will be CG characters.
Maybe it's shortsighted of me, but if they are going to do an entirely CGI Justice League film, I just won't be able to accept it unless it is on par with the likes of Avatar and the Coachella hologram. I also don't think the general audience would see what is essentially a cartoon superhero film, they'd look like it would appeal to kids, but have a tone for older audiences. I think as lifelike as possible is the way to go.
I think it would depend on how it was presented. Tin Tin I don't think the studio knew exactly how to advertise it. But the JLA they would know exactly. They would show Batman and Superman, and emphasize the greatest team coming together to stop an ultimate threat, and they would show lots of superhero action. I think the tone of the film would be what was important, no matter how detailed. Like if it looked like the Incredibles but was as dark as something like Young Justice or Dark Knight.
Yep I'd be game for an all CGI JL but it's because I'm open to all forms of media. Unfortunately there is a stigma that if it's animated in any way whether stylized or not it's not "a real movie" and just a "cartoon" when it comes to general audiences.
This is why motion capture features even with a more adult or adventurous feel (Beowulf, Tin Tin) didn't catch on with audiences like that at all and these movies had master filmmakers at the helm. It's just very difficult to sell and in the end would probably end up being a huge waste of money on WB's part. They have no choice but to go live action with JL or not make JL at all. Especially in light of The Avengers.
Beowulf had a few problems. The CG was good for its time but looked a little animatronic, Pirates of the Caribbean styled. And like Tin Tin I don't think they knew how to advertise it but I don't see any doubts about how to sell JLA to the public. Incredibles was such a high grossing movie and I think it won an Oscar too.
Also, studio heads might be trying to find a way to set themselves apart from the Avengers, we may not care but they probably do. There are always films that seem to come out at the same time about similar topics. Antz and Bugs Life, is just one example out of many others. They would want people to see this as unconnected from the Avengers and maybe because of that not compare.
The CGI version of JL: Mortal was considered when budget became an issue. The plan was to consider photorealistic CGI.
The more stylized the design the less scrutiny there would be from the audience. The more human something looks the more people will notice when something small is off. But CG has come a long way, Tin Tin is a perfect example. If they could do a JLA film in the style of Tin Tin with motion capture starring stars like Christian Bale as the voice of Batman, Angelina Jolie as the voice of Wonder Woman, Neil Patrick Harris as the voice of the Flash, Ryan Renolds as Green Lantern, etc, I think they would have no problem bringing in the public. Chris Rock joked its the easiest job in the world because they come in do their lines one day or even a weeks worth and then leave and 2or 3 years later the film is done. Motion capture I think would be best, as long as the animators fully animate the faces and add such things as squash and stretch, anticipation, ect, to the animation instead of just straight from motion capture.
CG would also allow them to make the style of the film look as comic book as they want or as photorealistic as they want.
With Superman and Batman in the same movie, along with the others, and with big names attached, I doubt they would not be a hit.
