Optimist Prime: Discussion thread for those looking forward to the movie

weyseed, if you're talking box office, then your prediction couldn't have been more off.

Let's look at what I typed back then.

"Spidey will underwhelm. Pirates will perform moderately. Shreck will flop."

Spidey did underwhelm. 60% drop second weekend, doesn't look like it'll match or surpass even the second film's totall. so I don't see how that was off. We'll have to wait and see if it continues to hold that openning weekend record though. Sure that was impressive, but it's not insurmountable.

Pirates has recently gotten a few lukewarm reviews in at aicn. Not too bad. Just as I said. I think it'll get moderate reception... it'll do ok, but not ridiculously great like the last movie.

Shrek's just, I don't know what to think of it. It's not that popular anymore so I kinda exaggerrated when I said it'd flop, but I don't think it'll blow us away that's for sure. IF it does, then woopty doo. Who cares about shrek anyway?

I am REALLY pumped about this movie now...

Im gonna suspend all my doubts and issues.... . ..Watch it..
im 90% sure it gonna be a blast....
once ive recovered from the amazing spectacle of it all...

THEN.. i will decide IF its a good "Transformers" movie... Or not!

:trans:

I need to say something... I'm not a Transformers fan, but I can't ****ing wait for this film!

What I wanted to say, is this!

How can some of you guys biatch soooooooooooooooo much over Prime having lips! OK, we get it, you dont like them, but come on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You really need to shut the **** up now! It's pathetic! With a film looking this ultra ****ING COOL, you really should be drowning in tears of happyness with what you seem to be getting!!!! This film looks absolutely INCREDIBLE, I have never seen anything like it, EVER!!! IF Prime's lips shown in a couple of scenes is the only problem within this film, than I say get over it already!

I thought that "Spider-Man 3" would be the most incredible looking film this summer.... let's just say I was WRONG!!! It shows already!

This film looks to cool for words! Stop whining, and begin smiling!

For me it comes down to a tie between SM3 and TRANSFORMERS.

I have been waiting for both around the same amount of time. This movie is going to be amazing. Personally loved the screenplay and Spielburg's approach to the story "a boy and his car." Which really grounds this fantastic world. The effects are also most likely to win the award for best sfx this year at the academy- no doubt about it.

And the marketing team seems to be doing great.

I'm not a TRANSFORMERS fan either, but a huge fan of the characters and films after reading that leaked script. Really going to be huge. ID4 HUGE.

^ Believe me, I KNOW that a live-looking spider-man is a much tougher task to make look absolutely real, than giant metal-machines! It all comes down to the surface of things! With transformers, which has nothing to do with generating a human CGI figure, it looks to be flawless what they've done to bring the transformers to life!.... Spidey 3 was absolutely fantastic made too... But most people dont understand how tough it is to make a CG human/spider-man compared to metal machines like the transformers... Majority of people will look at transformers and say that that film is tons better made then Spidey 3... In some area's I'd propably agree...

The CG is advanced enough now to create those type of things and make it look practickly 100% real... they aren't quite there yet when it comes to generate human faces/skin... but they're getting damn close, and that's why spidey 3 was so impressive!

I think you will definitely feel for the Autobots. Just that shot of Bumblebee getting manhandled brought tears to my eyes. :oldrazz:

I agree... about the Bumblebee part at least (not sure about your larger statement). And based on the short clip in the trailer, Shia lends a good gravity to that scene.

been learning maya for a year now. what is said here is pretty true. at the beginning of my study, i always think that making a realistic car would be so much more difficult than making a realistic human head. very quickly i found that i was wrong.

so is to all the living things, if you try to make a 3d tiger, it's probably gonna be the same difficult (especially when you try to make it move).

but i'll also say, those transformers are not common machines. you know that only one arm of ironhide has like over 10,000 parts, and they all need to move visually logically to tranform.

i'll say it's not about the level of difficulty here. the CGI used in transformers is just ground-breaking. something you never saw and they never did before.

^ I agree that it's groundbreaking and incredible! I wouldn't dream of saying otherwice; it's unbelievable what they've done in this film!!! ...

But those machines, ones created and thrown in to their computer-systems, that's that (I'd emagine). All those moving parts you speak off has definitly been given a lot of detail, but ones created they're there, doing what they must... Like creating a CG character (like Buzz from Toy Story, just for an example). Ones created they can throw him in there and move him around the way they want. I know Toy Story is NO TransFormers LOL!... but you know what I mean.

if the fx dont win an oscar..... then hitler has taken over.

if i wasn't so sure before. the first time i saw this final trailer m pretty damn sure we have a winner already. no worries. :cwink:

i have to say in the beginning when i saw all the changes i had low expectations for this movie, but after the newest trailer i must say that i am pretty hyped. sure i still miss the original look of megatron and starscream, but i can swallow it now and enjoy this movie when it comes out. the effects look truly amazing and the action as well. can't wait for the movie to come out.

And what is sick is that Bay is telling us that all these shots are just "teaser" shots...the money shots are yet to be shown.

If he is telling the truth, i'm going to have to see this movie 6-7 times to catch it all..!

I'm just giddy about seeing some of those decipticons tear ***** up. Bonecrusher and Blackout just look tough as all get out. And amazingly enough, starscream is doing some of the coolest stuff i've ever seen in film...i really think he is going to win alot of people over.

I truly believe Blackout is gonna steal the show but then again Barricade is voiced by Keith David, so that ups Barricade's cool points in my book!

I've said since the beginning that Blackout looks truly awesome. Now that we've seen him transform and in movement it only boosts my confidence in his badassness

Have you seen the Shrek 3 trailer?

Man the shot of Blackout dispatching Scorponok into the sand, is worth the price of the movie ticket alone..!

You gotta see it in the theater or a clear version of it, the new shots are just that awesome.

i think Ratchet's gonna surprise us and have some of the best parts in the movie, hehe. j/k...but i'm lookin' forward to seein' what Ironhide can do.

hope everyone is saving their nickels and dimes cus i cant wait to buy some of this s hit !

this movie is my most anticipated this year !

I was looking forward to Spider-Man 3 a lot, but that was a disappointment. I don't think Transformers will disappoint me. The trailer is so HUGE! I smiled for 5 minutes after seeing the Yahoo exclusive trailer. I think it's a plus Spielberg is attached to the project. We all know Bay can handle action and SFX, Spielberg is also good in this department, and he also knows how to create a story around the mayhem. I'm still wondering how they could've made this movie with a budget of $150-200 million. Spider-Man 3 cost $250 million, and there are only a few great SFX shots in it.

i wondered the same thing. there are quite a few cg shots, but it wasn't that spectacular. probably the filming in new york is quite expensive.
still when it comes to budget, i am amazed how LotR cost only 90 mil per movie. i mean those movies were huge with ,any cg shots, cg characters and mega battlescenes. sure they saved money by filming back to back but all 3 movies cost 300 mil. that's only 50 mil less than sm3.
