Optimist Prime: Discussion thread for those looking forward to the movie

If Megatron looks and acts anything like he does in the prequel comic, we may find ourselves admitting he is MORE Megatron than the G1 character ever was....

Yep. I'm getting really excited abou this movie. :trans:

In Negatron's defense, Michael Bay does get to pick which stories his name gets attatched to. But something tells me, unfortunately to some, the story isnt really the focus of this movie. This isnt necessarily about the specific journeys each autobot and decepticon go through, its more about introducing the audience to this concept as the humans in the movie are being introduced to it. The story is more about how we experience these robot characters onscreen and get to know them more. and see that there's two factions ..and those two factions are at war..and why. and who's on each side. and see in live action, the closest thing to real life how they function and transform and move and talk and fight. If that makes any sense.

I may be giving this movie too much credit but I dont think an intricate plot is needed for this first film. All franchises get more complex throughout the series. Empire was more complex than A New Hope. They didnt fit the father aspect and Luke and Leia being siblings and Yoda in the first Star Wars. Leave that kind of thing for the second movie after the awe of the effects and spectacle is gone. I guess I'm just Optimist Prime.

Quite agreeable, for both sides.

Wow, this kind of feels like a true Transformers war or something! Us--the Autobots--against the nay slaying Decepticons, or as they would have it, the other way around.

Cars and Explosions...

I mean all this hubbub about "Oh, mouth, oh, no mouth..." Is that why we like Transformers? Because Optimus has a MOUTH!

NO WAY! Transformers are cool from concept to execution and, honestly, I see that happening with this movie... quite a bit in fact. They're giving Michael Bay a blank check, and I can only imagine what kind of set pieces he's going to run with. I mean... chase scenes just haven't been done yet, but Michael Bay will do them... for the first time, this summer...

Now what can we do to get this thread past five pages, so it looks respectable?

It already is respectable.. you don't need to pad the thread to make it look better.

Or to put it another way, if we just sat here for the next 10 pages and talked about how our day went, it doesn't matter. Look past the page count and what's actually being written.

If there were 2 guys who were fanatically against the film and posted every hour for the next 3 months that thread would look like there's a huge problem with the film. Looking closer, you see it's just the same stuff being posted over and over by the same two people.

If it helps any, there's an equal number of people seemingly for and against the thread when you look at the number of participants in both threads.

I'm actually really excited to see Kevin Dunn play Sparkplug. That was some good casting right there :)

Thank you Cth... that's the voice of reason right there... you rock.

things i LOVE about this movie:
1) michael bay
2) don murphy
3) frank welker not voicing megatron
4) optimus prime's flame paint job
5) bumblebee's sweet ass camaro alt mode
6) megatron actually looking evil rather than looking like his stupid generation 1 (i'm assuming g1 stands for generation 1) self
7) tyrese
8) the fact that they are not using the cliched, tired story from the first installment of the cartoon that was already old before it was even conceptualized
9) the fact that this movie isn't another rehash of a bunch of robots fighting over an oil rig, like the old show

whats so good about tyrese?

whats so good about tyrese?

Sweet Christmas! Are you serious??? Go watch Four Brothers, then come back when you are better prepared to speak on these issues :)

Tyrese is suprisely pretty good actor in very movie i've seen him in. Check out 'Annapolis'. 'Waist Deep' and 'Baby Boy'. He nailed those rolls down perfectly imo.

Yeah, I think the first crop of singers-turned-actors turned everyone off, but honestly, some of these guys are pretty good... in Smokin Aces, I would never guess that Alicia Keys and Common were singers first (cept for their song in the credits)... even Justin "Timbaland owns my career" Timberlake turned in a believable performance in Black Snake Moan.

Of course, 2 Fast 2 Furious didn't do too many favors for anyone's career...

I was never a huge tranfsormers fan as a kid but I like the idea of giant robots blowing crap up and thats what I'm excited to get with this film. If the plot is decent then that's always a plus.

100 days to go, I guess thats being optimistic.

Hugo Weaving was a great casting choice! Now I'm even more excited about this movie.

I like the new designs on the Transformers. It's fresh, it's new, more alien like. I have always been unsettled that in the cartoon they look a little too humanoid and always wondered, "How did that part get to be the knee?" lol

The trailer was pretty cool, new and different

I like the cast

It's Michael Bay so the movie has action written all over it

Transformers has a much better plot then the cartoons did, lol

The Decepticons actually look like decepticons

Stephen Spielberg has a hand in this so of course it's going to be good

From the trailer you can tell CGI has come a long way.

You know, the fact that Hugo Weaving has been cast makes it seem as though Megatron will have more to say/do in the movie than in the script. That possibility can only be a positive. Why would they hire a name actor like weaving
and only have him say a few lines? Wouldn't make sense.

I'm looking forward to seeing Transformers, I don't really expect a great storyline for this movie just ton's of non-stop action. So my main reason for seeing this movie is I'm a huge fan of The Transformers franchise & Optimus Prime . :trans:

I have to say that i'm loving the myspace poster thingie that popped up here yesterday

I think this'll be a great new direction for the series. The Aubotbots look fantastic and the Decepticons look just plain EVIL. They look like the bad guys. I always found the original Megatron to look rather plain looking. He looked fine for the cartoon...but in full CGI in a live-action flick he would look pretty lame.

It's great to see the Transformers fully realized in a modern day setting with significant updates in appearance.

I usually stay away from this thread as I have nothing good to say, but Keith David being cast as Barricade is awesome. Barricade is by far the design I've b****ed about the least, and now he has a freakin' bad ass voice to match.:up:

well, it's nice to know that Negatrons CAN get excited about the movie, hehe. :)

i can't wait to hear what they sound like. as awesome as the sound from the trailer was, it's gonna be crazy hearing their voices in the theater...
