RoboCop Reboot - Part 7

I really did like Dredd quite a bit but I'll broadly state that a lot of the film including the direction looked pretty cheap, the budget showed in that movie.

The only part that looks "cheap" to me is his bike. The rest is extremely well done. The acting, directing and editing makes it quite the film.

Some of the action to me at least looked somewhat amatuer, but that's just my opinion.

The only thing i didn't like about Dredd was the CGI blood. Where were the ridiculous Verhoeven style blood squibs?

For the budget it had I thought it looked really good though. Cool production design and cinematography.

Yeah that was another element to add to my dislike for the cheap effects, but like I said overall I loved Dredd and can't wait to hear a confirmation about the sequel.

I did like Dredd but it lacked the spectale of the first movie.

I thought Dredd was amazing.

I saw Robocop the other night and I thought it was good. They did a good job of making it fresh and modern. It felt like it's own movie rather than a rehash or a remake.

Is the Novak Element version of the Robocop theme available anywhere? That was better than the title card version.

Agreed, thought the bike has grown on me over time as well, it was just a really well put together movie overall. And a sequel being made would be something truly special.

I think thats what I liked about the movie most, it had its own identity rather than being a straight re-make. And some of the ideas they came up with were superb, like the scene were they show whats left of him.

the more i think about it, the more i think what padhila and crew did was sorta brave.

they didn't try to ape verhoeven, nor did they try to make the same movie but with better special effects. that might've made some or more fans happy, but imo that would've been boring.

i like that they took the core concept of robocop and added new conflicts, political and philosophical debates to it.

^^ this

Those designs of the suit make the black suit look really amazing.
I liked it too. They could very easily revert back to the black suit, if a sequel ever gets off the ground. The silver and black designs are very interchangeable and the mechanical process of swapping is not hard at all.

Glad to see this movie bombing at the box office. Maybe studios can start coming up with new movies and get away from this horrible reboot trend of late.

Agreed, its a reason why so many have been pleasantly surprised with this movie IMO? They ran with their own ideas, while paying homage to the original in parts, and I am so glad they did.

Have you seen it Nell? Its actually quite good, better than the likes of Total Recall and Carrie easily.

i liked the few nods to the original, they didn't try to beat people over the head with too many throwbacks, that would've been too obvious or awkward.
i really liked it when murphy said "dead or alive, you're coming with me!" in this. because it was in a totally different context and meaning from the original, and that was witty.

Too bad it's a good movie for a change and doesnt deserve to bomb...

every movie that bombs in a way deserves to bomb. if people didnt watch it then it didnt make money.

ok a movie doesnt deserve to bomb when it has a bad realese date. and when you can compare it to a similar movie who made more money. since the studio changed their mind and moved it to januar they wanted januar numbers. since the studio had control over how this looks they wanted this kind of numbers.

this remake is 7/10 IMO. but it didnt need to exist.

they wanted a superhero comicbook type robocop movie. they could change the name and change some parts of the story to make it more unique and promote is an original movie. noone would have a problem. the ones who scream ''copy'' and ''stealing'' are idiots.

What the hell does that mean? What about Fight Club and Blade Runner? They bombed because they deserved to bomb?

they realesed the trailer and posters. they promoted the movie. people didnt care watching it in theater. it underperformed and bombed. years later they decided to watch it on tv and f... loved it. maybe it was the realese date or the marketing. maybe they needed to realese the movie on a different date and use different techniques to promote it.

just because a movie bombs at the BO that doesnt mean that its a bad movie.

This.

Honestly, one of the main reasons it "bombed" was the month its in.

It's a well known fact that films that release in February, other than comedies, don't ever do very well.

At least, compared to those released in the summer movie season.

This was an ok movie, better than the majority of CBMs discussed on this site. I hope the director has a long career.

Forbes - "'Robocop' And The Problem With PG-13"

Makes the argument that the rating choice was the real reason it didn't do as well as it could have. An interesting take. I've seen someone else make the same point that had it been rated R it wouldn't have been competing for the same demographic as The Lego Movie to the degree it did and which it had no chance at beating.

I would add to that argument that it would've met with less hate had it been rated R. That along with the black suit were the top two things people initially slammed it for.
