Well, I certainly hope PR is marketed well overseas because the marketing in the U.S. has been lousy, IMO.

i'm goin' with 11.3m for the week to Thu & 12m weekend given that it's holiday weekend & seeing there's not much love for LR imo

Thanks...and i hope you're right. I've seen the film...it completely blew me away in its scale and scope.

a 250 million western? A title character that no one under 25 has ever seen and no one under 40 gives a damn about? A 150 minute running time? A license to print money, no?

Way better than mos for sure. Its trailers were out before mos n posters too.

PEople on this forum have been underestimating every movie that comes out after mos and have been wrong every time.

The problem is that starting tomorrow MOS will be losing more screens. At my local theater it is going from 7 showtimes today to only 4 tomorrow to make room for LR and DM2 :csad:. I hope you are right though. ;)

lol .. me 2 .. we'll see

Mmmhmmm just like Middle Earth movies are in December

Star Wars won't be released in 2015.

Yes it will or people are gonna be fired. Disney just paid 4b for star wars n they will milk it hard n fast until the end of time. Starting 2015 expect to see a star wars movie every year

im not one of those "people". i have been underestimating Lone Ranger pretty much from day one though. Guilty as charged.

Yup. From now on losing screens will be a big factor

FWIW .. on Rotten after 59 reviews, LR has 11 fresh & 48 rotten .. 19% .. ouch

I meant movies with release date after mos . Looks like fans who are wishing movies to fail so mos can make more money. All wishful thinking though.

Do not underestimate the huge international star power of Johnny Depp. I know the prospects for LR look pretty bleak right now, but I would not be shocked if audiences flock to it. :p

In relation to the Avengers, do you think Thor 2 will have the same bump Ironman 3 had when it hits? Do you think it will be as commercially successful as MOS? Where do you think the WW gross will sit compared to current MOS projection...would love to know your thoughts on this?

What if it is boring? Star power can not overcome a boring movie (e.g. After Earth).

Edit: Why bring Thor 2 up now? ^

neither would i .. in fact, i'd bet that % would go up a bit .. not something i'd see on the big screen though .. anyhow, hope it doesn't do too bad

RIght. Because of Johnny Depp it will likely do well at least on opening. Then if its as bad as after earth it will fall hard. But it would still have bitten a huge chunk into mos potential

Absolutely. Sometimes even a huge star cannot overcome a dreadful film. I am just saying that despite the bad reviews and poor tracking LR has, at least, one big advantage in Johnny Depp whose name alone can put people into theater seats. It could also be that the GA may enjoy LR more than critics have. We will just have to wait and see.

Why? I read article stating that they were going into production early 2014 with release aimed for 2015.

Depp's box office appeal has been waning a bit lately though. The Rum Diary flopped (and it deserved to; it was terrible) and Dark Shadows wasn't a big hit. Somehow The Tourist was a hit though, despite being one of the worst movies ever made. And that's not opinion. It's a FACT.

Anyway, one might think LR has a more broad appeal than those films, but Westerns have had a tough time at the box office over the past few decades.
