PS: If you read all that, then I really appreciate it. I just needed to share what I'm feeling and there's not many people who would understand besides you guys.

I read your entire post and Im glad I did. My experience with this film was nearly identical to yours.

Me and my brother both. My brother was actually angry when leaving the theater. He said he was done with DC etc etc

But the drive home took about an hour and we talked about the film, things we didnt like (mostly) and things we liked.

Like you it seemed I was just so fixated on the bad/unexpected changes I could not for the life of me allow myself to see the numerous things the film did well. At first I could not see past the lack of characterization Wonder Woman received. How they wasted Mercy Graves, how little Superman got to do, how brutal Batman was, the lex-corp bullet subplot which continually derails the narrative, etc etc

So we slept on it and the next day I talked to my brother and said "you know, I kind of want to see that movie again." We both smiled and thats the moment I knew we both had started to look beyond what we expected of the film and started to appreciate what we got.

Quick example: I thought the Aquaman cameo would be him riding in on a 200 foot tall tidal wave. So how do you think I felt when I saw the cameo we got? Thats an example of expectations that got way out of control.

With Zack Snyder changing so much the reaction most people had with the film really should have been expected

I honestly think this is the reason for the level of intensity that people have with this movie. Sure, some of the pacing is a bit annoying, there might be a couple of lines that don't land that well and whatever other gripes people usually have with movies. But mostly, I think it was a massive system shock, and I think it does a lot of stuff visually and in the narrative that people didn't expect or aren't used to.

Just came out of my 4th viewing with a group of work mates,

Loved it more again :) Just something about going and seeing it with people you know don't have those preconceptions makes it easier to just enjoy the film without them as well.

This split is also interesting to me. Like you, I'm not the GA, I'm a fan. Superman is extremely important to me and has been, as a fantasy, as a hero, as a behavioral and moral archetype and example since I was a child.

But the Superman you saw in this movie isn't the Superman I saw. I saw a Superman that's pretty much there, but the movie makes a point to show him in his 'bad days', so to speak. I blame the film itself, because it cuts away a lot from Superman to stuff everything else in its run-time. But I honestly don't see anything in this Superman that I don't fully expect to see in any other Superman, given the right framework/context.

Neither do I. I agree, how he is, in the context of his past in this movie, is totally understandable.

I guess it's the context that's the problem for me.

But hey. I've watched it again, enjoyed it again, and am coming to the conclusion... maybe he's not 'my' Superman. But he's a Superman I like quite a lot.

It's definitely a film that needs multiple viewings, it has so many layers to it its to much to take in on one showing.

I think the Battle of Metropolis is probably the first time ever I have been truly unnerved by a super hero movie (or action movie in general).
When you are watching an action movie and buildings are coming down, it's usually from the point of view of the protagonist and you are seeing the spectacle from their point of view but you aren't really invested because it doesn't feel 'real'.

Seeing the battle of MoS from Bruce's point of view was seriously terrifying.
I think it's a positive that a movie can get that sort of reaction out of me.

Haha, thanks mate!

Yeah, it's really about leaving your expectations at the door and seeing the movie with an open mind and clean perspective.

This is not another retelling of the established characters and stories, this is a new interpretation of these characters in a completely new story and by god after reading all these positive articles and seeing other people's perspectives, what a story it was.

I did the same with MOS and loved it but failed to do it with BVS. Granted, I had other reasons like the movie being spoiled for me that tarnished my feelings towards the movie, but even so, I should have realised Zack "Sucker Punch" Snyder wasn't going to give us what we expected and I'm so glad he didn't. (And I love Sucker Punch and I meant that as a compliment)

It's really amazing to see how deep this movie really is from the point of view of a Greek or Elizabethan Revenge Tragedy.

Plus Mark Hughe's articles have really helped me understand how Superman centric this movie really was and how much he really reveres the character, which is what I always wanted to see. The funny part is both MOS and BVS are closer to and give more reverence to the comics than any other version of Superman and Batman on the big screen. We just don't see it, until we do and then it's clear as day. :)

It's exactly what I thought was missing from the MOS battle in general. I'd love to see a cut of MOS where Bruce's POV stuff was actually mixed up in the film.

Thank you for sharing this! Thank you so much! That was absolutely beautiful. I needed that.

What a great guy in that video!

It was so good, I wrote in the comment to him. I had to of watched his review a good handful of times.

I love how he ended it as well. He ended it thinking how much he was goin to talk about the plot holes and pacing issues and all of that junk but the movie struck the right chord underneath all the blockbuster.

I cannot wait for the damn ultimate cut.

Yeah, that was really a nice ending. :)

This, a thousand times. Some people I've talked with (online, go figure) act as if Snyder murdered their family by altering the characterizations of "these pinnacles of truth, hope, and justice," but he did it in such a way, that to me, was refreshing. As a comic reader, I've read countless tales where Superman is a boy-scout, and Batman is the patriarchal detective. And to their core, Batman and Superman are these same characters, their outer layers are just different, and at the end, Snyder really showed what these characters were, at their core. That, to me, was the most cathartic, 'crescendo moment' I've seen in a long time.

I have to say some stuff and get it off my chest.

I've been an ardent supporter and lover of MOS since it came out and have patiently gone through the terribly long wait and anticipation for 3 long years since this movie was announced, as many of you have. I'm a die hard DC fan and have been consuming Superman and Batman media since as long as I can remember. I remember drawing Superman and Krypto for my dad's birthday card when I was 4 and one of my first action figures was of Batman haha.

I love Zack Snyder and all his movies, Watchmen is one of my favorite movies of all time. I was overjoyed when I heard he was going to direct MOS and then elated beyond words when I heard he will be tackling BVS and the JL movies.

I have checked every piece of news, every picture, every article, every reveal related to BVS for 3 years straight. BVS was the reason I joined these boards and even though I've been much more of a lurker than a contributor, I've checked this board every single day since I joined.

I wanted so badly to love this movie and I hoped and knew Zack would give us another masterpiece that would be too smart for everyone to instantly appreciate and understand and would most probably be very divisive, like all his movies.

I missed the chance to get tickets for last Friday which is when I wanted to see this movie and due to other reasons I could only go on Monday. The additional wait was torture. And then on last Friday, after years of waiting, anticipation and looking forward to being blown away by this movie, the unthinkable happened. My supposed 'best' friend saw the movie on Friday (lives in another city) and even though he knows how much this movie means to me and I specifically told him not to tell me anything at all, he spoiled the movie for me by giving away the ending in a text message.

I was so infuriated and hurt and disappointed that if it turned out to be true, it would have robbed me of the clean, untarnished experience that I had been waiting to have for 3 years. All gone in an instant. My friend said he was just joking and that it doesn't actually happen that way, but then I went and saw the movie and it did.

And now to my main point: I felt empty when I saw the end of the movie, unlike all the people who say they cried at the end or had some other feeling of shock or awe.

Any fan of Superman would have known what to expect given that we knew who the physical threat was and yet, no one knew whether it would actually happen. That experience of finding out for myself was stolen from me, taken from me.

I wanted so badly to feel something, but I felt nothing. Even though I was super excited and in awe of all the new and surprising stuff I saw in the rest of the movie for the first time, I knew what to expect at the end and so it totally fell flat for me and ruined my experience.

I also went in with some preconceived notions of what this movie should depict and when it didn't meet that in all regards it hurt my viewing experience.

The combination of the above things made me disappointed with the entire movie and slowly I found myself directing my anger at all sorts of small things like Doomsday not looking like he should, Superman not doing the shirt rip, the senate bombing not allowing Superman to say anything, Luthor knowing all their identities etc.

I forgot to look for the deeper meaning and themes in the movie, like I love doing in all Zack Snyder movies and I went straight to the disgruntled bashing. I felt unsatisfied, like something was completely wrong and I couldn't put my finger on it. My enjoyment of the movie was severely maimed and was dwindling by the second.

But I didn't give up. After seeing this thread I began to go through it looking for things that would make me love this movie again and found these amazing articles:

http://pulpklatura.tumblr.com/post/141843209469/batman-v-superman-the-modern-revenge-tragedy
http://www.forbes.com/sites/markhughes/2016/03/22/review-batman-v-superman-triumphant/#647a9f393cbd
http://www.forbes.com/sites/markhug...and-batman-v-superman-proves-it/#4da6ff95258e

And after reading them, I will admit my viewpoint has changed completely and I can finally feel myself beginning to appreciate and love this masterpiece that Zack and Co have created for what it really is as opposed to what I wanted it to be. I feel vindicated for not having lost hope and for having kept trying to redeem this movie for myself by expanding my viewpoint so as to see things from a new and clean perspective. Reading those articles was a cathartic experience.

Now I finally feel that when I go to see this movie for a second time this Saturday, I might reach a point where I experience an emotional reaction to the ending of the movie, something that I feel I sorely need in order for me to be able to get past having my experience ruined and for me to truly be able to love and appreciate this movie without feeling like I'm forcing it.

I almost reached that point today, when I was listening to the OST on a loop for hours while I worked and at one point hearing the part where Supes dies and then the tunes during his funeral almost made me tear up, and it was just the music that did that!

Now some of you may feel I am blowing this out of proportion but only I know what this movie has meant to me for so many years. It's been a beacon of hope for the future, something great to look forward to amidst the problems of daily life and a dreary life at that. And I'm sure some of you will agree with that.

After having listened to the OST on a loop for days now, I have fallen in love with it and even though I didn't react much to it the first time I saw the movie, I can already feel how much I'm going to love hearing it in the theater on my second viewing. Good music always makes me enjoy a movie way more and this will do just that.

Those articles above have given me a clean new untarnished perspective to see the movie from and so I'm sure I will enjoy it waaay more the second time and then even more the third and so on.

I just want to conclude by giving a huge THANK YOU to all the positive people in this thread for sharing their viewpoints and for sharing these articles since they have breathed new life into my experience with this movie and have helped me go from bitter and unsatisfied to hopeful and elated.

Just like Superman would want me to be. :)

I completely understand. Looks like you had it worse than me. The reviews took me away from experiencing the movie the right way for my first viewing even though I came out of the movie relatively satisfied. But I was constantly digging for flaws the reviews mentioned and that took me out of the experience. Shouldn't have done that. Hope you have a great second viewing.

Haha. Yeah, we all have that one dumbass friend. One of my friends spoiled one of the key moments of GOD OF WAR III even though he doesn't have a PS3 (He watched gameplay walkthroughs). I have pre-ordered it and waited for it for months and before I could pick my copy, this idiot ruined it at work. What can I tell you? I could only laugh about it now.

A friend of mine at works been off a couple of weeks, he came back today and I found out he's having a baby (well his girlfriend is :oldrazz:) anyway at work we have IM's so I messaged him to say congratulations etc, he quickly changed the subject to Batman v Superman. He loved it, he said seeing it in IMAX 3D was amazing, unfortunately he didn't like Jesse as Lex but he loved Affleck as Batman (he was very skeptical when they announced him) and he loved Supes (his favourite superhero so naturally). But he said he thought the best thing was Doonsday who he called the best villain (I think he more meant threat though) that he's seen in a CBM for ages.

Don't know about anyone else but when people suprise you at how much they loved the movie it's so thrilling :woot:

Thanks a lot mate! I now know for a fact that I will have a great second viewing. Love this movie so much now just by reading and thinking about it.

And what my friend did wasn't just dumb, it was sadistic, nasty and vindictive, for someone who calls himself my friend. And I specifically stayed away from the internet and all the reviews last week and still had it spoiled by my unfortunate luck.

Oh well, can't change the past, can only try to make my future better. Yeah, I will be laughing about it too soon. :)

I hate idiots who spoil things for people, especially when it's done randomly on the internet in places you'd least expect. Had Star Wars episode 7 spoiled for me on a random Fallout 4 video by some jerk in the comments, days after it was out lol.

You need to fire this cat as your best friend :cmad:

I cannot wait for the damn ultimate cut.

Dude, I already got mine pre-ordered! I went ahead and got the one with the Superman statue. I've been wanting to get a Superman statue for awhile now... so yeah. :woot:

I'm excited for it.

YES! I loved this, it had a 9/11 vibe to it. It really felt like gods were fighting in what was more or less an ant-farm in MoS. Now, these are actual people, living, breathing and actual people who are suffering.

Haha, thanks mate!

Mark Hughe's reviews have been great. I didn't have really any expectations except that I LOVE Snyder's work and I loved MoS. Going in on that, it met well for me. Him giving us something different is what I love so much. Because he changed up Superman I have become a Superman fan, I never was before. I think people forget comics and these characters are open to different interpretations. Many people still see Adam West as Batman, haha. The movie takes risks, it's bold and doesn't follow any cliche' formula of other cbm/action block-busters.

Funny stuff. Learned that Bruce Wayne says one phrase in Russian in the film.

Смеется тот, кто смеется последним.
Smejotsya tot, kto smejotsya poslednim.
He laughs best who laughs last.

Ben misses the word "tot". Overall, accent isn't too heavy. Nice job.

I'm a bit disappointed because I was kinda hoping for a man of steel sequel and for superman to be more like he is in the books and I kinda got a Batman movie.

But the movie wasn't the horror story some make it out to be. It's definitely worth anyone on a website called super hero hype going to see :).

Well just come back from my second viewing. First time was standard 2D - this time 3D IMAX.
So, first time I really enjoyed the movie – I guess like most, I was anticipating what the movie would be so much, that a lot of it washed over me.
On second viewing, you sit back relax and really enjoy the movie – and I can honestly say now that I love this movie. :woot:

The view of the battle of Metropolis from Bruce's point of view... wow that whole scene is stunning, and carries real emotional gravitas... the police horse wandering through the dust just seemed so powerful for some reason.
Also, this time I really felt Superman/Clark's despair at all the good he's trying to do going to ****. Also how embarrassed he looked in the scene in Mexico... the numb horror in the Senate hearing, and I felt sorry for him as Batman beat on him.
And as for Batman... pretty near perfection – Affleck's Bruce Wayne was sensational... his Batman was even better – his brutality is necessary for me, though personally don't want to see him killing... I think however, the fact that this Batman was losing his way was clear, as was the reasoning behind it... which made his redemption all the better.
Wonder Woman really was a wonder – Gal was stunning and mysterious throughout – only on second viewing did I realise that the "I've known a few women like you" was a nod to Batman's foes like Catwoman and Talia. The fighting as Wonder Woman was perfect
Lex was superb on second viewing too - Eisenberg's portrayal of an unhinged psychopath was subtely fantastic. The scene at the senate as Finch was going in was brilliant - he actually tells her what's gonna happen when he says "you're in the hot seat"... in fact those little clues and smart comments are littered throughout the movie... very clever stuff.
Supporting cast too was brilliant – Amy Adams is simply gorgeous. Laurence Fishburne was inspired casting as Perry... I did miss Steve Lombard though, and Alfred... well Irons nailed it... I wanted more of him.
The cameos were superb too - I was expecting great things from Aquaman as he had been everywhere in the pre-release merchandise, but Flash in the 'vision' looked incredible and hinted at the camerarderie to come when he said "Bruce" instead of Batman.

So I came out of the theatre really excited for Wonder Woman, really looking forward to Suicide Squad and really, really wanting to see more Batman, more Superman and the Justice league. I hope the studio don't bow to some of the garbage spouted on the internet and keep Zack Snyder at the helm... I feel these films will be truly appreciated in a few years.

I personally feel that MoS and BvS are steps in Superman's evolution.
If an all powerful alien like Superman did turn up on earth, people would fear him like they do in the movie. That fear continues in BvS, but I think what is most important is at the end, there was a coming together in grief - there was an outpouring of love towards him... kind of realising what you had after it's gone... I think that acceptance will make for a Superman more at ease with his place in this world when he returns, and we'll see the Superman we all want... as they say in TDK, the night is always darkest before the dawn.

Amazing positive impressions from this guy, He says some smart things I never thought about and gets emotional at times in a beautiful way!
