Optimist Prime: Discussion thread for those looking forward to the movie

I really, REALLY like Blackout. He's one of the best looking characters in this movie from what I've seen so far.

Agreed, Blackout is very awesome. I can't wait to see the destruction he'll cause.

:trans:

He looks great....of the pic I've seen he got all the trademarks that makes him popular.......I really like the way he gonna be on big-screen....the blue truck with the orange frame looks great

The thing that I like most is that it seems that Bay is listening to us fans. They re-did Prime's head and the other TF look awesome. I was totally blown away by the trailers. :trans:

I know this is the positive thread, but i hope that this comment was a spot of sarcasm.

Didn't they screen the trailer to a bunch of TF fans before they released in the theaters? I think that was a sign that they were seeking approval of the fans.

Pardon the positive sidestep. As someone stated before, going to the fans might not have been the best measure. If they truly wanted input they should have gone to writers of the different media of Transformers. Comics/books/cartoons/movies...etc. They are the ones who have been creating it for the last 20+ years. That would have been the best move if they were really doing their research.

Sometimes fan input can hurt production. A good example being the stupid provide Optimus Prime his lines contest. A good chunk of people didn't take it seriously and wanted Prime to say stupid stuff like, "do a barrell roll"...c'mon, this ain't Starfox. It is too much bad input from too many different sources. The production should know where to draw the line on fan input and other sources. In my opinion Batman Begins is the perfect balance of everything...especially respect for source material.

On a positive note I do like the fact that there have been some key changes made due to fan outcry. Cullen being cast, the slight changes made to Optimus, Megatron's face not being as fugly as before, Welker being considered...I believe these are all due to fan outcry.

News from Siebertron, someone got to see a 25min preview of the movie.

I just got a call from our very own Ryan (Seibertron himself) after coming back from seeing the special Tranformers Movie Preview tonight in New York. He stated that he got to see about 25 minutes of the movie and he had one thing to say...

INCREDIBLE!

I think the action sequences coming out of Bay's films have been top notch. The pacing, choreography, and effects are always good. I'm pretty jazzed to see what they come up with. Thats about the only thing I think everyone agrees on. That the action sequences seen so far have been pretty boss. I'm wondering, in relation to possible action sequences, does the script mention any of the transformers flying while in their robot modes?

Well the review i read, the sopposed fan states himself that he doesn't know much about TF's. I would hardly call that a true fan, neither would i call him someone of great credibilty with him saying the film looks awesome, especially with very little TF knowledge under his belt....

Well, if you were interested in getting the facts correct, you'd realize that you keep incorrectly calling this reviewer a TF fan.

They stated upfront:

ComingSoon.net/Superhero Hype! was there to take notes and share the experience with our readers what they should expect from the movie, as well as to share a preview of Activision's multi-platform video games, which we were shown a few days earlier. (Note: The writer of this piece is not the most knowledgeable person about Transformers, so if he gets the identity of some of the robots wrong, please don't blame ComingSoon.net or its affiliates.)

So, if you're going to keep pointing it out, at least get the facts correct, as it destroys any point you might be making.

SHH/ComingSoon are not Transformer fan sites. They are movie and video game sites. The review you keep quoting as a supposed-TF-fan-who-doesn't-know-much-about-TFs includes news about the videogame.

So, if the general movie going public (read: non-G1 purist TF fans) agrees with the G1 purist fans (Seibertron), it's a good sign for the film.

As I pointed out numerous times, the reason I included the non-TF fansite quotes is so we can see how non fans are reacting to the footage.

Anyways, let's keep this thread on topic and for the positive optimists.

I'm looking forward to the movie...if the trailer released a little while back is a good indicator of what's to come, then I'm hyped for this movie and hope it will do well...the only things that are a little sour for me are Megatron's and Starscream's design...I don't know about those (especially the chicken legs), but maybe they'll somehow look better on the big screen.

I've been watching a few of Bay's movies recently. Rewatching movies like The Rock, Bad Boys II and Pearl Harbor have me hyped to see what kind of action he's going to have in this movie. One thing that I noticed while watching all of them is that I pretty much tuned out once the movie started. Its like my brain excuses itself so that my eyes can absorb all the eye-candy without any thoughts to get in the way. That aside, I'm looking forward to the action.

I guess that's his skill as a filmmaker. He's darn good at it too. For many people that's a "good" thing.

I'm still excited about seeing this movie, I've been a fan since '84 and I don't care about Prime having flames, or that the bots won't look like thier cartoon counterpart, it's just a movie people so lighten up.

Even if it bombs that doesn't mean the TF franchise is over, Armada, Energon and Cybertron are proof that the Transformers brand can survive garbage.

Although I'm curious how the movie will be able to tell a good story in 2 hours.

Sorry, not to be "Negatron"..... but has Michael Bay ever told a "good story" in 2 hours? I'm curious too.

This thread is for people looking forward to the movie. You are not welcome here :cmad:

In Negatron's defense, Michael Bay does get to pick which stories his name gets attatched to. But something tells me, unfortunately to some, the story isnt really the focus of this movie. This isnt necessarily about the specific journeys each autobot and decepticon go through, its more about introducing the audience to this concept as the humans in the movie are being introduced to it. The story is more about how we experience these robot characters onscreen and get to know them more. and see that there's two factions ..and those two factions are at war..and why. and who's on each side. and see in live action, the closest thing to real life how they function and transform and move and talk and fight. If that makes any sense.

I may be giving this movie too much credit but I dont think an intricate plot is needed for this first film. All franchises get more complex throughout the series. Empire was more complex than A New Hope. They didnt fit the father aspect and Luke and Leia being siblings and Yoda in the first Star Wars. Leave that kind of thing for the second movie after the awe of the effects and spectacle is gone. I guess I'm just Optimist Prime.
