DCUO is a much more traditional MMORPG--which is a huge strike against it for me because I generally hate MMOs.

What? DCUO a traditional MMORPG? Are we playing the same game? DCUO is a action MMO, why do you consider it a traditional MMO?

Marvel Heroes: PAX Prime '13 Interview with David Brevik We had a chance to catch up with Gazillion CEO David Brevik at this year's PAX Prime to discuss all things Marvel Heroes. Read on for all the details! Update 1.2 will add Emma Frost, one of the previously announced ...

“Fear Itself”, a new Enhanced costume for Thing will be coming this week, too. While wearing the costume, Thing will adopt a molten lava look, while animated demons wrap around his body. He also gets a sweet new hammer to clobber his enemies with.
A couple of features previously announced as slated for 1.2 won’t quite make it in time for launch. X-Defense, a wave battle survival mode set in Xavier’s Mansion, won’t make it for 1.2, but should hit live servers about a week later. However, the competitive PvP mode Gazillion had planned may take a bit longer. The PvP mode should appear on test server sometime this week, but we’re unsure of when it will hit live servers at this point.


Gambit is being bumped up in priority, though he will come after Luke Cage, who is slated for the game’s next major update. And even Ghost Rider and Nightcrawler were mentioned as possible new heroes.We did learn a bit more about Luke Cage during our chat with David, though he wouldn’t spill the beans on the other guys. Cage will, obviously, feature a tree focused on his melee damage, including an ability that lets him punch the word “CAGE” into the ground. More interestingly, Cage will come with a Heroes for Hire tree that allows him to team up with the Heroes for Hire crew in battle. The first ally he’ll be able to call out is Iron Fist right at level one, so you’ll always have a partner-in-crime (heroism?) wherever you go. Currently, these companions will fight with you for a while and then disappear, but David tells us this has gone back-and-forth internally and they may be out with you permanently by the time Cage rolls around to live servers.

I was planning to save up for the Thor chase, but then they did away with the ability to buy chase costumes with Eternity Splinters.

Eh, it's no big deal. High-level Thor players seem to favor the Golden Armor or Destroyer chases anyway, so I'm actually kind of more unique running around with my Marvel NOW costume at level 49.

The enhanced should be the ones that are of more value. Like fear, it's self thing or pirate dead pool. But they're so few right now and there certain ones most players want made. ( I'm one of those for the dark phoenix Cyclopes to name a few, if it's ever done) And they have yet to create Alot.

It's as Nathan just mentioned though according to marvel via their marvel.com live streams that's always what XML and marvel Ultimate alliance were always inspired by which is why they chose it. Right now they've been working on improving it since its launch. It's some what decent and they're still improving on it right now.

On another slightly off topic but similar note, Gaz is doing very well with their other MMO of which they sorta did the same thing as playing with the heroes from marvel U themselves only in mini size. Since it's aimed more to kid's.

PRESTIGE SYSTEM

Players can now prove that they are the very best with Prestige Mode. After reaching the max level of 60, players have the option to restart at level 1 for the bragging rights of being a Prestige hero. Prestige heroes will be clearly visible to others with an exclusive color used in their name.
HERO SYNERGY SYSTEM

Each hero now unlocks account-wide synergy bonuses at levels 25 and 50 that can be equipped on any hero. Since every hero can equip up to ten synergy bonuses, including Hulk’s health bonus and Spider-Man’s increased chance to dodge, players now have access to more hero customization than ever before!
LEGENDARY QUESTS

Odin himself, All-Father of Asgard, is tasking heroes with new legendary quests! Completing these quests not only rewards the best experience in the game but also allows players to craft Legendary Blessings for their artifacts.
TEAM INSIGNIAS

Team Insignias are a dedicated item slot and are allowed to be worn by any hero who has been a member of the team in the past, including “honorary members." S.H.I.E.L.D. team insignias may be worn by any hero. Every insignia provides an aura and rarer versions are more powerful.

I hate leaving the game for a bit and then coming back. I switched over to GTA 5 for like 3 weeks, and when I come back to MH, there's like 50 new gameplay elements, none of which I know how to use, and heroes' powers have been tweaked once again. It's kind of crazy. But I'll get reacquainted with it eventually, I'm sure.

Sweet Christmas! Marvel Heroes patch 1.3 dropped recently and we've got the all the details straight from the mouth of creative director Jeff "Doomsaw" Donais.
Marvel Heroes: Sweet Christmas! It's Patch 1.3!

Team Insignias
Team Insignias are a new item type to Marvel Heroes. These insignias are themed to the various teams that characters in Marvel comics often align themselves with and heroes can only equip insignias for teams they have been a part of in the past. Each insignia grants a team aura and insignias of higher quality can grant anywhere from 1-2 additional aura affixes.
Each insignia is flavored to a specific member of its associated team. For example, there is a Professor X insignia for the X-Men that, in addition to its team aura, grants teammates a chance to summon Professor X (who will toss out massive psionic attacks) whenever they deal damage.




Looking Ahead
If you’re already playing Marvel Heroes, you probably already knew about all of the stuff we just went over. If you’ve managed to make it this far, we’ve got a bit of a reward for you with some exclusive new information Jeff shared with us during the call. Breakdown below!
Squirrel Girl

• Comes out in two weeks.
• Up to 250 squirrels out on screen at one time.
• Brawling tree.
• Squirrel summoning powers.
• Ultimate is called "Squirrelpocalypse" (something like 500 squirrels on screen).
• Arm squirrels with timed explosives that then go out and set booby trap for enemy waves.
• Launches with five unique items, including: Hazelnut Lipgloss, Iron Man Trading Cards (summons Iron Man to help her out), Great Lakes Avengers T-shirt (proc powers based on spirits of Great Lake Avengers).
• Squirrel Girl synergy grants +damage vs. bosses in accordance with her theme of taking out massively power Marvel characters in the comics.

Asgard Story Content

• Asgard content video will be shown at New York Comic-Con.
• Asgard will have tons of frost giants, dark elves, and even new enemies introduced by the upcoming Thor movie sequel.
• New Asgard super hub.
• Players will need to venture into Norway and overcome a currently unannounced encounter that will unlock passage through the Rainbow Bridge into Asgard.
• Asgard content will be free.
• Raids coming with Asgard content.

Upcoming Heroes and Costumes

• Silver Surfer on top 5 list of heroes to be worked on next.
• Legendary Quest sharing coming soon.
• Upcoming new item types include: Legendaries, Team-Ups, and StarkTech .
• Additional "gender bender" skins coming. Kate Bishop Hawkeye is being worked on as we speak.
• Additional 'Fear Itself' costumes coming. Full suite of 'Noir' costumes in the works as well (Punisher Noir, Spiderman Noir, Luke Cage Noir, etc).
• Thor 'Beta Ray Bill' enhanced costume launches with Asgard. Asgard Storm in the works.
• Gambit added 'way before' end of year. Needs voiceover and more visual FX work.
• Psylocke confirmed!

I'm breaking up my usual format a bit for this month. Part of that is just out of necessity; DC Universe Online launched a big DLC pack that I talked about in the last column, which obviously was the focus for most of the past month. Champions Online just had an invasion event going that I didn't actually take part in; I've had enough invasion-style events to last the remainder of my natural life, even if the rewards for this one do look pretty awesome. Call me cynical.

No, this month I'm focusing on two games, only one of which is actually out at the moment. One of these games has been firing on all cylinders and might force cynical old me to eat a bit of crow, which I'll happily do if it means that the game is better for everyone enjoying it. And the other... isn't. You can probably guess what I'm talking about, but you can also go ahead and jump past the cut to eliminate any possible doubt. I encourage it! Continue Reading
