Star Trek Sequel - Part 1

I hope we get to see Janice Rand and Christine Chapel in the film.

I hope to see them too, and any other of these characters who played small roles in the series before - eg Lieutenant Kyle, Dr MBenga or these various female yeomans or science officers.

BTW is Star Trek Into Darkness actually confirmed as the official title? Wikipedia keeps changing their entry back to "Untitled Star Trek sequel" as if it is just rumour.

When we were first getting our future history told to us in TOS, I'm fairly sure nobody thought it would still be going strong in 2012... :)

The Cold War must have been really, really frightening for people at the time, if they expected the world to be devastated by the 1990s.

Thankfully, it was not war, but the economic plans laid out by that same generation that has led to devastation in our time.

I'd love to see Kyle and M'Benga, they were great characters, despite not getting a lot of screen time.

I was not quite 2 years old when Star Trek first aired, so I don't know much, first hand that is, about the early years of the Cold War. But I do recall learning about the Cuban missile crisis and how many Americans really thought that World War III was about to happen. That must have been harrowing for all concerned.

Of course that happened a few years before TOS, but hopefully you get my point.

Did Kyle show up in ST:TMP or one of these early films?

I remember M'Benga treating even McCoy in The Deadly Years, and he was also slapping Spock around once when Chapel couldn't bring herself to do it properly. I forget which episode that was.

He was a member of the Reliant crew in TWOK. He even survived that, apparently. The red shirt that could never die.

Maybe inspired by him Starfleet years later decided that Red would be command. ;)

The mustard shirts in TNG never did bite the dust so easily.

The command red wasn't really as red as the original series red. And certainly the yellow was now mustard and the blue wasn't light blue like the original but a much darker colour. In fact, I wish we did see more blue in TNG but they seemed almost marginalised when the colour was so prominent in TOS with Spock and McCoy.

I hope they stick to these original colours in the new Star Trek movie and don't start moving back towards something like either ST:TMP or ST:TWOK.

Ya...it was a joke lol. Mainly it was the fabric used as well, the red is darker, so is the blue, and even the yellow in TNG/DS9/Voyager era. The blue is more...greenish in TNG I would say.

But ya it was a joke lol.

I know it was a joke. I was just using it as a springboard to make some observations about the hues of the later shirts, not saying anything in contradiction to it or anything.

I wonder if Rachel Nichols will return as Gaila in “Star Trek Into Darkness”?

I hope so. I want to see more Orion Slave Girls. They've never had a main part in any of the series, just sporadic cameo roles. Hopefully she'll actually dress as one during her off-duty hours. Instead of a scene with Uhura singing (like in Charlie X) we could have a scene with Gaila doing one of her slave girl dances for the crew.

she got on one the ships that was not the enterprise and they where all destoryed.

Gaila was assigned to the Farragut wasnt she? That ship was destroyed ergo, she most likely bought the big one.

Hopefully Kirk persuaded someone to beam her off the ship onto the Enterprise or elsewhere... nevermind about the rest of that crew. :oldrazz:

Typical Kirk move:

"Okay, escape pods are reserved for me and doable chicks only."

"Whoa, whoa, not you, Dr. Marcus. I see your baby bump there. Gross. Put on this red shirt and stay behind."

In all seriousness though, I'm sure they could find a way to say that Gaila escaped to safety. Maybe the crew of that ship did send out escape pods or began beaming crewmembers elsewhere. It shouldn't be too difficult to find a way for her to survive.

We do need Orion Slave Girls in Starfleet in the new ST films. If not Gaila then another girl. I do wish there were one as a permanent crew member. Maybe one of Kirk's yeomans.

I like me some Orion slave girls

Something about the green... ;)

GAILA: Phew! Thank god most of the us in the Farragut crew managed to get to our escape pods right before our ship was destroyed! Now we're all safe here on the surface of the planet Vulcan! :)

Looks up at the sky and sees the red matter drill.

GAILA: I've wasted my life. :(

Spock might've saved her from Vulcan. Didn't they evacuate a number of Vulcans before the planet was destroyed, and some whom we didn't see before Spock went down himself. Therefore Gaila could've been among the evacuees.

Or Kirk could've beamed her to the Enterprise to his quarters, conveniently leaving her Starfleet uniform behind on the Farragut. I'm not sure though if the transporter allows for beaming one out of their clothes.

Dude, come on, hot green naked chicks can die just like anyone else. You got to come to terms with this man, she gone. :(

"Star Trek Into Darkness"

Yeah, as much as I'm sure I'll enjoy the movie, I'm having a tricky time coming to terms wwith that name...
