So I guess we have to ask ourselves, from what we know of MOS, does it objectively look to be a promising film or is our need for a new and great modern day Superman film, along with knowing who's involved with the project in terms of cast and crew blinding us from seeing it objectively? Hmmmmmm

Okay heres my idea on how Mos cld explain why no one recongnizes that Clark and Superman are the same-lets be honest the comic book reasons fall flat.My idea is that they cld say that the Alien nature of the suit causes to be so mesmerising to humans that they cant recongnise the face behind the suit.Simple sweet

That needs to be its biggest/primary goal. Any superhero movie isn't just competing within its own genre, but against all other big movies of all types for attention and popularity.

anyone else afraid that the movie lives up to all your expectations in terms of quality, however isnt a huge commercial success?

Yeah if that happens, no biggie. the world will get along just fine without more Superman or whoever's movies, and so will we. If there's at least one good one, then that's plenty.

I am, of course if it isn't a huge success but its an excellent film ill be happy we have a modern excellent Superman film but I want sequels so I really hope its a success. I'm actually a little worried what WBs expectations are for this would $600 mil be enough? $800 mil? I just think if they're expecting something like the Dark Knight money it probably won't happen with the first movie.

I'd rather that than the other way around personally.

Yeah, although even it it doesn't meet my hopes I would be happy if MOS is a huge financial success and puts Superman back in huge popularity. It seems Batman has long dethroned him.

Promethus wasnt exactly a prequel and it wasnt exactly worth all the hype so it doesnt really fit here.
Bryan Singer didnt make Xmen movies-he made Wolverine and Xmen movies. That should have been warning 1.Warning no 2 should have been that they actually thought it was a good idea to continue a dated franchise.A franchise with so much camp and corniness it would fail if released today. But of course Donner love blinds all.

It wasn't just Donnerlove, though I admit that was part of it. Folks were just happy it wasn't going to be Superman fighting polar bears, so Singer over that alternative seemed like a winner on all fronts. Plus, he did seem like a good choice because of his background with the X-Men. If you weren't that familiar with Singer's work outside of X-Men, which I and many others weren't, then he did seem like a good choice. Hindsight being twenty-twenty the signs were all there, but as fanboys and girls that stuff is easy to dismiss if you are hoping for something fantastic.

On a side note, look at all the blind Nolan love. It was the same exact thing with Singer. You have people that are absolutely certain MOS is going to be a winner just because Nolan is associated with it. I'm a bit more cautious....

I dunno. If dethroning Batman meant changing Superman's character/story so much that his fandom couldn't even get on board... would it be worth it?

Seems like a pointless victory.

I see what you mean, but if MOS was successful Superman wouldn't just thrive on the big screen. Even with severe changes to the story in MOS Superman being the top dog again could lead to Superman animated shows, more comic arcs, merchandise and more that may not follow anything from MOS at all but be there simply because Superman is doing really well again. I see Batman and Spiderman everywhere. Superman occasionally.

I think the simplest answer is the best answer. No one knows that Superman has a secret identity. They assume he is Superman all the time. No one would think to go looking for how this guy is hiding.

Example: Christian Bale. We all know he played Batman but when you think of him in a non Batman context you think of Christian Bale. He goes to the store as himself, to movies, to restaurants...all as Christian Bale. You have no reason to believe that he does anything outside of acting as anything other than himself. So if a new co worker comes to your job and looks like Christian Bale do you assume Christian Bale has a secret identity or the new guy in accounting looks like Christian Bale?

That's always been all it needs to be. If that wasn't enough, then I think there are more/bigger issues with presenting the premise altogether.

Yup, this has always been my reasoning too :)

Occam's Razor is not enough for some people, they need to keep chasing zebras.

But as Leaonardo said: "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication."

Chasing Zebras that sounds like the title of Norah Jones' album. :hmm

I have no idea of course, but I would hope they would be happy if it did 600/650 million W.W., especially with it following that last superman film.

That said, even if it only does around 500 mill W.W., but has the same reaction with the public that B.B. had, then it would still be a win because the hunger for a sequel(s) would be there.

Well, in that case, nope...

But WB did offer JL to Ben Affleck.

yeah I heard that...was it an offer or are they considering him?

It's apparently an offer, Deadline says he most likely won't take it.
