My prediction is that I'm going to end up coming down on the film in similar fashion as I did to MoS. Eh,....it's ok(all things considered).

We'll see tomorrow.

Yes, its always good to make your mind up on a film before you see it.

Considering the sheer number of big fun hits that have arrived since Summer 93 and not too long after that particular date(when we were still young).

That's quite the statement. I mean the first power rangers movie came out in 95 and not to many kids were snobs back then...
To think this is the film eh...

So...you're saying that the Power Ranger Movie should have struck me in the same way that Jurassic Park did? I enjoyed the PR movie, it's a guilty pleasure. But there was nothing aweinspring about it for me. I don't look back at it and think "Wow, that moment when Ivan Ooze appeared is what really sent chills down my spine and made me believe in movie magic."

The first time I saw a dino in Jurassic Park is one of the most definitive moments in movie magic for me. It was a feeling of wonder that has stuck with me ever since. The movie that was able to do that previously was Terminator 2: Judgement Day. I'm not simply talking about the greatness of a movie or how "fun it was." Because there have been plenty of movies since then that can meet those requirements. I'm talking about a movie or moments in movies that made me believe in the power of cinema magic. And in that sense, Pacific Rim was able to inspire a feeling in me that I haven't experienced since Jurassic Park.

If you don't like this movie, that's fine. I don't think you're wrong, you're allowed to feel however you want to feel about it. However, I'm fairly capable of interpreting my own feelings about it, thanks.

I can't wait to hear some of the reactions to this film. Sooo many people seem to be hating on this film(especially that article showing all those tweets a week ago), but I think it looks like a dumb yet fun ride.

Just as many (if not more) are the exact opposite. Unconditionally loving it before they've even seen it.

I'm sure there are, I guess I just haven't spent enough time in this thread to notice. I was just going off of the numerous tweets coming from a lot of people that aren't exactly obsessive film nerds like most of us who spend a lot of time on movie message boards.

Still fresh on RT.

Meanwhile, Grown Ups 2 is at 0%. Not many reviews in, but still.

Still, a goose egg would be a new low, even for him.

I hope he pulls it off. It would be refreshing to see that even he is aspiring to greater things.

The first Grown Ups only has a 10%, not too surprising if this ends up around that or even lower.

Maybe they can get Shayamalan to direct the inevitable Grown Ups 3.

It would actually achieve a negative score on RT.

:funny:

Looks like my prediction of Rim ending with at least 80% on RT is not going to come to pass, is it even going to stay above 70%? Not that it's reviews are going to effect me one way or the other because I decide what I enjoy or do not enjoy.

Not entirely sure what you are implying about my enjoyment of the film(I haven't seen). I simply said considering it's been 20 years of cinema since 93, what you are saying is pretty bold.

I brought up power rangers mainly because it was about megazords and guys in suits in robots fighting monsters and going on an adventure which draws alot of parallels to what seems to be going on here.

For me however I've seen plenty of awe inspiring cinema in the past twenty years that has equal and surpassed JP, if I hadn't I'd probably have stopped going to the movies.

Feel how you wanna feel.
You're welcome.

Not the same as slobbering devotion which is what I've frequently seen.
I don't care for that either. I think having a decent amount of skepticism about every film is the way to go. Not that you can't really look forward to a film (lord knows I was obsessively looking forward to MOS) but when you walk into a theater you should not be forcing yourself to enjoy a movie just because you were looking forward to it, just like you shouldn't force yourself to hate a movie just because you weren't looking forward to it.

I'd rather deal with that then the trend of hating on everything that is permeating the internet. I'm not saying people need to love everything, but negativity is the norm now. People used to just look forward to films. Now its what can we say to insult the writers, director, actor, people who look forward to it? All of the popular humor based off of film now a days is all simply nitpicking it. HISHE, Honest Trailers, various Cracked articles, Everything Wrong With...it's all simply making fun of inconsistencies or overthinking of small moments or mundane details. It's not done with any creativity or love. It's all cynical. It's just "lets point out all the nitpicks!"

Power Rangers the movie certainly has similar elements (It actually came to mind during the fight with Otachi, a scorpion-like kaiju) but that doesn't mean that movie at all invokes the same feelings as this one, mostly because it is not good, I mean, I enjoyed it as a kid but even then the effects on Oozes mech monsters were pretty laughable.

And yeah there have been a lot of really well made and wonderful movies with spectacular effects and things in the past 20 years, but what I'm pretty sure Wolfwood is referring to is the feeling invoked the first time you see the brachiosauraus or the end when the "When Dinosaurs Ruled the the Earth" banner falls down around the T-Rex. There's a certain vibe at play there and its one that Pacific Rim aims for and at times touches upon, I would agree.

I've become increasingly convinced that pretty much no "classic" geek loved film would be nearly as well regarded if they came out today or had the modern world wide web existed upon their release.

its so bad its going to beat pacific rim and it wont be close will open at number1 will rim will open 3rd
I think Despicable Me 2 is going to be number one while Grown Ups and Rim fight for second place. I'm expecting a 12 to 16ish million friday for Rim.

And I have to agree that there is too much negatively online but that doesn't mean that the Pacific Rim keyboard warriors aren't annoying.
