Rockstar Red Dead Redemption

They could but I sure hope not, This is one of the games I want to be announced and shown at E3 the most!

If you look at the bottom left (click to zoom) you'll see the Great Plains, home to the Blackwater settlement that sits at the top right of the Red Dead Redemption map - so you can see how the two come together. The lack of a railroad in the Great Plains, which featured in RDR, also points to this being earlier in the timeline.

A source close to the development of the new Red Dead game has now confirmed to us that the map is indeed the real deal, revealing that this is a "very recent" art direction map for the upcoming title.

They also confirmed that the game will be set before the events of Redemption, and that the new map is just east of the one that featured in Red Dead Redemption.

Man if thats true thats awesome. Was hoping they'd go backwards in the timeline. I mean they couldnt really of gone any further. Really, really hope we get some solid info soon.

Uugghh.. I need it. RDR is still the best open world game ever for me..

Need a sequel to this game more than any other. The best game on the last gen for me, it had everything, atmosphere, setting, music, characters, story, DAT ending even the multiplayer was a really nice surprise and really well done, co-op and versus options galore.

A sequel/prequel on better tech just blows my mind at how awesome it could be. This is Rockstar though and they just dont make bad games, they just dont, its going to be great and I have no qualms about assuming that this early.

I wonder will the story resolve around Natives or Slaves? That seems to be the popular theme right now and I wouldn't mind the idea of playing Django Freeman/Marquis Warren type character.

I loved the multiplayer as well, for both RDR and Undead Nightmare. Undead was a super fun MP. That's the other thing too, Undead was an awesome DLC

Agreed 150%. I bought a PS4 because I know Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming eventually.

it sucks they never did a remaster bc the original is one that most definitely could have used one

Here's how the first game's map compares directly to this leaked map. Holy hell, if true.

God damn, and that isn't even the full RDR map but even still. New map is massive I love it.

RDR's map felt massive already but it was just so empty. That was fine but after a while it'd get boring just trotting the desolate landscape.

Despite it being set before I'd like to see more settlements and towns and larger ones too. I want to see a Blackwater almost as big as LA in GTA V (geographically maybe not nearly as densely populated).

^ It honestly didn't get boring trotting around to me at all. Loved exploring the amazing landscape and taking it all in. That's me though.

Boring is probably a stretch but I mean I played the game over a period of years on and off so I got quite used to the map I guess.

I still want to see more and larger settlements. I know the game had technical limitations the last time around but there were some fairly sized towns around during the period of the game out west.

I thought Blackwater should have been even bigger just to create a bigger clash between it and frontier.

A sequel could be difficult to do because the first game takes place at the very end of the old west and a great deal of the story is about the passing away of that era and the people like John Marston who populate it. It takes place in 1911. So I think it could be better for them to do a prequel of some kind, unless they want the third game to go in a different direction.

The American West wasnt heavily populated or built up at that time so it being desolate and having small sparse towns was how it was supposed to be. There was no town the size of present LA in the West in the 19th century. That would be anachronistic and absurd.

But since the map is bigger there most likely will be more towns, but I also bet there eill still be a lot of desolate open landscape and the towns and settlements will be not much bigger than the towns in RDR.

Well the game took place in 1911, my point was the towns felt really small even for the time period.

I meant the geographic size of Los Santos in GTA V not population density. Geographically it's not really all that massive, in the game I'm talking about again.

I like the open expanses I just want some larger towns and that would not be anachronistic really. Armadillo in the last game was like one road essentially. There were bigger towns than that.
