I thought the runtime was good as is, it didn't feel overlong, but I felt like it covers the appropriate bases.

I wish there was more of his Alex, but to be honest I got a lot more than I expected!

Hmm interesting about the debate about " Too long too short " , was it pacing issues then. How long was this film again 118 mins , something like that. I need to see this film again to be honest.

Yea I think your right. It is the pacing and what they chose to cover. The films length is great I feel, but they could have spent a little more time with the actual development of robocop, instead of jumping to 3 months.

I miss the gradual reveal and build up. They kinda just showed him lol.

Big fan of the original, but I liked this one too. That fight with the ED 209s was pretty badass.

I think a weakness is the lack of a good/memorable villain, and they're put down rather routinely without much of a fight. But the movie had a good pace. I was engaged throughout. Glad to see most people here enjoyed themselves.

I was disappointed with the "dead or alive, you're coming with me" line in the actual movie. It was soooo badass in the trailer and nothing like that in the movie.

I think they just filmed that scene separate for the trailer to connect this film with the original. I was kinda bummed too but if they do a sequel I can see them having him use his famous lines.

Thursday, February 13:

1. The LEGO Movie - $2,441,259
2. RoboCop - $2,136,914
3. The Monuments Men - $1,545,642

Oh, and I fought the law - and the law won. :awesome:

Weekend predictions according to Variety:

#1 “Lego,” with $80 million in its first week, is showing impressive staying power with a Friday projection around $13 million for a 4-day total ranging from $50 million to $60 million.

#2 Sony-Screen Gems’ “About Last Night” was turning in the best performance of the new entries with about $10 million on Friday for a 4-day cume of mid-to-high $20 millions for the ensemble comedy, led by Kevin Hart.

#3 The “RoboCop” reboot, starring Joel Kinnaman, took in $5 million on Wednesday and Thursday and appeared headed for a four-day total in the high teens — well below recent forecasts and a downbeat portent for a film that carries a $100 million price tag. The action film, a remake of the 1987 cop hit, has already grossed $40 million from 27 international markets.

#4 Universal’s “Endless Love” launched respectably with opening-day estimates from $5.6 million to $7 million. “Love,” which only cost $20 million, could finish the four days with nearly that amount already in the bank.

#5 Either Winter's Tale or Monuments Men

EDIT: Missed one

Maybe they should've made a movie based on Lego Movie's Bad Cop instead of Robocop. :oldrazz:

It baffles me as to why Sony decided to push Robocop back nearly a week instead of releasing it on February 7th like they originally intended to do. Nothing big was coming out on the 7th and Sony knew everybody was going to be flocking to the theaters to see romantic comedies and dramas for Valentines Day weekend.

Agree with the lack of Alex pre-Robocop and the construction of the Robocop.

And I think they lack some explanation for the bike too. Yeah it's a cool bike for Robocop, but a very short scene of introducing it won't hurt.

The LEGO Movie came out on Feb 7th. Would have been DOA

I don't know what half of you all are talking about. I didn't notice any cgi on his suit what so ever watching the film and I hate when I notice things like that. They did a perfect job on his cgi suit alterations.

Same here, I thought the suit alterations were flawless and I honestly wouldnt have know they did so much if Dark_b hadnt posted the article.

I hope the movie has good WOM because that opening weekend isnt looking too promising. The good thing is the movie opened number in a few foreign countries. And seems to be doing well here in Australia.

Box Office Mojo predicting less than $25 million for the weekend based on Wednesday grosses.

Variety's report from yesterday (taking into account Thursday/Friday numbers) projects high teens. So if it breaks $20 mil that'll be unexpected

I thought this was a pretty solid movie but the things I would change are;

The opening sequence about drones is haunting and engaging but pretty much goes away and that's a shame. It's a pretty powerful theme and they should have focused more on that.

The Murphy family. You are shown who they are but you aren't shown who they 'are', if that makes sense. It's like been shown a book cover and not what is on the pages. Also how Robocop can possibly be integrated back into a family dynamic isn't explored enough.

The 3rd act loses it's way somewhat and is somewhat 'wrote' but the ED 209 sequence is bad arse but it would have been better to tie the ending into one of the major themes of the movie. By comparison the original Robocop was about him regaining his humanity and the movie ends with 'Murphy', the movie comes together at the end but I didn't feel this movie did.

But all in all a MUCH better movie than I was expecting and far better than 99.9% of rubbish remakes that fail to justify their existence. It tries to be about something, has themes, and attempts to tell its own story rather than being a beat for beat PoS *cough* Total Recall *cough*

That aint good for a movie with a $100 million production cost. Hopefully it continues to do well overseas as that seems its only saving grace at the moment.

Think they would have been better releasing it next weekend, Robocop aint exactly a date movie. Hopefully in the US this gets really good WOM.

I liked it. Probably between an 7 or 8 for me. I just love how they delved into the politics and the realistic consequences of essentially having your body signed away to a corporation allowing them to do whatever they want.

The power, the control they'd have over you and the effect it has on everyone involved, including yourself. This movie defintely delved into stuff the original set of films never touched and I enjoyed it.

The action was okay. Nothing really to rave about. The acting was good. The story itself was pretty bare bones when on the surface but they get pretty deep in terms on an emotional level.

The one big criticism I have of the movie however is the lack of a "Hero shot" at the end of the film. I was kinda waiting for it with a cue of the original theme but it kind of just…ended.

if they do make sequels...they need to either bring in a new clarence boddicker...or some super-badass mech for robocop to contend with.

Introduce Dick Jones as the new heavy with a Clarence Boddicker character that's eventually transformed into a new bot ala Robocop 2.

Its a good way to kind of mesh certain aspects of the established canon in this new reboot.
