Optimist Prime: Discussion thread for those looking forward to the movie

FF2 looks ****ing incredible, if i do say so, and i hated the first one.

Looking at the haul of pics that Allgood has posted in the last hour or so I am soo pumped for this. The shots of Barricade look frigging awesome!

Looks like it will be fun. I start posting here again when I saw those awesome new photos. I love the Barricade shots.

I'm very OPTIMISTIC! :yay: I enjoyed watching it way back as a kid. I think it has lots & lots of fans and judging from the trailer, it's gonna be a very good film. That's why I believe Transformers may be the 'dark horse' this year. I think it may pull off a surprise and gross higher than expected & also recieve praises from critics. YES, I BELIEVE!!! :cwink:

To be honest after seeing Spidey3 and how bad it is compared to the other two (Even though it's raking in the $£$£$£) i think that TF could be a contender for top movie this summer.

i want TF to be so successful, but even if the movie turns out to be Bay's best movie by far i doubt the critics are humble enough to praise one of Bay's movies...even if it turns out to have depth to it.

Oh please. Critics (and movie buffs and movie historians alike) have reason for being down on Bay. Critics aren't out to "get" Bay. I'm sure he'll get the recognition he deserves for it if it turns out to be good.

Although... come to think of it... if it does turn out to be extraordinarily good, they'll probably credit Steven Spielberg.... as happened with the likes of Poltergeist and Men in Black. It's unfortunate.... but they might have a point. I dunno.

BTW, this isn't a "negatron" post. I fully believe filmmakers grow and can become great. Michael Bay I think has the potential.... he's just never been brave enough to go for it. Maybe this movie will be "it."

a lot of them are...a lot of them aren't. let's just leave it at that...

Well....

From what ive seen... this movie looks "fun"
Im sure it will be a roller coaster of an action flick... (im 90% certain of that)

Yeah some of the chracecters may have been butchered - LIPS?? i mean... COME OOOOOONNNNNNN!

and starscream looks crap.. although the trailer of him transforming imprved my opinion slightly... and Megatron looks like a pile of iron fillings on a magnet...
But again... once these bots are seen on full motion and full glory....
Maybe the designs wont seem so bad!

All in all... ive given up worrying that one of my favourite childhood pastimes maybe be destroyed ever...

and i think im just gonna make do with some damn fine explosion and impressive action.
I think anyone saying they will wait for this movie to go to DVD is daft!

See this on the BIG screen will be the only thing which saves it... purely for the spectacle...

The Wow factor will be lost once it hits DVD ... unless its a surprisingly good "movie"

I am hyped for this movie like crazy. To me this is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow of summer movies IMO. Bay can make this movie great. And yes critics are exactly fair with Bay. But O well. Most critics are snobs and have a form of elitism in there reviews. Doesnt matter to me. Bay can do this, he can make this movie great.

Screw critical praise, this is definatly a true "Popcorn flick" if there ever was one. I'm listening to fans. Not crazy Transformers fans, but people I know who used to casually watch the cartoon and owned the toys, in the 80's. I know the people who think this movie is a travisty are going to be screaming "It SUCKED Die Bay DIE!!!" no matter what. But I will see it opening day, because I want to see live action Transformers. And as bad as this movie is supposed to be, it's closer to "My transformers" than the post-1994 cartoons and anime crap I've seen since whenever.

Same here. It won't take much for me to geekgasm in the theater. Just give me Cullen saying "roll out autobots" and some splosions.

tis all good.

The film looks freakin' amazing. the character designs are great...very alien and powerful. I CANNOT wait to see this film. I love Transformers. :)

Since, as the SHH front page reported, that the movie is two weeks from being locked, is there any news on who's doing the score?

I was wondering, since I'm not a TransFormers fan, although I'm exstremely anticipating the movie!!! What do you guys think of the human aspect in the picture; about the Tranformers coming to earth???!

I've read the leaked script (couldn't put it down!), and it seems to me that if you're gonna do a live TransFormers flick, this is definitly the way to do it (but what do I know!). I remember many beeing concerned that the humans in the movie would have more screen-time than the TransFormers them selfs; that the humans would have the more story, and the main focus wouldn't be on the transforming machines them selfs. For those who's also read the script, what do you think???

I dont mean to get ahead of my self, but here's my opinion, take it if you will. For me, I DO remember the TransFormers cartoon from childhood. My older brother watched them all the time, and is too anticipating the film!
This is the first time that the transformers will hit the big screen, in a huge blockbuster live-action picture! The cartoons took place on the transformers home planet (Cybertron, right!?). Here, in the live action flick, they come to earth (and some have been there for a long time, too). I think, to give it a better WOW-factor, that it was wice to have the movie take place on earth! Had it been on Cybertron (which we learn in the movie has been destroyed), it would've just been an alien-planet. There would've been transformers all over the place, and ONLY tranformers which wouldn't really have anything to do with Us humans than. It would just be a sci-fi movie taking place on an unknown distant planet far far away. We (the audience) wouldn't really think about realism, cause what would we know about how things work on a made-up sci-fi world. It would've been too easy that way. But having them arrive on earth, a sense of realism is in order, and that is much cooler!

As the TransFormers comes to life -becomes REAL-, for the first time ever, they come to earth! They step out of the cartoon-world and into OUR world! What was ones drawn transforms into "real-life" looking form, as they enter our world! THIS, is why humans/earth colliding with the Tranformers will have such a huge impact! It melts together and becomes ONE. Two universes comes together for the first time; becomes real in front of our very eyes! So I ask you; Had that been nearly as cool -nor had the same effect- had it been a newly developed cartoon, as before??? I dont think so!

As I read the script and was introduced to the human characters: Sam, Mikaela, Lennox, Maggie & Glen, combined with the huge huge HUGE scope-factor of the whole thing, you know what I thought of? "INDEPENDENCE DAY"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has the same kind of character personalities involved (and I love that!). It seems to have the same energizing gigantic feel, and having that absolutely huge WOW-action in place!

The story is exstremely solid! But it all depends on how it's displayed on screen, right! I really like the human characters in this film, and I honnestly dont think it would've been the same if they didn't have those in the flick as well. That beeing said, from reading the script, it doesn't seem like the humans are taking over **** in this movie! We mostly see it from Sam's point of view. This everyday kid, who (LMFAO!) all the sudden gets a transforming car (**** KITT and Herbie!). And as confusing and scary as it seems for Sam, we're right there with him as we learn that it's not his car that means him harm! And as we get filled in on the blanks what this movie is all about, everything that seemed like such a lame concept to begin with (I'm talking about the people who know NOTHING about transformers!) is eluminating to become something guite badass and UNexpected! DEFINITLY unexpected! The movie seems to build a good huge amount of respect around it self; damn, even the transformers origin and how they work becomes exstremely cool! As the audience slowly receives that vibe, the movie just takes off FULL THROTTLE!

I LOVE what this movie seems to become! And also how they've managed to blend the whole transformers aspect into our real world. That's another HUUUUGE plus-factor right there! Especially the part about why Hoover Dam was build in the first place!;) Genius!

All of the above^ is my opinion and feel about the movie. I dont know if you can agree, but there you have it!... What do you guys think of where this movie is headed?

I agree with the last poster...except that the CARTOONS took place on earth. Not Cyberton.

The tv series took place on earth. The 1986 movie took place on Cybertron, Earth and other planets.

weyseed, if you're talking box office, then your prediction couldn't have been more off.

^ well, as I've said, I'm not a transformers fan, so excuse me for not knowing all about transformers, or where they were in the cartoons... I guess I have a lot to learn;). What I'm trying to say is that the script sounds awesome, and the movie seems to be one hell of a ride!!!...

FF2 looks ****ing incredible, if i do say so, and i hated the first one.
I honnestly dont see what the heck is looking so incredible about FF2, I REALLY dont!... It doesn't look any better visual-wice than the first, and all that talk about the Silver-surfer beeing so incredible made, jesus ****ing christ!... What's impressive about him, I ask??? It doesn't look any better than T1000's silver image from T2, waaaaay back from 1992! A more simple or EASIER character to create now at days, I can't emagine. The only cool thing about the Silver Surfer, is the fact that Laurence Fishburn is voicing him. Granted that this film seems to be better than the first movie, but then again, that's not a tough task to follow:o

I'll see this movie, but looking at all other superhero movie's from the last 6-7 years, there's nothing, what so ever, that looks mindblowing about this film.

ps: you wanna talk about an impressive CG character? Than let's talk Sandman here! The birth of Sandman in Spidey 3 is the most beautiful CG ever created and seen on screen! The only way you'd see that as CG, is the fact that you KNOW it is!

Wow! What a rant. You sound like an ex-Fox disgruntle employee... :whatever:

^ I'm not, and I'm not trying to ***** over nothing.... What I wrote in that post is absolutely true... If you're looking forward to that movie that's absolutely fine... I just needed to state my opinion about the matter. Those FX in Rise of the Silver surfer are NOT impressive the least bit.

Special effects like seen in Spidey 3 & TransFormers, THAT'S impressive.

Well i for one didn't see anything uniquely special about the effects in SM3 that i haven't seen anywhere else.......Transformers.......now that's to be determined. We've seen some great shots so far, but from an advertising standpoint every film shows off their best hand. I'll reserve judgement on TF until i see it.

As far as FF2, i wasn't speaking of it effects wise anyway, i just meant it looked amazing - storywise and much better than the first.

One thing that has impressed me about ILMs work on this film is how these 'bots look more like miniatures, NOT GCI!

Very impressive.
