Man of Steel Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

Not at all not during the summer. I'm just saying its crazy to talk final box office takes before the first weekend and even than you can't really judge. I doubt anyone believed that it would go on to be the highest grossing film ever.

I believe $400 is a reasonable take for a reboot. And superman may be the greatest superhero but it's almost not cool to like superman lol

All people are talking is estimates, part of which the data is collected from pre-sales, looking at multipliers for similar films and looking at historical data. There are always surprises and that's what they are, surprises. This film might be the highest grossing of 2012, but if it was, it's a total surprise, there's no empirical data suggesting that it will be.

If the movie can break both $100 mill opening week and $400 mill total I think WB and DC will move with being more confident in say a WonderWoman or Flash/Martian ManHunter movie and I still think my hopes for an Aquaman movie are silly.

The midnight numbers should be very interesting.

Midnights have been screwed up ever sense the shooting. Of course they still do tell you something but I don't expect TDK, Iron Man 3, or The Avengers numbers. Basically I am agreeing with you though, it should be interesting.

I am standing by my $120 OW prediction. It surprises me that people think the audience is driven by RT ratings. Most people I know never visited the site.

However, I believe $700 WW is a good achievement for this movie and I'm sure WB would be happy with it. It handomsoly pays of their MOS investment and opens up to inumeours other possibilities.

I doubt they would be fast tracking MOS 2 if they didnt have inside info the movie is doing well.

I think she's talking about from the box office sites, which have lowered predictions to around 100-110M. People earlier were talking 130-150M, which seems a bit excessive for this time of year.

Flash is the only movie I can see doing well besides MOS and Batman on it's own from the JL. Any others should be in one of those 3 movies. Like Hawkeye and Black Widow.

the review threads are downright depressing.

Forget the reviews, man. You will love Man of Steel just go into it with the open mind that it is a reboot, it is an origin story, and it has freaking Superman kicking ass. Do not go in expecting it to be like marvel movies. Man of Steel can be compared to both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

I'm pretty much where you are at, I'm thinking 7.5 to 9mil. If it does like 10-13 that's a breakout right there.

I can see a WonderWoman movie doing better. With fanboys wanting a kick ass female superhero(at least I do) and their gfs benign able to have a hero to connect with it could make a hell of alot movie.

The critics might not like it but general movie goers and Comic book fans that have seen it have said they loved it. Thats all it takes a good word of mouth and boom people will flock to go and see this. With talk of great action this is where the Transformers viewers come into play.

Exactly. The $ is really what matters right now. Haha, I'd say this is transformers with heart and an actual story. I think RT score will improve though.

This movie could well be critic proof, certainly opening weekend probably will be. However I don't think WB wanted this thing to be so critically panned if they were trying to launch a "DC Cinematic Universe" with it.
