Oh, one more thing. I'm in love with "Misty Mountains" song and the main theme. I was waiting until I saw the movie to really listen to it.

  • Bilbo: Well, at least the worst is behind us!
  • Everyone in the theater: HAHAHAHA

People in my theater laughed at that too, I loved the overall comedic tone of the film, fit was just pure, unweighted fantasy and I loved it.

BILBO: And thank goodness I can put this ring away where it won't cause any more trouble.

GANDALF: I just want to kick your ass so badly right now.

I am giving this an 8/10 and am a bit more of perfectionist then others in my family. Its far from being LOTR for it I think was beyond its years and we now see like Star Wars that kind of magic cannot be redone.

However my belief is that The Hobbit Sage will be different and also good and maybe this since is more of a fantasy will get other good works at fantasy a look.
Least wise maybe get World Of Warcraft finally in production.

Best Parts of the movie were the Opening and Bag End stuff I think. Azog looked allot better then people are saying but he needed to be more active a villain.
Gandalf was Flawless and Bilbo taking out that Orc going to kill Thorin was Boss and made Frodo seem slightly wimpy.

I don't understand the hate on the visual effects. Specially for the Great Goblin. I thought he was amazing. The facial movement was perfect.

And the detail was amazing:

Most of the CGI was amazing, in my opinion. Only Azog seemed overly fake to me.

Because that isnt the bad cgi. The bad cgi is the terrible green screen and compositing like the warg chase across the planes. Radagast on that sled looks like pure greenscreen. I mean you can practically see the lines around him at some points and his sled and the wargs do not blend into the environment at all. That scene was inexcusable. It was the TTT warg scene all over again. Heck, it was worse.

Exactly! Adventurous fantasy films like this seem practically nonexistent these days and its a true gem to get one as good as this. 2012 had some great ones, but this Unexpected Journey was the best of this year and maybe several years in my eyes!

Maybe I should give back that crow I ate. Looks like the Hobbit will be no 1 for a 3rd week and pretty much have no drop or even an increase over last weekend.

Again all the people calling this movie a bomb look pretty silly about now. Sure it's not going to have the attendance that TTT or ROTK, but this is traking well, and a lot of the stats are trown off on this one compared to the LOTR series, as those all premiered on a Wednesday where this was a Friday, so the 55% drop last week was not as bad as some made it out. TTT and ROTK had an over 50% drop for example if you assume that most of those early Wed, Thurs numbers would have gone toward the weekend.

In any case fabulous showing, especially with tough competition this weekend.

So I was reading The Hobbit and at the part in the Battle of Five Armies when Thorin & Company leap out of the Front Gate of Erebor onto the Orc army I couldn't help but hear this in my head.

It is gonna be so cool to see that moment brought to life!

Its not hitting $400M domestic at this pace and it didn't do $65-$70M in its second weekend like "you called." Man up. Eat your crow.

I was thinking, I wonder if some of the Hobbit's problems were due to Andy Serkis's Second Unit direction? He handled quite bit of the Hobbit's action scenes, and it could explain why the fighting in this film seemed more cluttered and to possess less "weight" compared to LOTR fights. He is also directing the action in th Five Armies Battle which has me kind of worried.

Richard Armitage (Thorin Oakenshield) talks here about his excitement to be involved in the filming of "The Battle Of Five Armies" for The Hobbit: There And Back Again, while second unit director Andy Serkis also teases the epic scale of the fight sequence!

The news that The Hobbit was being split into three movies was met with a mixed reaction from fans, but perhaps the best part about the announcement was the fact it meant we will get to see "The Battle of Five Armies" brought to the big screen. It hasn't even been shot yet, but talking to Empire Magazine recently, Richard Armitage had this to say about the battle sequence. "It's been put aside until next year, thankfully," he joked. "It's this big thing looming over us. I'm predicting about ten weeks for the shoot because it's an extensive battle and each character is going to have their 'hero' moment on the battlefield. It's a manic fight in the air - the eagles are fighting bats - and on the ground, and I can't wait to see what Pete does with that." That's right, the battle will see men, elves, dwarves, orcs and eagles all facing off for the future of Middle-Earth! It falls to second unit director Andy Serkis to handle the action, but he isn't letting the pressure get to him. "It's going to be intense beyond belief. It's going to be extraordinary - that's all I can say." The Hobbit: There And Back Again is set to be released on July 18th, 2014.

No it didn't, and if you bothered to read my post I said I was wrong and it was a bad drop. However it recovered very well during the week, and it will make another 35-36 million this weekend, and will remain the no 1 movie against heavy competition, plus it will come up against another mon-tues holiday where it should still have very strong numbers.

I think a big problem for the action sequences was the CG orcs to be honest.

Side note is there a reason why I can't vote for this film? It keeps saying it's closed.

You were (badly) trying to back-peddle from your original statements just now.

Maybe I should give back that crow I ate.

Nope. You were wrong. As I said. Eat up the crow. All of it.
