Sequels Spider-Man 4 Writer Hired

For the last time, Spider-Man 4 in 2009 is not happening. There's just not enough time. Had Vanderbilt been hired over the summer, then an '09 release would have been possible. But now, especially with the strike, it just isn't feasible.

Here's to Captain America and Spider-Man being at least 2 months (and hopefully a year) apart.

Cap and Spidey in the same year would be like Batman and Superman in the same year...just not smart.

Excellent news! I'd like to see it out by '09 but we'll see what happens with that. But good to see some progress, now I just want to know who the villains will be, and if Raimi is returning.

Zodiac writer, interesting choice, I wonder if they'll try to get David Fincher too.

Finally some news. Vanderbilt seems like a great choice. Zodiac was one of my favorite films of the year. I'm sure it won't be a let down. I would love to see SM4 realesed in 2009, but I think 2010 is the safer bet.

Yeah, 2009 is preserved for James Cameron's Avatar. No other film will be released that year. I will make sure of that.

Fincher wouldn't be a bad director. Fight Club, Panic Room Se7en and of course Zodiac. I haven't seen Alien 3 in a long time so I don't really know how that was.

I've never watched Zodiac. I've heard good things about it. Let's hope this guy writes a decent story.

Yeah, most of his films are solid, although I'm not fond of his Alien movie, he's a really good director.

James Vanderbilt, eh? Sounds good to me!

Personally, I wouldn't mind if Spidey 4 is released in 2009, BUT it has to be damn good. I don't want a rush-job on this movie. I'd rather wait until 2010 for a quality movie than not wait for a crappy movie.

I honestly don't see how they can make a 2009 release date, I was hoping for 2011, but I'd settle for 2010. 2009 is much too soon, just a little over a year. The only movie I know that can do that is Harry Potter. Don't ask me how, but they do.

My heart skipped a beat when I opened the shh main page XD

I have no idea who this guy is =_=
Oh well, hopefully sony knows what they're doing
and...what's this strike everyone is talking about?
sorry if it's a stupid question ^_^

First things first, I'm glad we've got news on a writer but come on, Jimmy boy doesn't exactly have that much of an impressive track record well to me at least anyway. Zodiac was decent but by no means a great piece of story telling. I'm surprised many of you are screaming out, "he wrote zodiac, so he'll be awesome"! If he had a much more impressive body of work I could definitely understand but he doesn't. Also, he's writing wolverine?? There isn't even a script review so we have no idea just how good he is at adapting stories for a comic book movie. I suppose the next step for me to really get excited is to find out which 2 villains we're getting but until then, I'm reserving judgment until we know more......and there's no way in hell this movie's coming out in 2009, it's just not gonna happen, folks.

This is amazing news,a great writer,it's gonna have lots of good character development, and it comes out in 09.

The reason why this movie would come out in 2009 instead of in 2010 is because it wouldn't need the heavy special fx that SM3 needed, with there being three villains in that movie, where two of those villains rely on heavy fx which is very time consuming.

And on the SHH main page it says that the story is guarded by the studio, but it will have two villains instead of three of them in it,which is another reason why this movie doesn't need to take three years to make.

Finally some real news on this movie. Now all I need to see is confirmation on Raimi's return, and I'm hyped.

When they say it's gonna have two villains in it,because there gonna focus more on the characters than the CGI,like what they did in SM3 that could be proof that one of the villains will probably not even need it hardly, like Kraven,(He doesn't need CGI for his appearance and he doesn't need CGI for his powers)and it is also the reason why the movie can come out in 2009,rather than in 2010.(And it wouldn't be rush)

Remember it took them only two years to make SM3,that extra year was because of all of the special fx for it.

Vanderbilt apparently was chosen by Sony executives for his character-driven approach to the story rather than a focus on special effect

Man, this sounds really promising. Sure we all love those special effects scenes. But if they keep the emphasis on characters and story telling, then this could be produced in the $100-$150 million budget with a whole new cast.

I am all for a new trilogy with a new cast and director.

Some might cringe at the possibility of new cast and new director, but it's like when the new creative team takes over the comics title, we may not like everything about it, but it's always a good fresh approach.

$100-$150 million?? I doubt they'll scale the buget down that far. We're probably looking at $200m.

While this may be great for confirming SM4, if the cast don't come back, they may as well just start the series over.. As for this 'more character devlopment' comment, the Spider-Man movies have done enough development, SM1 and 2 were fine, they only dropped the ball with Venom/Symbiote Spider-Man..

They may just pull a Hulk and reboot it.

I wonder...
... how Raimi feels that the story is entirely in hands of someone else...
... if they decided on villains already, before ordering the script...

Well Darkness Falls was pretty mucha low budget film.
The Rundown was produced by Vince McMahon. Nuff said.

They were also both 4 years ago.

I'm willing to bet he has matured. I also think he's one of those writers that can thrive on source material as opposed to writing something out of thin air. It sure worked for him in Zodiac.

You didnt like the Rundown? I thought that was the Rock's best movie.
