not to bag on your opinion but...have you ever watched an Anime or follow a lot of it? its pretty much like that.

again people will like it for the action and may hate it for being camp but this movie definitely should be seen with those old Kaiju movies/Anime shows in mind.

Yeah it's possible you have to be an anime fan to appreciate it. I'm not an anime fan at all. I think fans of the genre will love it. But I can't see it going down big with the GA.

I dug it! I was promised Giant Mechs beating the **** out of stuff and that's what I got. It was a bit slow and cliche at times but it put out when it needed to. Thought Charlie Day stole the show character wise.

Only thing that kind of bugged me was how they seemed to not use or forget about their weapons.

8/10 for me

I have no idea what the GA will think of it, they might love it for all I know. It's just impossible to predict something like that.

I loved the **** outta this movie. It was exactly, EXACTLY what I wanted it to be. The only reason I'm not giving it a 10 is because the dialogue was a bit dumb at times. I'm gonna see it again this weekend. Also, the mid-credit scene was pretty nifty too. Nothing major, but I enjoyed it.

Yeah I'm going to.completely disagree with that. It's not fast, i found it to drag hardcore all throughout the second act. The pacing was not good and it was about 30 minutes of awesome and a hour and half of eh
its my opinion that the movie is good. but the pacing is not an opinion. nothing drags in this movie. ????? nothing.

if PR drags than wtf did people think for Star Trek 2 and Man of Steel? ????????

I didn't think the movie was fun and I didn't find the pacing to be anything special.

That was by far my biggest problem with the movie. In total it was only about 40 minutes of action and and hour +20 minutes of sloooow booooring baaaaad caricature garbage. That's not what they were selling.

.
for a movie of this size this i a lot. i dont think that WB,Legendary and del Toro hold back with the action on a 200 million budget. big robots are expensive. since they are bigger than transformers its even more expensive.

I can tell that my time in this thread isn't going to end well.

Haha, don't worry, you're not the only one, though I didn't hate the film by any stretch. Hating it would have at least given me an emotional response. I walked out of this movie and forgot about it 10 minutes later.

I highly enjoyed this movie. I can see why people wouldn't. The script, the dialogue, character depth are the weakest part along with pumping up the movie with an extra dose of cheese. However, those things did not actively bring down the movie for me. I liked all three leads its just that they weren't given more to work with.

Definitely seeing this again. That Hong Kong sequence was fantastic.

I don't know how many people were at my 10pm showing. I guess 15-25 or something. The only time late night showings at my giant theater are near sold out is for Avengers, TDKR, Twilight and The Hunger Games and stuff of that sort. I'm really bad at guessing.

Nah, it's not something to hate. And I'm not trying to convince anyone to dislike it. If one likes the film, awesome for them. And I have no problem respectfully discussing the film with people who enjoyed it.

I love Del Toro but I'm sorry to say that this movie didn't work for me. I thought the robot vs. monster fights were amazing but I was meh or disliked everything else.

The dialogue was atrocious, the characters were cartoons with virtually no depth what-so-ever. 95% of the time these didn't feel like real people at all. The humor fell completely flat and the movie looks nice but is way over designed. Also I hated the two scientist character's, they were horrible in every way.

The story isn't bad but the movie is shallow and never really explores anything. I might have been able to ignore certain things if the film and characters were charming but they largely aren't. I never felt apart of the film's world, I always felt detached from the proceedings. I think it's a huge disappointment and this kind of tripe is beneath such a great director. It's just a lame kids movie that verges on being boring when robots and monsters aren't on screen.

Rating 5.5 or 6/10

I sure enjoyed looking at a shirtless Hunnam eventhough he was dull as dishwater but I don't know if he was fully to blame for that one.
its a classic 90's blockbuster movie. the characters are set up very fast and they you go on on an adventure. its a spielberg movie with an unique vision IMO. for example Indiana Jones. just fun and action.

last week Cliffhanger was on tv. here is the opening . 10 minutes are spend on setting up the characters and to show us a tragedy. all those characters come back in the middle of the movie. almost no development .just a simple and clear action movie. and its moving very fast.

i respect your opinion. but why do we need always a complex story and development? this movie was meant to be about humans and winning. a positive story how humans survive. Raleigh and Mako were created to give us robot/monster fights. but still we got a sad backstory and how those kaju destroyed their lives. i like how in 2 minutes we get simple and clar information about the humans around the world. they stoped using robots because they are now building walls. the purpose of the wall was to hide behind it. so they are not anymore using robots to get out and fight but are not hiding.
this is a 100% fanboy geek movie with bright colors and weird scientist. its a live action cartoon. i understand everyone who doesnt like PR because of that.

i liked this summer Fast 6 and it also didnt have any development.

When will writers learn that characters and their development can be just as important as the shiny visuals and plot. :argh:
in a time where characters are so complicated that nothing they do makes sense..........in this time the characters in PR are clear and good IMO. the characters dont change and make dumb choices becaue the writter doesnt know how to start the third act. MOS,ST2,Prometheus,....

Writer also doesn't know how to write interesting characters

I liked the character's in Furious 6 way more than this film and although I felt Furious 6 acting was over the top I didn't think it turned into the complete cartoon nonesense I saw in Rim. I'm 28 years old, I know about 80's/90's films, I grew up on those films. I'm not just some young whipper snapper. I wasn't asking for a complex drama nor was I asking for it to have a 100% dour tone. I knew what type of film it was and unfortunately for me I didn't like the film.

the male main character is a 100% hollywood cliche. but he served his purpose.

Mako was very interesting. she was a cute little girl who spend 10 years thinking about revenge.:atp: and then because of her fear she almost killed all humans in the hanger.:wow:

but thats why this is fair. if you like a movie than it doesnt matter if there is any development or if the acting is over the top. if you like it you like it.

but if someone doesnt like PR than i understand why the acting and no development could be a problem. but lets be fair. this is about liking it or not liking it. can we all agree that movies dont need development?

and pacing and editing has nothing to do with taste and opinion. its technical. its about how footage was cut and how the movie flows. if someone doesnt like it of course his going to feel boring. but from a technical stand point this was one of the best edited and paced movies.

just look at the ending. when they come out of the water. 3 minutes was spend on this ending. no long monologe from the male character. they come out and they look at each other. the planes are flying above them and...............END. boom.

The only thing that isn't an opinion is that ILM did a top notch job on the visual effects. I didn't see anything special regarding the pacing. It wasn't horrible and it wasn't great either. I was ready for the film to end before it did so yeah obviously I think that something was off.

My sister texted me back and said it was probably 30-40 people. So not a bad crowd at all. I definitely think it's doing over 40mil.

Don't worry, you're not alone by a long shot. This is the review that most people keep linking me to, and it tackles the cliched character flaws very well:
