Its hilarious how people sh** on Superman Returns for feeling like a remake of Superman: The Movie yet want to Man of Steel a free pass despite being an obvious remake of Superman II.
How is mos a remake of superman 2?you think that bcuz they useing zod again.Do you think the dark knight was a remake of batman 1989 since it had joker in it?the joker in the dark night made 1989 joker look like a joke lol.The same thing will happen with this new zod!mos zod will make superman 2 zod look like the joke he already is.

Yeah; I have no idea as to why people think MOS comes off as a remake of SII.

Truth be told; if it had been executed differently, SR wouldn't have come off as a remake for S:TM either; I mean they had a strong enough premise to distance themselves with the concept of Superman having been gone for half a decade and returning to a world that's seemingly moved on without him.

The problem was that the concept never fully made it's way to the actual film, along with many other things.

MOS in itself as far as we've seen couldn't be any more different than SII; heck, given on how it's a origin story that only happens to have Zod as its main villain should say in itself that it's no copy version of SII.

Let's not knock Terence Stamp and the work he did in Superman II...I like both cuts of the film

I liked SR. But SR was not a remake of STM. I don't think that MOS will be a remake of Superman 2.

We do not have enough information at the moment to make such a claim.

damn i missed bearded supes on fire climbing out of skull and bones working as a crab fisherman traveling to alaska the last time i saw SMII and superman fighting an armored zod lol

I guess we'll have to petition Warner Bros. to release a new cut of the film- Superman II: The Missed Cut

As a big fan of SR, I have no shame in calling it what it is. A remake of STM, that is also a reboot and sequel.

I must have missed the part where people have actually seen this movie yet. How can you say it is a remake when IT HASN'T EVEN BEEN RELEASED YET.

I know remake is a dirty word to some, that if applied to something they hold dear, instantly stains it. And of course, we have no idea how this whole thing will play out. However, if you asked me, from what is known and the footage we have seen, I wouldn't be adverse to someone calling this a re-imagining or second attempt at Donner's original idea for STM and SMII.

This isn't like Batman '89 to Batman Begins. This is already looks more like Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man.

Thing is of course there's gonna be similarities its the same character its Superman your gonna get some bits that are the same/similar. Its not a remake of Superman II but its gonna have similarities.

I'd be almost certain there will be no similarities to Superman II except the characters and Superman fights Zod...

That was kinda my point there's always gonna be similarities with Superman and past incarnations cause its the same character.

Oh of course

Yeah but even with Bane there's similarities he's hulking huge he wears a mask. That's what I mean there are constants and with Superman you can tell by the Comic Con footage its the familiar story Jor El, etc but I'm not saying its the same of course it'l be different but there will always be similarities.

well yeah. the superman in MOS is also similar to the one from the 1950's. it's basically the same suit, same name, krypton, lois, etc etc.
Thats where it will end. I dont think you will see MOS use the exact same dialogue in some scenes like SR did with S:TM, and the plot won't be real estate/land grab centered again.
( unless you count Zod trying to takeover the world as a land grab :p )

Agreed, haha no let's not do that :p

He may say kneel too :p

I don't understand why when comparing material people like to say "well the dialogue isn't exactly the same and there not in the same exact place so it is different". STM and SMII were clearly envisioned as one story.

If the film has similar themes, ideas, plot points, etc. it is similar. If a young Clark is in the FoS talking to some version of Jor-El, learns from him, how is that not invoking STM? If Zod is his father and Krypton's enemy per-destruction, how is that not invoking STM/SMII, especially if Kal-El is forced to battle him and his new bestest female companion?

And the argument that "its Superman's origin" is lackluster to say the least. There are so many ways to tell that story without touching Zod.
