My personal favorite Janelle Monae Song is Sincerly Jane.

LOL Damn so true. She marches to her own drum,The only downside is that she's signed to Bad Boy.Diddy owns her soul.

That Janelle song has been in my head all day. Is her album coming out soon?

Supposed to come out in May. You could get this one to tide you over until then:

These young ladies are sounding really good...unbelievable harmonies. And they're all HOT. The next Destinys Child perhaps?

Janelle Monae is fantastic. Saw her live again last month, and I looking forward to her debut LP!

Well, the entertainment industry is gonna have to make room! Especially for these talented girls. Behold...SWV circa 2010. These are from the new album.

Maybe some of the current talentless kiddie hacks can take a back seat for a while and let legends like these young ladies, Monica, Maxwell, etc. take the mic...and show 'em how it's done properly. The more quality R&B stars from the 90s the better...we need it right now.

And how cool is it that all three of these chocolate sistahs have retained their ORIGINAL noses and booties? Plastic =

I'm stoked over this news.

LeLee looks like she's retaining water, and she was my favorite. On the strength of you pumpin them up alone SoulMod, ima keep an ear out. I'm glad Monica is doin well, Badu, Jill Scott new Sade there's a few good strong soul female acts out right now, y'all done hiped me to a couple of them new ones. I hope SWV get some play, I held out for Anita Baker for years and she eventually came out with new stuff.

I'm cool with SWV coming back. It's nice to see those three back in the game.

I hope they get Brian Alexander Morgan to produce on the record. He did "Weak", "Rain", "I'm So Into You" and "Right Here/Human Nature."

So far the producer list for the new album is fairly impressive:

Carvin & Ivan (Jazmine Sullivan, Chris Brown)

Shep Crawford (Tamia, Mary Mary, Deborah Cox)

Kelly Price

Rodney Jerkins

I also read somewhere that Pharrell is gonna hook them up with something again (he and Neptunes produced "Use Your Heart" back in 1996). I just hope that SWV doesn't lower their standards to "fit in" with the trash on the radio right now. That would defeat the purpose.

I think their album will be a critical success but a commercial failure.

I guess you could say the same for me, with the gangsta rap music. It's literally so much the same, I don't see how it can be entertaining.

both sub genres have become stagnant because the artist are more focused on doing what's "hot" instead of attempted to be innovative and branch out when it comes to the content of their music.

There's only so many ways you can talk about how gangsta you are or how much you love someone until it just becomes boring.

I dunno. I think the market is ripe for their return. Think about it: SWV sold over 20 million records between their 3 albums. And they have at least ten top 10 pop/R&B singles that either went gold, plat, or double-plat. Commercially, they were far, far more successful than Maxwell, who dissapeared off the scene around the same time they did.

And look at how well Maxwell is doing.

I think it's all about the music at this point. If they make hot music it WILL sell. People don't care who sings it as long as it moves them. SWV still has juice I think. And now that they've gotten rid of that Momma/Baby weight and toned up again (Taj was on Survivor so that had to helped) they'll be able to cap on the sexual appeal that's necessary too. What I like about this new look is that they clearly know they're in their late 30's so they are not dressing like hoes or trashy little girls. They're sexy, but with a lot of class.

I've been in the entertainment industry long enough to know that these factors can sell any previously successful artist.

SWV has a big enough name to sell decent. Chances are slim that they will be chart toppers like they used to be, but going gold or platinum for an act that has been on hiatus for over a decade is pretty damn good.

^ * points to Monica*

Where is Monica at on the charts with her new "Everything" single? She's been gone for a long time. Yet, her new song has been No. 1 on the countdowns here locally on the radio but I don't know if that translates to what's going on nationally. Hell, look at the Gap Band's former lead singer Charlie Wilson. He's blowing up on Urban adult contemporary and they are playing his s*** OUT.

My point is that I think people are hungering for some decent s*** to listen to right now, and it will move them to buy.

Monica wasn't gone as long as they were though. They've been gone for over ten years right? Monica at least had something going in the 2000s.

SWV's last album dropped in 1998. However, the lead singer has dropped at least four solo albums since then so she's at least kept memory of the group alive consisently since then. Monica was gone for at least 10 years, so it's about the same.
