Lionsgate "Power Rangers" - Part 10

John doesn't like Power Rangers so at least this is appealing to people outside the fanbase. I'm a little afraid it may not be something I want from Power Rangers. I mean did we really have to go Chronicle with this for it to work? It's just a bummer how we have to make this look so muted and act like Power Rangers should be X-Men. Wasn't stuff like Sam Raimi's Spider-Man a hit while being pretty cheesy and B-movie-ish in some places as well as colorful? I just don't see why it has to be what it appears to be. I'm not saying this take can't work but I feel like there may have been another route to go that could be more serious and still feel closer to MMPR's vibe.

It's not going to be entirely Chronicle though, we know what Power Rangers is and we know we're going to get the aliens, Zords etc. Sure the teaser with the less visual effects heavy stuff may have given that vibe, but we know everything else is coming. I mean they haven't even cast Goldar yet and I'm not sure how much Bill Hader has done yet.

I wouldn't say uncanny but she definitely feels like a modern Kimberly.
In these side by side headshots it's uncanny.
In most images, they don't really look all that much alike.

Because modernization.

I think the trailer borrowed plenty of scenes and "color".

With such a generic setup, if it wasn't for the night scenes and more melancholy mood people would be crying it's to similar.

Plenty of suits, Zords and color will appear in followup trailers.

Well, they didn't have to give them un-morphed super-powers. That wasn't a part of the original TV series. Their powers only manifested after they morphed. Billy had to learn to become a better fighter on his own.

Don't think it's all that necessary, but as well as Zack, I am curious if she'll get a new last name?

I do wonder why Latina Trini's last name change seems to come up often in this forum.
Yet not the Asian Ludi Lin cast as Zack Taylor.

So because the actor is asian he has to have a last name like what, Chang, or something? According to the descriptions he grew up in a trailer park, not in China. Expand your brain a little, he can have Taylor as a last name.

And yet we're told it was not generic and cliche. It followed the old superhero movie origin tropes. I didn't draw similarities to the first Spider-Man movie but rather Chronicle in aesthetic and similar story beats. The trailer was a misstep imo.

Well you aint watching the original series. This movie is a whole different beast for better or worse. Its clearly taking the basic ideas of MMPR and turning into a more mature updated film. They didnt have to do anything.

You can really see how blue the movie is with these side-by-side.. ughh

Give the rights to Marvel. They will get rid of the blue. Blue is bad and means your film will end up like Fantastic 4.

The color filter makes that school cafeteria look like a prison hall.

I dunno, giving them super powers un-morphed reminds me a lot of Big Bad Beetleborgs.

As a kid watching I just assumed they were already stronger even out of their uniforms, and they would control their extra strength. For me it's a non issue but some like beating dead horses for months around here.

Civilian powers has been a thing in Power Rangers for years, particularly during the Disney era, so using that concept here isn't a problem in my opinion.

Blue is love, blue is life. :hmr: No, but seriously, I love the cinematography for this movie. It looks colorful when it needs, dark when it needs.

Flip out much!?
LOL that's my point, they don't necessarily have to change either of their names including Trini's. Hence I said:
Don't think it's all that necessary
But just ignore what you quote so you can argue-

My whole point was to indicate what i've seen several times in this forum -
I do wonder why Latina Trini's last name change seems to come up often in this forum.

point is Trini's last name can be explained just as easilly as Zack's.
Yet why do people always point out her's and not the other.
When neither of them necessarily need to change.

Equally why do some flip out when suggesting Zack have an asian last name.
But are fine with suggestions Trini have a Latina last name.
I'm genuinely curious why there is this double standard?

IMHO, giving them civilian powers right off the bat is a cheap gimmick. And it keeps them from having to develop.

Why even morph if they have super powers without morphing?

That's a fair point.

The super strength and hard skin probably isn't going to mean much against Rita or her minions.

I'm just imagining Elizabeth Banks on set going "There's something very familiar about all this" like Old Biff in Back to the Future II.
