I'd say 8, only because every Joker pic we've been given is on an angle, or much of his face is obscured (love that Photoshop!), or they come from camera phones with ****ty resolution, etc., etc., etc.

The characterization, as noted before me, is definitely on the mark. They've really established the Joker as a threat through this viral marketing. More than that, they're having the Joker refer to death as a game, as something that's justified to no one else but himself. Flashes of the "Arkham Asylum" and "The Killing Joke" graphic novels come to mind. I think, so far, this Joker has encapsulated the type of vibe given off between those two comics - intelligent, sinister, and darker than previous incarnations. That's the #1 thing I love about this Joker (so far) - and I think viral marketing itself is one of the most effective, and innovative, advertising tools around today. I was beyond please to see Warner Bros. employ such a method as it relates to advertising.

Great googly moogly.

I may sound like too much of a peace monger to the ever-so-pseudo-intellectual-and-quick-witted fan boys, but I'm honestly pleased with the Joker thus far. At the very least, my concerns about Ledger's performance are completely gone. I think he will do Mr. J justice.

Dammit.

I'm hoping the next picture is a front shot of Joker smiling. That's what I'm waiting for the most in terms of Joker. The evil grin I think will make or break the look.

I hear that. I get the feeling they will save the first shot of The Joker w/his lavishly sinister grin for the trailer.

Sucks incredibly. You all should be ashamed.

9. I'm still a tiny bit hesitant to give it that 10 that I'll probably give when I see the movie.

Lipstick smearing =3
Chalky-white face =6
Revealing regular skin = 0
Suit and gloves = 10
Joker with a knife going to slit Ms. Dawes = 15

Looks like Escalation will take a new meaning here as well - let the negative clowns roll in............can't wait to kick your asses.

Just based off looks, I'd give it between a 5 or 6. Off characterization, definitely at least a 9.

So for now, it's around an 8. I'm crossing my fingers he's not a regular guy in clown make-up, because that'll really bring down the overall tone of the Joker for me, even if the other parts are nailed.

I agree totally. The appearance isn't the most aesthetically pleasing, but everything we've found out about his characterization so far is just about pitch perfect IMO. If it is in fact for sure that his skin is actually bleached and he's not just a dude in clown makeup, that will seal the deal for me. I even like Heath's awkward/creepy sounding voice; that voice definitely sounds like it belongs to a psychotic killer. And the new pic of Heath holding a knife to Maggie's throat shows us even more about just how ruthless Heath's Joker is going to be. This Joker is going to be downright vicious.

A - F**K - men, Milkman....

An absolute 15!
Been waiting for almost 20 years to see this character on the big screen again and portrayed by someone other than Jack and Tim. Nolan is doing on kick ass job of reaching the right fans and also drawing in some new ones. Ledger... I knew it from the second he was cast that this was the right choice, it just needed a second to manifest. The character of the Joker is being played out SO much more than a practicle jokerster from what we're used to in some comics and the animated series... Nolan/Ledgers vision of the Joker is turning out to be a true criminal "mastermind" and a true ruthless villain... from what i've seen it's only going to get better.
20 years in the making and it was worth every second of waiting

^ I totally agree. I like how Nolan is trying to maintain some sort of realism to the storyline. I look forward to seeing a darker and more violent portrayal joker on the big screen.

looks matter so much less than characterization, and the characterization has been spot on from the IBIHDT and WSS sites. however, i'm not completely comfortable seeing a picture of him holding a knife up to Rachel without a huge grin on his face. that doesn't seem very Joker-like to me.

I like him so far but I just can't vote until I see an extended performance by Ledger.

eh... maybe he had a smile on his face or is about to have one... if you look at the pic you can see his eyes are closed so carefree, like he's enjoying everysecond of it, which is almost as sinister as him haveing a smile

Maybe the Joker hasn't completely lost (his mind) it in TDK. Could Nolan be growing the character for the 3rd movie?
