Sequels Spider-Man 4 Writer Hired

Dylan Baker already signed for Spider-Man 4, so there's one villain. I think Venom is a pretty good bet, considering who's doing the writing. Venom stalking Spider-Man the entire movie would be interesting.

That's a step in the right direction for me. Now all we need is the same cast.

I haven't heard anything of Dylan Baker signing for SM4. Is there a link?

Venom, you've gotta be kiddin,' it's all classics or nothing. We've seen the symbiote and Venom, they would be crazy to step foot in another symbiote story. Seriously Venom fans, move the hell on.

Just checked the link again.. It's now a 2010 release..

There was never any doubt that this movie would come out in 2010. 2009 was just fanboy wishful thinking. Besides, 2009 is jam-packed.

You make a good point. The idea of seeing Venom on the bigscreen again isn't going to make a Spider-Man 4 a must see. Most of the general public would probably say "We've already seen him"

I think a good Venom story would've worked as stand alone feature film. But since Sony insisted Venom appear in Spidey 3, the weakest of the 3 films, they pretty much killed that possibility.

As a fan I'd rather see a story focusing on Vulture, Kraven, Lizard, Scorpion, or even Mysterio instead of a 2nd Venom appearance.

What do you think if, following SM3, we get Peter and MJ working things out, but friends, not a couple... Maybe a single Parker could be a better choice, specially if Gwen is back in the story...

Agreed. I'd start the film by saying neither Pete or MJ was/is ready for marriage. MJ could be off doing a play somewhere else in the country and Peter is focusing on his studies. I don't know if another round of Kirsten Dunst playing a MJ is what the franchise needs if it wants to stay fresh. I wouldn't bring her back. However, if you could recast the role a new actress could bring more vitality to the role.

If MJ were left out of Spidey 4, I'd bring back Bryce Howard if possible and focus on Gwen Stacy. If you couldn't get her to come back I'd recast the role or see if I could work Felicia Hardy into the story somehow, even if she didn't appear as the Black Cat. You could even introduce Liz Allen because at this point the movie continuity is far removed from the comic continuity. After 3 films I don't know if pairing Peter with Betty would be all that interesting. But, in the hands of the right writer maybe even that could work.

Well I doubt this will happen until 2010 simply because of the WGA strike next year and Sony has to either pay the exorbant amount of money to get Raimi, Tobey and Kirsten back or recast (which would make the delay even longer).

But I'm not i na hurry. 2010 sounds fine. But I must admit, the potential of seeing Lizard (FINALLY!) on screen, as he is my favorite villain, does bring a smile to my face. Anyway, I personally hope Raimi and co. come back for this last one (for them) but at least Sony is moving forward. And this is better news than Koepp writing it, as his draft I read for SM1 sucked.

The WGA strike could happen tomorrow, their contract has already expired.

Though I hated Spidey 3 (actually not hated, but was about to kill everybody who was working on such piece of s***), I am very surprised that such good screenwriter as Vanderbilt is hired for another sequel. While Rundown was dumb action-packed flick, Zodiac became one of the best 2007 thrillers. So I can't really be sure if the movie fails or not, as it all depends on director/producer.

Um, I don't know how to break this to you, but what others were disappointed in doesn't concern me. What I like is all that counts to me.

So, it's still your disappointment.

Any time!

Wrong. It's a lot of people's disappoinment. You being one of the exceptions. You make a freaking pole on it in here and you find I am right. Fine, you don't care what others disappointments are. But I was talking about the majority. You are not in the majority.

Touche.

Are you girls finished about your disappointments, damn saps?

That panel of dialogue always made me laugh. Spidey jokingly talks about falling in love and kraven wants to rip his hide off....LMAO! the unintended homosexual undertone is very entertaining.

i want raimi back in the directors seat, all of the cast back in their respective roles (everybody), and a good solid 4th installment that shows them get married and a satisfying final swing reminiscent of the first ones close camera

so everything going on with this writers strike... does that mean they are going to have a completed script for part 4 before that takes place? as long as it happens no later than 2010 and theres a solid script i'll be happy (along with my above 'demands' lol)

Let's just wait and see, they really need to announce what they're going to do, so we all can simmadownnow.

I really don't want Raimi returning as Director. I see the Spidey movies at a crossroads. Much like the Batman franchise was back in '95, and we all know where that ended up.

You thought Spidey 3 was embarrassing with all the dance numbers, 70's strutting and emo hair flicks? With Raimi as Director, I see a Spider-Man 4 where MJ has to be rescued for the fourth time, Peter spends even less time with his mask on than he did before and a campy Mysterio is the villain. Who we're supposed to take seriously.

While we're at it. I want a new Peter and MJ cast too. Watching the out takes/gag reel on the Spidey 3 DVD recently, I got the impression that Tobey and Kirsten weren't really as invested into making the third film as they might have been the others.

So i'm calling for new (radioactive) blood for the next movie. Raimi and the crew had their trilogy. Now let's see someone else's take on the web-slinger.

And what if the fourth movie with a new director and new cast turns out even worse???

Peter spends even less time with his mask on than he did before

Why do people always attribute this to Raimi? Taking Peter's mask off is a studio decision. Get a new director and it's even less likely that you'll get a constantly masked Spider-Man.

Thats an obvious risk when making any movie. According to the majority of most of Raimi's fans sm1 and 2 were awesome yet with the same cast and crew behind 3, they thought 3 sucked.
