Sequels Spider-Man 4 Writer Hired

Man, this sounds really promising. Sure we all love those special effects scenes. But if they keep the emphasis on characters and story telling, then this could be produced in the $100-$150 million budget with a whole new cast.

I am all for a new trilogy with a new cast and director.

Some might cringe at the possibility of new cast and new director, but it's like when the new creative team takes over the comics title, we may not like everything about it, but it's always a good fresh approach.

That sentence right there that you quoted is almost a gurantee that Raimi will return. He's always saying that he wants a character driven film and has wanted that for a long time.

If Spider-Man 2 could come out two years after the realease of its predecessor, then I have no problem believing 4 will come out in 2009.

Still need to see Zodiac, but im all for a change of writing after Spider-Man 3.

Hmmm, a 2009 release date makes me think that they're confident they can bring everyone back. The time frame is going to be so compressed to make a mid-09 release, I don't see how they could go through the whole craziness of finding a new Spidey/MJ/director in such a short time.

Isn't Dylan Baker already signed for SM4? So there's one villain they don't even need to negotiate with!

Zodiac is a kick ass movie. This should be interesting & I am sure that even with the strike he will still write more then one script. He just will not be able to sell it to the studio.

I think Kraven is a pretty good bet, considering who is doing the writing. Stalking Spidey for the entire movie would be pretty interesting. Venom was supposed to do that, but they never fully captured it.

Well the diference here is that they started to work on SM-2 IMMEDIATELY after the first one. While in this case we got about 6 months of down time, strike issues (even if the writer was hired, he can't start to work on it yet) and no idea if the cast or director are coming back.

There's no way in hell they're gonna release this on 2009 (it was just for show, like with the Transformers 2 release date). Maybe 2010...just maybe.

That, and they said they are going for more character driven than special effects...

I loved Spider-Man 3, but I'm anxious to see a more character-driven plot ala Spider-Man 2. I'm glad they're not totally rebooting it, as nothing is really broken, but I do want to see some more Peter Parker and Spider-man...with maybe one or two STRONG villians.

Either way, looking forward to Spider-Man 4 in '09!!

I hope they don't make it overfilled with villians and plotholes like 3 was.

Didnt it say in the report they are limiting it to 2 villains?

That is a step in the right direction for me.

I've waited my whole life to see Spider-Man's big screen adventures. So I don't want to have to wait any more than I have to to see the next one!

Bring on a 2009 release.

I want to see The Lizard. I want to see the people of NY turn their backs on Spidey. And I want to see an MJ with some goddamn curves!!

^The third thing, not so much. Most actresses they look for to fill the comic roles usually are of the toothpick variety.

Also if Tobey Maguire could slim down or tone up abit, if he's returning to the role. That would be much appreciated too

I am leaning towards SM4 being a stand alone movie, and this won't be an intended trilogy (much like the previous films). I hope we hear if Raimi and co are coming back soon (if this is to have a 2009 release, I think they intend on them returning...I think they would take their time on recasting and getting things right, so if 2009 is the target, I think they want everyone back).

This news is great. I think he is a good choice for writer, and this leans me to believe SM4 will bring everyone back.

Well, being the writer of Zodiac is definitely a strong credit, and thank God they don´t want to put too many villains again and intent to keep a strong focus on characters.

I'm all for character-driven stories but sm2 was just dull and boring. The playing out of drama just wasn't captivating nor exciting or had that suspensful feel. I actually hope we get a new direction and not just some next logical step for Peter. I want an exciting story playing out and not some dragged out bore fest.

Honestly, when I read the comments of people who say they watch sm2 all the time, I am seriously socked and amazed...its facinating to me because that film is just so dry to me.

btw this is what the guy we're talking about looks like :)

SM2's middle act is a bit dull. But I am all for a scaled back Spidey flick if we're still getting two villains and more character development.

This movie will top SM3 big time which will get a SM5 greenlit right away.

What do you think if, following SM3, we get Peter and MJ working things out, but friends, not a couple... Maybe a single Parker could be a better choice, specially if Gwen is back in the story...

He needs to be tapping Betty Brant. I bet she could teach him a few things.
