A couple of the tweets coming from one of the Bioware writers continues to feed into my suspicions that Jack is going to be a perm. squadmate.

Good. I would be disappointed if she wasn't.

I thought Jack was one of the better-written companions in ME2, and that she got kind of a bad rap from a lot of fans because of her abrasiveness. I'd love to see her return as a permanent squadmate in ME3, though I hope she's a bit more useful in combat this time. t:

I don't think we have to fret on Miranda. It's a numbers game now, and with all the squaddies who have been confirmed as temporary or not back at all, it makes for some very easy speculation that we'll more than likely have Miranda back.

Ashley/Kaidan, Liara, Garrus, Tali are all for sure. Jack is very likely. So that's five.

We know Wrex will not be back. That's it for ME1. We know Legion, Mordin, Jacob, Kasumi, and Zaeed will not be back as permanent members in ME3, and I believe Thane has been confirmed as not returning as well. That leaves Grunt, Miranda, and Samara/Morinth. The likelihood of the latter being back is right up there with Thane.

So five from above are back, including Jack. Include the new guy. Include Miranda and Grunt. That's eight. Isn't that about the magic number they've been talking about?

We haven't had any true squadmate number other than it won't be as much as ME2's dozen so we could be looking at anything from 7-9 in total and there have been comments that we might be getting at least 1 more new squadmate in addition to Vega so that could possibly throw a wrench in the Jack-Grunt-Miranda trio if the squad size is indeed 8, not to mention whoever the CE squadmate turns out to be and whether that's a new character or a returning one is nebulous.

I think we're going to get Miranda or Thane but not both and you could make decent arguments about why either one may not be a squadmate.

Ugh... I don't like Jack, not a big fan of the decision to bring her back as a permanent member. I think Grunt is guaranteed though (Yay!) since Wrex isn't returning & Shepard is Grunt's battlemaster. I'd like Thane to return, especially if there's a side mission where we can try & cure his illness. Or atleast we can see him sacrifice himself for the team since he knows his life is coming to an end.

The Collector's Edition has its own squad mate?

Maybe. The ad for the Collector's Edition mentions that it has a downloadable mission and "character". I assume that means squadmate, but who knows?

An additional character being included with the CE does seem to have become standard practice for BioWare, so I wouldn't be surprised if they did it for ME3.

Wait...Wrex won't be in ME3... At all? I thought that was his voice (not Grunts) over Shepard's comm unit in the gameplay parts we seen at E3.

I think he just meant that Wrex isn't returning as a squad mate.

Yes, that's what I meant, considering I was speaking about squadmates.

I believe it's confirmed we will be getting a DLC character, but that's nothing new. And I doubt they'll count the character against us for purposes of returning squadmates, as it would be a very weak and very poor decision from any perspective. Rather, they'll just be there - like Shale, Zaeed, and Sebastian before them.

I used to hate Zaeed... but putting him in my party and just talking to him proves to me that I was totally wrong about him. I'm glad he's returning and I look forward to a more fleshed out character.

My first ME2 playthough was Zaeed-less. That was a dark time.

Indeed. There were several characters that I didn't pay much attention to in my first play through. Jack, Grunt, Zaeed. But now I love them.

I don't hate her enough to let her die. But this reminds me, that happens if you let a squadmate die in ME2 who returns? Are you screwed out of a teammate if that happens. I plan for my final ME2 playthrough to have everyone live, but it's an interesting thought. I just have to work on making Legion live, he was the only one who died on my first playthrough.

I have an ME2 run through where only Miranda and Jacob survived. I am very interested in seeing how that will affect ME3.

Oen of the reasons I love Mass Effect is how futuristic it is with a touch of realism. Imagine if this happens some day?

hahah yea, that's at the top of my list. I really wish I was born in a time where being in space was something standard but whatevs, at least with the help of my xbox I get to travel to a dimension where it's possible.

Space travel may be cool in games... but I often go back to what Peter Venkman once said about aliens...

And that is the whole problem with aliens; is you just can’t trust them. Occasionally you meet a nice one; Starman, E.T., but usually they turn out to be some kind of big lizard!
