I hope so too. Her interactions with Scotty are golden.

Spock
Spock died off screen and it prompted a sort of crisis for young Spock. He had already broken up with Uhura because he had to think about prolonging his race and Prime Spock's death only inflamed that idea. In the end I think he decided to stay and they will probably be back together.

Krall - don't read unless you want BIG PLOT SPOILERS

Krall used to be Captain Edison, a Star Fleet captain of the USS Franklin - just after the birth of the Federation. His ship crashed on this planet but they couldn't signal the Federation because of space interference. The indigenous species of that planet had long died but it was home to some super weapon he wants to use and get revenge on the Federation for abandoning them. This species also developed some treatment to prolong life by sucking it out of others but taking on the lives of other races warped Edison's own appearance which is why he looks alien / but he changes over the course of the movie.

I was a big fan of ST:ENT and this movie has a few nuggets from there and that era of Star Trek.

I would say Pegg's script was decent - the movie could have been tighter but everyone got a good moment or two.

As someone who actually likes the Spock/Uhura romance, I hope that it stays. It doesn't need to be huge part of the narrative all the time, but it can just be there regardless.

I think they are the OTP of this franchise for sure. there is a little running joke in the movie concerning a necklace he gave her - you'll see - bones's reaction to it are hysterical.

I wonder if they'd ever have them get married at some point? It'd be kind of poetic considering the fact that Spock's dad married a human women (two in the old timeline).

Also as an aside, Pegg and Lin have to be feeling pretty good about themselves right now. Considering all of the knee-jerk complaining and pessimism that they had to put up.

So I gotta ask,
What does the new Enterprise-A look like at the end of the film? Spare no details, total starship design nerd.

Cool !?

I unfortunately am not a starship design nerd so someone else who pays more attention to that sort of thing will have to answer. Looks similar to the old one to me, but I might be off base. All I know is that USS Franklin looked similar or maybe the same as the Enterprise in ST:ENT.

But you will love the fact that the movie ends with a time lapse sequence of the construction of the new Enterprise. It was quite something, with the TOS theme playing in the background and all the characters getting a line in the famous "these are the voyages ..." speech.

Enterprise A?! Knew it!

How does it look? Is it the reboot design or did they make some new improvements to it? And did we see it in the trailer already?

Box Office: ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Warps Toward $55 Million Debut
The new film is an expensive one, carrying an $185 million production budget.
Brent Lang said:
It’s been a rough few months for Paramount Pictures.

Not just because films like “Zoolander 2” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows” fell flat at the box office. The venerable studio has been engulfed in the ongoing corporate fight over the future of its parent company, Viacom.

The company’s CEO Philippe Dauman is selling a minority stake in Paramount, a move that controlling shareholder Sumner Redstone and his daughter Shari Redstone, oppose. So things must be a little awkward on the lot.

But help, or at least a Starship Enterprise-sized distraction, is on the way. The studio is bringing “Star Trek Beyond” into theaters, launching the third film in the rebooted sci-fi series across 3,800 locations, including 391 Imax venues. The latest in the long-running franchise is expected to pull in a solid $55 million, with some analysts projecting it could hit $60 million.

That should be enough to top the weekend box office, but it is down from the $70.2 million launch of 2014’s “Star Trek Into Darkness” and the $75.2 million bow of 2009’s “Star Trek.” The latest voyage sees Justin Lin (“Fast & Furious 6”) take over the directing reins from J.J. Abrams, who is still a producer after helming the two previous films.

Paramount clearly believes that audiences are still eager to follow the Enterprise crew on more deep space adventures. It already announced a sequel, which will bring back Chris Hemsworth as Kirk’s father, and is backing a new television series.

“It’s definitely a bright spot for Paramount,” said Shawn Robbins, senior analyst at BoxOffice.com. “There’s still momentum left in the franchise.”

To those who have seen it, how is Krall as a villain (no spoilers, please)?

Is he as good as Cumberbatch's Khan? Has he got personality or he is more of a generic type of villain? What about the action?

Thank you.

I think I just saw that big spoiler in that tv spot.

God dammit, why the hell would they release that?!!!! I'm pissed.

I'm actively avoiding any TV spots from this movie until I see it. I've been lucky enough to miss the spoilery one (I think).

I found Krall's presence weaker then new Khan, but that's me. His backstory is really interesting but that whole part of the movie was underdeveloped for me. Others may feel differently.

That was fun 8/10. Better than Into Darkness, not as good as the first.

This film is the most faithful to the overall Star Trek franchise. It feels much more like the TV series did. I love the new uniforms, they are much more reminiscent of TOS.

The biggest thing I appreciated is that Kirk is Kirk here. The first film made sense for Kirk having an arc on finding out who he is, and growing through the immaturity. This Kirk very much seems like a guy who would be in command of a Starship. Pine did a fabulous job.

Great interactions with Kirk and Bones, and Bones and Spoc. This is the first of this film series where you get a sense of the big three, and their interactions. While I loved the first two films and I loved Karl Urban's interpretation of the charater, I thought Abrams grossly misused his character, as the guy to throw in a quip every once in a while.

Saddest of all, there is a great part for Chekov in this film and it's heartbreaking that Yelchin was taken so young and we won't get to see futher exploration of this character.

There are nice tributes in the credits to Nimoy and to Yelchin.

Krall is a bit of a deeper villain than Nero was, but not as good as Cumberbatch's Khan. There is a good backstory and a good tie in to the rest of the Trek franchises.

Couple of spoilers:

Yes the Enterprise is destroyed. Yes they get a new one, telegraphed by the Commodore saying "the only ship more advanced than yours is the one that we're still building" NCC-1701-A. I was a bit dissapointed in destorying the Enterprise in that it's so cliche, when they destroyed it in Star Trek III, it had real meaning and consequence, although there is a bit of a throwback to the first film and what George Kirk had to face and Jim Kirk faced with the same situation

The tie ins with Star Trek Enterprise are nice. I think Enterprise was a great show that doesn't get near the respect it deserved, and nice to see a tip of the hat here.

This new cast has broken the barrier for the ratio of good to bad Trek films. I've loved every single one of them, and outside of Wrath of Khan and First Contact, these three films are better than the rest, which simply didn't stand the test of time.

For a film series, these three will endure for a time but Star Trek will always primarily be remembered for the TV series and the two aforementioned films.

This is a fantastic cast, and it's so heartbreaking knowing they've lost one of their own. This cast is as close as the Next Generation cast was, who have kept in touch for all the years since that show went off the air, and their chemistry has been prevalent through all these series.

I hope this film does well, but I know that this franchise just doesn't draw the way Star Wars does. I at least hope it does as well as the first of the Abram's films.

My rankings:

Star Trek 2009 - 9.5/10
Star Trek Into Darkness - 8/10
Star Trek Beyond - 9/10

Michael Giacchino's score is on spotify!:awesome:

I just saw it and....it was fun but I liked the first two better. With all the high praise and rave reviews I guess I went in with inflated expectations and was expecting to be blown away and instead it seemed like kind of a by the numbers flick. Nothing surprised me or made me go "oh s*** that's awesome!" Nothing really caught my attention and made this movie stand out for me, it was just a serviceable sci-fi adventure movie and I think, honestly, that's all it was trying to be.

It's not the movie's fault, in this day and age with all the myriad of big budget, cgi filled blockbuster films, its becoming harder to stand out and impress. I know it seems like I'm being hard on the movie, I still really like the characters and their chemistry, but the story and action set pieces just seemed kind of "been there, done that" nothing special.

To be fair though, I am not a Star Trek fan, so a lot of the nuance and references probably went over my head. I really enjoyed the firs two JJ Abrams films though.

A fun movie, but unimpressive, imo.

7/10

I think 1/10 Dude ate some Mushrooms and watched homeless men fight.

I really liked it, this franchise definitely has a spicier, sharper action flavor, but I like that it is still very true to the characters.

The New girl was interesting, the villain engaging with a set purpose, and plenty of spaceship porn. As stated above in spoilers, the end scene is awesome, as is the destruction and visual FX. Kind of reminded me of someone taking a script of an original 60's episode they couldn't film due to budget, and did it now.

8/10

So
what does the new Enterprise-A look like
?

Fun but nothing new. I dunno, the cast really elevates the material and makes it work but the story isn't anything particularly great. Tons of action. Krall was ok. I have to say though, the cgi got butt-ugly at times.
