Wow..$35 to see this movie in Imax 3D. Curse you hollywood! You know i'll pay it. :(

Being that I grew up watching NGE and the Gundam series as well as being in LOVE with Kaiju movies when i was a kid this movie was basically a love letter to me.
Definitely. I love the Big-O homage del Toro put in with the elbow rocket.

Hell yes...Got my tickets... 4:15pm in IMAX $35..BUT SO WHAT...THIS IS WHAT IMAX WAS MADE FOR

I'm seeing the movie tomorrow. I have two choices. RPX or Imax 3D. Can anyone who has seen it in 3D confirm if it's worth the extra ticket cost for 3D?

Saw it in IMAX 3D last night. In short: THE MOVIE F-ING RULED! 3D effects were a little iffy at times, but I had a BLAST! The story was great, the characters were fun and fleshed-out, and the action scenes were probably the best I've seen all summer! Hell, even Ron Perlman was enjoyable in this, as usual! Overall, I think Guillermo's done it again, and I STRONGLY advise seeing it! Beats seeing Grown Ups 2 any day!

10/10

When Gipsy Danger punches through the building and hits the [BLACKOUT]Newton's Cradle[/BLACKOUT]. One of the greatest reactions I can ever remember in a movie theater.

spoilers

Idris Alba likes to use a big machine to sacrifice himself and kill an alien. in Pacific Rim with the robot and in Prometheus with the prometheus ship.

haha :)

Thus continuing a not so grand Hollywood tradition.

The film is amazing, eye popping visuals plus a fun story. I love how insane every aspect was, great fun.

Box Office: 'Pacific Rim' Off to Roaring Start with $3.6M Late Night Showings

"Pacific Rim" exceeded expectations for its Thursday night late night showings, racking up $3.6 million, based on studio tracking.

That is in line with the $3.6 million "World War Z" generated in its late night showings last month. The Brad Pitt disaster film earned $66.4 million in its opening weekend. It also means that "Pacific Rim," like "World War Z," may have overcome bad buzz to emerge as a solid performer.

The Guillermo del Toro directed monsters versus robots film has been plagued by soft tracking and incessant nattering within the industry that it was likely to bomb. Based on its strong early showings, it now seems likely to open to $50 million.

With a production cost of more than $200 million and no "big name" stars, the Legendary Pictures film represents a huge gamble.
Warner Bros., which is distributing the film, is pleased with the film's overseas numbers. The picture debuted in seven Asian markets like Korea and Thailand on Thursday, where is grossed $3.8 million from 2,157 screens, and led the box office.

"Pacific Rim" will roll out in 38 territories this weekend, including such major markets as Italy, Russia, Mexico and Australia.
The film, which stars Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba, faces stiff competition domestically. If will square off against Adam Sandler's "Grown Ups 2" and the second week of "Despicable Me 2" at the box office.

Looks like Long Ranger tanking helped it. Now I wait to see if the late shows are fanboy frontloaded.

I totally think this is the type of movie that woud be even better with a sequel.

come on people...someones gotta let us know if the 3D was worth the cost or if it doesn't make a huge difference

The 3D was good especially in the first act. You can tell del Toro filmed with 3D in mind, unlike some other directors who just say **** it.

I saw it in 2D, gonna see it again in IMAX 3D tonight.

9/10.

Pure, unadulterated, un-convoluted, straight-forward FUN. It is a film made with heart and style utterly lacking in cynicism. Leave your movie watching baggage at the door, it is not needed here.

The complaint about cheesy dialogue or weak characters is weak in and of itself imo. The character are no more or less thought out than 98% of today's summer blockbusters. In fact, I'd say a bit more thought is put into them then most.

I am wondering, did anyone else find the movie extremely loud? I am wondering if it was just my theater. Because honestly, I can't remember such a loud film.

Funny you say this because every film I've seen this summer has been ridiculously loud. From Iron Man, to Man of Steel to Star Trek, and Fast 6 and World War Z. All of them were literally BOOMING almost the entire time. It's by far the loudest summer I've ever had. I think theaters are pumping up the volume for some reason.

There probably is something to that actually.
