I know. Same reason I like Cavill Superman.

When he says "No one stays good" on the balcony, oh man did my eyes hurt from resisting the urge to tear up.

Saw this. :lmao:

After watching this movie three times I actually understood Batman's actions during that fight perfectly. He was just like "wtf..." and when Doomsday does go after him he does a damn ****ing great job at avoiding his ass.

Bravo Bat.

That was a great scene. He seemed so freaking sad and upset at the whole situation. It was very earnest.

You know, I had this thought last night and it's stayed with me till this morning.

I like Cavill's Superman. He's not my old Superman, but he's a kindred spirit. He has the same intentions but man does he have it harder.

Last night's viewing I found myself crying in a lot more moments just because I felt quite deeply emotionally connected to him.

I might even go back and see if this new found affinity for this character changes my ability to enjoy MOS.

I've liked Cavill since my first viewing of Man of Steel. I also like New52 Superman as much as I like Classic Supes and all his countless of interpretations by writers over the years in the mainline DCU.

I don't get why people had such a negative reaction to the first few issues of the New52, he was characterized like Golden Age Superman and in his early days - growing into the hero we know. He's doing the same thing in these films. All the same character, but different experiences.

Man of Steel, BvS, and Justice League are an origin story for Superman which doesn't involve him just putting a suit on once, skipping six months later, and he's suddenly an expert, like previous superhero film franchises (Batman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, etc.) This makes his struggle much more interesting to watch and allows conflicts that arise in his early days to develop and come back to face him later on down the road, in solo films or team films. This allows much more story potential and doesn't cause the series to devolve into "villain-of-the-week" type stories as soon as the second installment. BvS was mainly a story about Superman battling his public perception, not Batman or Lex. JL might be Superman finally coming into his own as the inspirational figure we know him as and leading a team to save the Earth.

Clark is troubled in MoS and BvS, yes, but there's very little about him that's inherently un-Superman. They just go through the same problems at different stages in life. When he says "nobody stays good in this world forever", he's not brooding or mopey, it's the same thing as you or me getting frustrated and saying "life sucks sometimes." People exaggerate the smallest of things - like Cavill's Superman "not smiling", yet he smiles constantly in the films. He, his family, Lois, and their scenes at the Planet are the beacons of hope and brightness in troubled times. There was nothing more Superman than [BLACKOUT]"THIS is my world. YOU'RE my world."[/BLACKOUT]

To me, this will always be the same guy as the one we've had for the last 75 years.

I will say,[BLACKOUT] Snyder better BACK THE HELL OFF OF SHOWING SUPERMAN RETURN in the JLP1 trailers. He must NOT show that moment.[/BLACKOUT] For this reason, I might stay away COMPLETELY.
OMG If they spoil that moment in any trailers I'd be so enraged! :cmad: That's just inconceivable.

I wonder if Batman will have Superman's suit that he was wearing when he died, maybe he'll repair it (and make some adjustments). Infact it'd be cool if he kept that one in a case like the Robin one. Then when he returns they could do a cool thing where the suits missing and the glass case has been smashed.
You have some cool idea there. Why hadn't I thought of that. Considering he's still keeping Robin's suit it wouldn't be illogical for him to do the same with Superman's suit.

I have to say some stuff and get it off my chest.
I just want to conclude by giving a huge THANK YOU to all the positive people in this thread for sharing their viewpoints and for sharing these articles since they have breathed new life into my experience with this movie and have helped me go from bitter and unsatisfied to hopeful and elated.

Just like Superman would want me to be. :)

PS: If you read all that, then I really appreciate it. I just needed to share what I'm feeling and there's not many people who would understand besides you guys.
Yup. I read all that. Thanks for sharing.:gngl:

They will. Maybe not the how, but that he's back, they absolutely will. Why wouldn't they? The marketing for BvS was extremely effective and since it's barely a spoiler anyway (considering they made it clear at the end of BvS that he's still alive), why wouldn't they use it to draw attention?

Yeah. He led Doomsday to the spear, and fired the last kryptonite grenade when it counted. So he did help out. Just having a little giggle with that meme. :hehe:

It's a big different between spoiling the fact that he's returning and showing the moment of his return. It's taking away that "hell yeah!" moment. I wish WB marketing team are bright enough to realise this.

Oh how I wish they hadn't shown the WW arrival moment and the trinity shot in the trailer. Keep your highlights exclusively for they paying audience can do wonder.

Ah man, I can't wait to see it again with these new insights.

Yes, I'm already missing it. I want to watch it again this weekend. With all these insights taken into account. The film is a flawed masterpiece.

I really think the Ultimate Cut will change a lot of opinions. By the time it comes out people will have forgotten things they liked or disliked, and can maybe enjoy it without any preconceptions of what they think it should be.

As a person who loves the Extended Editions of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, I'm torn as to whether I want to watch the Extended Cut of BvS because I'm not entirely sure it even needs to exist given how I feel about BvS currently (in a nutshell, "The Dark Knight"-esque and, overall, a great "launching point" for a wider shared universe as-is).

Nobody will take the theatrical cut from you. ) I dislike EE of LOTR, Terminator 2, but I like EE of Aliens, Blade Runner. So let's wait and see if it's better or worse. Different beginning of the film, extended Knightmare, extrended battle with DD and I have no idea what subplot they edited out with Jena Malone.

I'm not judging; I'm just saying that at this stage I don't know if I'll end up watching the Extended Cut because it seems kind of frivolous.

My weekend plans to see it again and have DC Sat have fallen apart (plus wife's cancelled trip to her Mum's). So seeing it for third time Sat after now.

This was... interesting. I see a lot more reading too much into this movie, I doubt they put THAT much thought into every single tiny detail in order to turn it into a metaphor, but it's interesting seeing what people read in this (or any) movie.

I do take issue with the very first post, though, because it's demonstrably wrong. Superman was Moses, not Jesus. He only became Jesus in the 1978 movie and since.

Which makes BvS all the better for it, because it approaches the same theme from the exact opposite direction. In STM/SII, Superman is a god with human sensibilities. His character arc is that of a god that rises and falls and then rises again (through both movies). In BvS, he's a man that touches the divine and rejects it. He rises, falls and rises again as a man. It's relevant to our modern sensibilities, but it's also a deconstruction not of the character, but of his audience who've had this conception of him for years (not in small part due to these older movies).

It's also why MoS screwed up a lot with its Jesus metaphors, because it was doing the same thing STM and SII were doing, just a lot worse.

You don't like Terminator 2?!
I love Terminator 2 with passion, but only theatrical cut, which James Cameron considers "director's", I just deeply dislike extended or ultimate cut of that film.

Ah okay then, you had me worried for a second.

Snyder can be insanely unsubtle at times and people can laugh about it, but he has moments of pure brilliance. Horse theme, as a parallel to Bruce's perception of Superman. Martha the giant bat, who gave birth to Batman. Superman as a father figure to Bruce... I'm blown away.

This is the first comic book film that got me like Evangelion. Funny enough, both deal with religion themes, and I'm an atheist.

So am I, which is why I favour the themes in BvS over those in STM/SII. The approach here is about society's perception of the divine, which is interesting and timeless, regardless of one's religious affiliations and philosophical positions.

I saw BvS 3 days ago, and there was so much to absorb from the film that I'm only now remembering some of the key things I loved in certain scenes.

  • The Batmobile's agility, and what it can do. Bursting out of a boat, or hooking onto a car and towing it behind it like it weighed nothing.
  • Batman's initial weapons used in the fight against Superman - the sonic weapons (a nod to TDKR) particularly.
  • The Batcave and it's sophisticated computer systems
  • Kevin Costner returning as Pa Kent. Had no idea he'd be in this.
  • Clark listening in on Bruce & Alfred's earpiece conversation at the party
  • The cops entering the building and Batman sitting high in the ceiling corner in darkness

.. and much more. Need to go see it again.

I did love seeing Clark listening on Bruce/Alfred.

Would you not watch it just to see though?
