MAN! It sucks that we have to wait so long for anything new. I hope, HOPE, that maybe we could get a treat a few times in between now and then. I mean the movie is finished with principle right? Considering the Hobbit is coming out in Winter, I am sure that will be the debut of the trailer. Then we will have the Superbowl for a tv Spot. For obvious reasons I think Superman lends himself more to Football than most other heroes (Not that it matters but I think it will go over well). Then I would say the final trailer on Fast and Furious 6 maybe? It's one of the earlier big releases of next year that I can think of. I can't imagine they would throw it on Iron Man 3... Man of Steel in front of Iron Man... that'd be funny, heh.
As far as the old school Supes movies. I look at it like this. Now I have only recently fallen in love with the character. Between Action Comics run and the books I have been picking up, not to mention the comicon footage and two teasers and the fact that Dark Knight has ended, I have a new hero in my sights. I can say that growing up as a massive Bats fan.... the feelings for the old Supes movies are similar to the old Bat flicks. For what they are, what they did for the characters at the time, there is an appreciation and nostalgic value. Is it close to being the BEST representation? No. But I was a kid when Batman, Batman Returns and Batman Forever came out so at the time I thought they were great! They really entertained me, got my imagination running, gave me years of awesome Halloweens and tons of fun action figure adventures. Looking back as a 26 year old, yeah the movies aren't great if I am reviewing them for a movie review but that's also part of movies that I don't like. Movies are meant to entertain us first. As someone who is moderately intelligent and likes to think and figure things out on my own and not have it spoon fed, I prefer movies that give me something to think about... it is an extension of entertaining me. But they do have this power when I sit down to watch Jim Carrey in a tight green leotard or Jack Nicholson with make up on to remind me of being a kid.
So yeah I don't think it's fair to attack movies that have nostalgic value per say. There are far more variables. Much in the same way that there were movies as a kid I would watch with my Dad like Dances With Wolves or The Godfather and as a kid I had NO interest in them and was quite bored. Now they are some of my favorite movies. IT works both ways. Let alone that for the times the movies were made themselves... WE were less... mature, less evolved at the time. I don't think it is as simple as to dismiss and disregard those points.
