MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 4

The end makes sense.

At the end, if some s' went down, the only ones available would be Iron Man, Vision and Spider-Man?

Steve may have "given up" being Captain America, but he still realizes that he has an obligation to the Avengers and Tony which is why he left a way to contact him.

I agree. Him sending the letter doesnt mean Tony has forgiven him. I doubt they'll gloss over it in the next Avengers film. Too much of a big plot point to just forget.

So many of the complaints I read on these boards in particular are reductive, intellectually dishonest, and clearly rooted in pettiness. Often times these posters will be intelligent and rational with incredibly sharp critical faculties, but completely turn those off when discussing their preferred films. It's fanboy jealousy instead of an honest discussion.

Yes. And the one that pissed me off the most is the 'jokes, or fun' one. That has nothing to do with how good a movie is.

I had no problem with the message at all. Cap and Stark didn't want to fight. They do like each other and know that the other is doing what they think is right. They fight because they are both set in their views and things have progressed globally such that they are forced to take sides. Plus Tony has a personal grudge against Cap's best friend.

It makes the ending that much sadder, in that they don't hate each other but feel compelled to fight each other anyways. And yes, both are willing to put aside their differences temporarily to fight a bigger threat (such as an alien invasion), but it doesn't mean their relationship is or possibly ever will be the same as it was prior to Civil War.

It is a lot like the division between Professor X and Magneto.

Spidey might have homework.

So I made an Ultron voice test. Was wondering if I can get some feedback. Obviously its not James Spader Ultron, but I mean as far as fanmade voices go its pretty good right?

You also gotta remember they already put their differences aside to stop Zemo. Their fight at the end was just pure emotion and anger from Tony having seen the video of his parent being murder. He was just pissed, and it's possible that with time and reflection he could forgive Bucky on some level and move on. But in that moment realizing how his mother died, as Tony put it himself, He just didn't care.

It was more of a heat of the moment situation than anything else. Plus you see in that final scene he condones Steve getting away, breaking the rest out, and having a way to contact him in he needs to.

UPDATE.
Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is an American media franchise and shared fictional universe that is centered on a series of superhero films, independently produced by Marvel Studios and based on characters that appear in publications by Marvel Comics. The franchise has expanded to include comic books, short films, and television series. The shared universe, much like the original Marvel Universe in comic books, was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters. Clark Gregg has appeared the most in the franchise, portraying Phil Coulson, a character original to the MCU.

The first film released in the MCU was Iron Man (2008), which began the first phase of films culminating in the crossover film Marvel's The Avengers (2012). Phase Two began with Iron Man 3 (2013), and concluded with Ant-Man (2015). The films are currently in Phase Three, which began with the release of Captain America: Civil War (2016). Marvel Television expanded the universe further, first to network television with Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC in the 2013–14 television season, followed by online streaming with Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix in 2015, and then to cable television with Marvel's Cloak and Dagger, which is scheduled to air in 2017 on Freeform. The MCU also includes tie-in comics published by Marvel Comics, while Marvel Studios has also produced a series of direct-to-video short films and a viral marketing campaign for its films and the universe with the faux news program WHIH Newsfront.

The franchise has been seen as an impressive and groundbreaking success in terms of a multimedia shared universe, though critics have found that some of its films and television series have suffered in service of the wider universe. It has inspired other film and television studios with comic book character adaptation rights to attempt to create similar shared universes. The MCU has also been the focus of other media, outside of the shared universe, including attractions at Disneyland and Discovery Times Square, two television specials, guidebooks for each film, a Lego video game, and a commercial with Coca-Cola.

Well the MCU has always had a wikipedia page. But I guess that's nice regardless. :)

Yeah, I've been reading the wiki page for years.

Bryan Cranston was in the CA: Civil War art book

So was his likeness used for a particular character they cut out of the movie you think?

He said as far as he knew it was because it wasn't with Fox or Sony. Marvel has had the production rights for a long time, but the distribution rights are with Universal. I'm surprised how widely his comments are being reported.

Not with Fox nor with Sony. But he forgot about Universal.

I don't know if the situation is any different from when Feige spoke about it before.

Good, I agree with Black. Glad to know he realizes the haters are the exception, not the rule.

For me at least, I think the twist would've worked better had they done a better job of addressing whether or not the Mandarin was actually a real character. Either allude that there was a still a real guy somewhere like that, which they obviously wound up doing later on, or just gone full steam ahead and establish that Killian was the MCU version.

They. . . kind of did. They had Killian scream at the top of his lungs "I am the Mandarin!"

The problem with that was not that it was revealed Ben Kingsley wasn't playing the Mandarin. It was that Ben Kingsley wasn't playing the Mandarin AND the real villain was really dull and disappointing and much worse than Kingsley's Mandarin had been set up to be. If the real villain had been more interesting and a better character it would have been great. If they played it straight and had Kingsley as the real Mandarin that would also have been fine.

Honestly that line always felt kind of tacked on to me and didn't really address anything beyond Killian being behind the whole conspiracy.

I think they should've tried to have tied him in to the small bit of set-up Favreau did for the Mandarin IM1 & 2.

Yeah, I saw the CBM link. They're speculating Firestar, which is what immediately came to me. No idea who owns those rights. I think of her as part of Spider-Man's Amazing Friends (so Sony), but she's got strong connections to the X-Men.

Couldnt find the Fantastic Four thread, but if they decide to cast Michael Fassbender in the MCU, I think he would be a great Dr. Doom
