MCU: The Marvel Cinematic Universe Official Discussion - Part 5

That is one, but this doesn't mean we're getting new Thor, Cap, Iron Man, etc. Plus, Hawkeye has been exactly no one's favorite Avenger anyway, so this is not a replacement anyone would care about. He's never headlined a movie or anything.

Ironheart, Captain Falcon America, Ms. Marvel.

The young actress on the Amazon show 'Hannah' would be a good choice

I know but this is a good sign of Marvel being open to the idea. I hope Bucky or Falcon do become the next Cap. We get She-Hulk and maybe Riri Williams or Iron Lad to fill that gap. Thor probably won't die because of Taika

You know my opinion on legacy Cap and such, LOL! I do want to note, as per my comment prior on these not getting the same love/care, this is going to be a Disney+ show in which this change occurs. Not a movie. So I think my point on there still stands. Legacy Cap, regardless if it is Falcon or Bucky, would get the same treatment. Aka, not being treated as important as Steve, which makes their reign as Cap mean less overall.

Nice to see we're getting our first MCU legacy (not including Scott Lang, Hope Van Dyne and Carol Danvers)! If Kate is a success I am sure there will be many more to follow.

It seems to me like marvel might go in the 'live action young justice' direction with avengers. That would be incredibly smart.

Kevin Feige has made it clear that, unlike the out-of-continuity Netflix shows, the Disney Plus programs are within MCU proper. And unlike Charlie Cox's Daredevil (R.I.P), Ms. Bishop has an excellent chance of appearing in future MCU films as the new Hawkeye.

Legacy phobic fans should brace themselves. Kate won't be the last one.

Them not getting the same love/care has nothing to do with it being "MCU Proper" or not. I know it will be "MCU proper." But these shows, while I am sure will look great for shows, are still shows. They will not get the 200+ mil budgets their film counterparts get, and thus won't get the same level of care.

Oh right. I haven’t heard of that. What kind of show is it? Also how old is she/does she look?
it's almost like a version/twist on Mowgli. She plays a girl who grew up in the woods who has to uncover who she is and where she came from. I saw the first episode and she was really good.

She's 19 and she actually sort of favors Jeremy Renner

He's one of my favorite Avengers

So, you're ok with legacy characters, only if Marvel Studios makes it clear through their budgeting that these are inferior knock offs of the originals? Bucky-Cap or Fal-Cap (or my fav Elijah Bradley) are fine so long as they are restricted to the small screen? That doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

Kate will become the movies Hawkeye. Feige said that events that happen in Disney+ will affect the movies. So this show is probably her origin story that might lead into Young Avengers.

Bucky/Falcon becoming Cap in their show will affect the movies too

The point is not them showing up in a team-up movie down the road. I am sure she will. The point is this show itself is not a movie. So, Kate Bishop is not being selected to headline a potential billion dollar film franchise. That is my point.

You so missed my point. That's the complete opposite of my argument. My point is if Captain America is a film franchise, which it is, then taking Falcon Cap and making him the star of a show is a downgrade to the Captain America IP. Therefore, Steve Rogers, the star of actual films and was selected to go out and gross Marvel billions and thus they put some of the best minds behind it, will look superior to the guy who is on a show that is made for less money and is not getting that type of return to the company, and thus not that level of focus. Thus, Falcon is living in Steve's shadow and not being treated as an equal. If you want a true legacy character, it should be a 1 for 1 trade. Falcon Cap should be starring in a movie, not a show. Otherwise, again, it devalues what it means to be, in this example, Captain America. That is my point. Same applies for Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, etc. Hawkeye works here because he was a side character that never got a movie, so Kate is actually trading up relative to where Clint was. But a guy like Falcon will be trading down (if that's the route they go).

To put it more easily, if my example of Falcon not headlining a Captain America movie and is only getting a show instead, he's basically just Falcon in a red, white, and blue costume. Because he is not being given the same level of respect. That's an unfair shadow to put him in.

The devaluation of the Captain America IP sounds like a problem for Feige to worry about. Personally, I am not concerned if some of the legacies end up on the small screen. Some folks were concerned about Daredevil being downgraded to TV, but that turned out ok. If Kate is on a great Disney Plus shows that would be great. Same thing for the next Cap, Thor and Iron Man.

If the show’s a success, since these are ACTUAL MCU productions, there’s nothing saying Kate couldn’t make the jump to the movies, too.

Thanks for that. I need to watch this.

Being Hawkeye is one thing, but being Iron Man or Captain America means more. That should mean a seat at the head of the MCU table because those mantle have greater significance. You're not doing that on a Disney+ show, and that is something I do think matters. If you're making that type of transition, embrace it and go full tilt. Don't devalue the IP. Which is what I think the end result would be here with a Falcon Cap or a Bucky. Riri would have a better shot given she has not appeared in anything prior, so there isn't a stigma of being a "sidekick" going in.

Not saying she wouldn't. But I don't see Kate getting a movie as a headliner. She's more likely going to be a side character in something like Young Avengers or something. We're not likely to get Kate Bishop headlining a summer blockbuster "Hawkeye" movie. For someone like Kate, that isn't an issue for me. But when you're talking about a new Captain America or Iron Man, I do think that matters.

Oh I agree with you there. But personally, I don’t want to see BuckyCap or FalconCap at all, lol.

Feige literally said characters from Disney+ will show up in the movies

I am not a fan of the idea either, LOL! Probably the number 1 reason I actually am crossing my fingers Cap survives :hehe:

That's not what I am arguing. There is a difference between being in a movie and being the star of the movie. Between being Iron Man and being War Machine.I am saying these people getting shows won't star in a movie.

Sigh... if somebody becomes Captain America in the show, it's going to follow through in the movie. Feige can't get more direct than "characters and events that happen in the show will happen/affect the movies"
