So what do you guys think of relaxed vs. natural hair on black women?

I don't mind either. As long as she has a pretty face. I used to go out with this girl and she would NOT let me touch her hair. She used to tell me, "I spent too much time on this hair for you to go messing it up". We eventually broke up and I started going out with her friend, who at the time I thought looked like Mariah Carey, but in retrospect... she didn't look like her at all. :csad:

No, I never saw 8 Mile. He was in that movie right? I'm not a fan of his. He did a sex scene in it?

Is that the only thing on your mind??

When it comes to kinky hair and whether or not to relax it, I'll be up front: I'm not one for napps. Now, it doesn't have to be relaxed, but it does need to be civilized.

Now, not being able to touch the hair would suck--one less place to touch and play with while making the beast with two backs and all. :o

Yes, like Pyro mentioned--and a LOT of subtextual sexual tension between him and Mekhi Phifer's character. :o

hahahahaha

As for natural vs relaxed.

I dont mind what they do to their hair as long as it looks GOOD. As lightning strikes said, it does need to be civilized lol

Hypes International Black guy reporting for duty :woot:
But seriously cool to see the thread back

The mayor of New Orleans once referred to his city as "Chocolate City."
Sounds like a black strip club

The BBC Small Island show looks good.

I vote we kick Edie Murphy out of the Black Race until he starts making good movies again
Idris Elba tweets his body to publicise new Brit film ‘Legacy’
This film is just what the UK black film industry needs. A talented black British director (Thomas Ikimi) collaborating with Idris Elba, the latest black actor to make it big in the States seemingly never to return to the UK scene.

‘Driis’ is executive producing and starring in this independent thriller, which began filming back in May and is due for release at some point in 2010.

The film also stars Eamonn Walker (Cadillac Records), Clarke Peters (The Wire, Marley and Me) and Monique Gabriela Curnen (The Dark Knight, Half Nelson).

Dubstep a UK underground dance sound is starting to get some love from mainstream US Hip Hop community.

Rapper Eve's Me N'My is well worth a listen if you want to hear what it sounds like.

Dizzee Rascal, Lethal Bizzle and Sway are probabley the most popular mainstream UK rappers at the moment. Sway is signed to Akons label.

The Conservative Shadow Home secretary compared parts of the modern Britain to The Wire and than all the press laughted at him.

^I think it'll catch on. A few of our cats over here got awards at that MOBO thing didn't they?

Yeah MOBo awards been around for about 15 years so alot of Americans have won awards. Its gonna be in Glasgow (Scotland) this year for the first time which should be intresting I guess.

Subject: Whitney Houston: Can She Comeback?

So has anyone heard the new Whitney Houston single? I'm not sure if there's a video out for it or not, the song is entitled "I Turn To You." Before I post my opinion on it, I wanna get your reactions.

All I have to say on the matter is...

BOBBBBAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!

Which essentially means no I don't think she'll come back her public image is so drastically different now that she'll never be able to repair it.

Since this is a Soul Glo thread, I think we need to use it's power to erase one of the biggest frauds in American history. We as Soul Glowers need to let people know the truth........that truth is that Joe Louis was 137 years old when he fought Rocky Marciano.

Oh man, you lyin'. You ain't never met Martin Luther King.

Man, that movie is incredible.

Who's next?

Just listened to the single. It was ok. But I definitely think she can comeback. MJ was dogged for over a decade and he was never unsuccessful. As long as she still has the talent she will be fine.

Hell to the naw!

I found the song completely underwhelming. I kept waiting for her to really "bring it" but it just stayed monotone all the way through.

To me, the first radio single is supposed to be the main appetizer that gets you hooked on wanting to buy the album. It's also supposed to be among the best songs the album has to offer. If that's supposed to be the "best"...

She could make somewhat of a comeback I guess, but anyone thinking she'll be as big as she once was is fooling him/herself. The music industry has changed drastically since her heyday. The last thing I want to see is her nearly 50 year old ass trying to half rap/sing/autotune her way to a hit, while wearing next to nothing and bumping and grinding with Lil Wayne in a video. Plus her voice was pretty much shot the last time I saw her perform on some award show. She couldn't even finish the song...had one of her background singers do it for her.

Yeah, but although his outer appearance drastically changed, vocally Michael Jackson never faltered--if anything, he sounded better as he aged ("Butterflies" remains one of my favorite tunes right behind "Rock With You").

In my opinion, Whitney's voice has lost its power. And it has to be the drugs because her peers (i.e. Mariah Carey for example) have managed to maintain their vocal prowess over the same time period.

Mariah's sounded like crap the last few times I've seen her, too. Those fake boobs must be putting pressure on her vocal cords, somehow...

Really? Was it recent?

She performed "Fly Like A Bird" and was fricking flawless. She hit every note. It sent chills up my spine.

Eh, I've never really been a big fan of Whitney anyway, so...*shrug*

But one thing I'm reading right now that you guys might be interested in--Rebel Yell, by Alice Randall. I'm about in the third chapter, and I'm digging it. I wasn't sure what it was at first, since the synopsis looks like a mystery, but I'm getting it now. So far it seems to be about the son of a lawyer doing the Civil Rights Movement turned rampant neo-con dies at a Civil War renactment restaurant and his first wife goes through his life to try to find how he became the way he was. I'll let you guys know if it's any good when I finish it. :)

That's what kept it in "meh" territory for me.

True. I need to hear how she hits the high notes before I write her off.

The last time I heard Mariah try to hit high notes, it was BAD.
