Mass Effect 3 - Part 2

Also, It may have been slight hyperbole in subconscious response to the hyperbole already present, like

I feel like I just got disemboweled.

for instance. :P

A movie being based on the first game is wonderful.

Sovereign lives!!

Also, when it comes out, it will have been years after we had any new Mass Effect games (Assuming 3 is indeed the end of the trilogy) so the fact that they are doing the first game's story seems awesome to me, it will bring back so many great memories whilst feeling completely new.

The actual games developers have full creative control over their film franchise... That hasn't happened yet.

I have my doubts about that, they can talk a good game sure but I really doubt Legendary is going to give them potentially over a hundred million and then leave the film in the hands of game developers and a so-so script writer.

I just don't see that because I've heard so much talk in the past about how game-movie productions were working closely with the developers and for it to be no more than lip service.

Yeah they're just exec producers. I'm still hoping it gets made but Hollywood usually clashes with this kind of thing.

Anyways I've played through Mass Effect at least once a year since it came out so having to see a chopped up version of it... fuggit, I ain't getting into it again lmao.

Was hoping for the movie to be about something else, but I'm fine with them going with the first game. I hope it turns out well.

It sucks that they didn't reveal anything concerning the director or the cast.

But this ISN'T like other movie productions... Do you not remember the interview Hudson did like a year ago, when the ME movie was first announced, that the condition of Legendary having the license was that Hudson and Bioware had creative control. They have a say in choosing the director, in major story decisions, in casting, all that stuff.

It's most likely what inspired Ubisoft to do exactly the same thing, with the way they have structured their film license... So they can have creative control.

It's not like Prince of Persia, or Resident Evil, where the game creators are glorified 'acknowledgements'... This is different, hence why I'm optimistic. No one has approached game-to-film adaptations like this yet, it's been largely film makers trying to emulate the game, rather than the actual game developers expanding into a new medium.

I've tried to find it but no I don't remember Hudson ever saying that there was such a condition, even so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that if that is indeed the case I'm even more inclined to believe this movie will never get out of pre-production.

I'll find the link, I remember it because it broke on the morning I was on a comic and film podcast and we talked extensively about the whole thing.

Ah, reminds me of the optimism for Resident Evil when it was said Capcom would be 'involved in some capacity' with the film. Oh, how things never really change.

But, anyway, not a surprising move on the movie or anything, but I definitely became a lot less interested in the project. Will probably skip out on it in that case and wait for a home video release if it actually happens.

I actually didn't mind Romero's original script for RE. Sure.. it was quite different from the game (Chris wasn't in S.T.A.R.S) but it was REALLY darn close to it... more close to the movies then anything we've got so far.

"There's an event at 6PM Saturday at the #BioWare base at Comic-Con that will be awesome for all #FemShep fans! Thanks to @HollyConrad"

I'm wondering if that means that they're going to unveil the new FemShep, maybe even in conjunction with that FemShep trailer they were supposedly putting together.

I think too many people were misguided in they're expectations for Prince of Persia and...well, every Resident Evil movie. I'm a fan of Prince of Persia, and the movie was actually pretty good. It just turns out that not everyone else likes the story that game had to tell. They probably liked the gameplay and combat more than the story, and didn't even realize it.

I don't exactly know what everyone wanted out of them, because they weren't exactly blasphemous towards the sources.

I feel better towards Mass Effect, because the source material has a better, deeper, richer, and much, much more detailed writing.

I never played the Prince games, but I thought the movie was enjoyable. I do think the ME movie will turn out better though.

hahah wasn't Chris an indian tracker?

Either ways with some character re-writes that script would have been fantastic.

That was actually what I didn't like about the movie, I thought the Sands of Time game had a much better story. I quite liked Jake Gyllenhall in that though.

Yes, he used his Native American Powers to sneak into the mansion.

I agree, it wasn't a perfect script AT all but it was better then what we got. I mean, if the studio wanted Melia (I dunno? I assume it's due to Anderson directing and not so much the studio) she could have played Jill. The script COULD have been the best video game movie ever if it had some rewrites. Thing is it was CAPCOM that said no to it... I remember reading (in GamePro I think..?) that Capcom said the script felt TO much like the first game.

Just thinking about what that could have been with some of Savini's zombie makeup and effects?

*siiiiigh*

Mass Effect 3 will be the end of the trilogy, yes (kind of obvious, since a trilogy is three, and, well, there's a numeral three right there in the title), but not the end of the franchise, from what we've been told.

So the movie will not necessarily come out years after we've seen anything new for Mass Effect.

I know the 360 and MMO's don't mix... but I still wouldn't be shocked if the 360's first TRUE MMO (maybe the next console) is a Mass Effect Universe type of deal.

Yes, I know that, but I was referring more to Shepards story, since the movie will be telling that story.
