Ms. Marvel in the works? - Part 1

My only problem with calling her "Captain" Marvel is,if she does indeed make it to an Avengers film,we'll have two Captains on the team.

Stark: "Hey,Cap."

Steve & Carol "Yeah?"

Stark: "Nevermind"

I don't mind the idea of Captain Marvel. But I still really like the name Ms. Marvel. Especially since their already was Mar-Vell(who I would also like to see in the MCU), but Mar-Vell can easily led in to why she names herself Captain Marvel. The Captain idea I can see working, but for her to be on the team(Avengers) and be next to Captain America and both be "captains" is kinda odd to me.

I mean... why can't they have a scene just like that and get it out of the way? It's not like their names come up often, y'know?

They could, and then to make things easier, people might just start informally referring to her as Ms Marvel.

BTW there are people in real life with the last name Marvel. In fact, there was an actress who used to play in the District called Elizabeth Marvel. I'm sure people would've referred to her as Ms Marvel at times.

People don't call people "Ms." anymore, and certainly not informally. It's a very formal aloof title, not suitable for coworkers or friends. And putting it with a codename is even more odd, like calling Cap "Mr. America" in order to clear up confusion. The only way 'Ms. Marvel' sounds natural is as a jibe coming most likely from Tony... and having that stick would be a bit of an injustice, I think.

One way to follow up the Tony Stark eye roll and put the issue to bed:

STEVE ROGERS: We always had multiple Captains in our division, and no one ever got confused... how about you, Major, did you ever get confused with multiple Captains?
CAROL DANVERS: No, Captain, I did not.
STEVE ROGERS: Me neither.

In the comics, wasn't Steve just a Private? I don't remember if he was promoted to the rank of Captain or not. I know he was in the film, and hence why they called him Captain Rogers for most of the movie. If Carol is Captain as well, then that would help so that if they refer to her as that, it is actually her rank. Otherwise they're going to be calling her Major, and people might wonder why she's not Major Marvel.

That's a good point. I guess she has to be a Captain in the Air Force as well... hmmm.

As for the whole Ms. Marvel vs. Captain Marvel thing that should be a key element of the characters development. Carol Danvers started off as a sidekick-esqe associate of Captain Mar-vel. After he dies she comes into her own. Maybe if they made a movie about her she would be Ms. Marvel while she was solo, and becomes Captain Marvel upon joining the avengers.

^ I like this idea. It pays tribute to bothe sets of whiners and still gives the impression that she has payed her dues and has evolved from one movie to the next.

Hmmm...

I don't know about having them both be operating as supers at the same time... what's the origin of her powers then? And doesn't that detract from Captain Mar-Vell's brief time in the spotlight? She's already got being a normal human vs being a superhero as a key part of her development... it's hard to make being a junior superhero vs being a sr superhero a key element in the same film.

I want this scene or something like it in the film -

STARK: "Welcome aboard, Ms. Marvel."
CAROL: "Captain Marvel."
STARK: "Nope sorry, we already got a Captain, you'll just have to settle for being Ms. Or Marv."
CAROL [to Steve]: "Is he always like this?"
STEVE: "You'll get used to him. Eventually."

I don't think it's entertaining for Tony to be insulting when it's not funny or returned, but the word Ms. actually works there, as Tony doesn't know her at all.

I don't think she should ever call herself Ms. Marvel. Something the media comes up with and it sticks.

I think it might be cool that instead of calling herself Captain Marvel she is actually calling herself the Kree translation "Mar-Vell" and the media and SHIELD and Avengers call her Marvel. And Maybe she tries to correct them a few times, but not make it a running joke. Just an explanation why she calls herself Marvel. And why would she call herself the same name as Mar-Vell in the 1st place? I get to honor him, but in a 2 hour movie it might come across as a little odd that she calls herself the name of her dead friend. So they might need a scene to explain why. Like maybe Mar-Vell tells her the Kree honor their fallen heroes by taking their name to sort of continue their memory. Or maybe the media is interviewing her and asks her her name and she says Captain Mar-Vell saved the day meaning Mar-Vell and not her and the name sticks like she was talking about herself in the 3rd person. Because Thor's name is Thor. The media calls Tony Iron Man and he likes it, Steve is Captain America as a promotional tool like Uncle Sam or Yankee Doodle or something. And the name sticks because he saves soldiers and becomes a symbol. Hawkeye is code named but they really just call him the Hawk in the Avengers. I don't remember ever hearing anyone call her Black Widow in the Avengers at all. So how should Carol get the name Captain Marvel? Should they just call her Carol most of the time since she probably wont have a mask? Or should it be a scene like the Avengers are asking her her codename for their records so they never use her real name and she picks Captain Mar-Vell to honor Mar-Vell and they write down her name as Captain Marvel?

I Think once Zero Dark Thirty Releases, Many will agree...

Jessica Chastain for Ms. Marvel... I Mean Captain Marvel

Please watch this Hawking Bird then you tell me, Jessica Chastain isn't perfect for Ms Marvel!

Just imagine, it's a scene between her and Tony, and they talking about going after MODOK or some ***** as opposed to Bin Laden in the clip...

Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but why do we call her Captain Marvel at all? Isn't that kind of odd, seeing as her rank is major?
