Endgame made about as much money in its global opening as TLJ did in its entire run.

To be fair Endgame is truly a culmination of a ten year plan. The newest SW trilogy clearly didn’t have an architect for this new saga.

TROS is supposed to be the end o the Skywalker saga and that never had a complete game plan either.
Endgame is just a different beast altogether. Not a fair comparison when you look at all of it.

TROS could definitely have been doing Endgame numbers in the US and its other traditional markets with the right content across the trilogy.

One of the reasons the Avengers and Lion King teasers scored so high in views is because of the ads Disney puts in front of them. Those ads count as additional views. So the numbers are skewed in their favor. Star Wars never has such ads in its teasers or trailers, so the 111 Million views is far more accurate.

Really don't understand why they went back to the empire (new order) as the big bad. Give us something new. We've been seeing heroes fight storm troopers for 40 years.

For me, (due to my age, I'd imagine) seeing a SW film on the big screen is a must, similar to what the kids feel about the MCU today I'd guess, regardless of possible quality, that title logo, the Fox fanfare and the crawl are all tied to what has been a 'life journey' for me and this culmination in December is what Endgame is for many MCU fans out there.

The teaser was in front of my EG screening yesterday and it just felt magical seeing it on the big screen, SW has the ability to make have that New Hope on big screen 'first time watch' feeling every time.

I'll never count a Star Wars movie out of anything when it comes to box office numbers... It has a puncher's chance of becoming the biggest movie of all time... But only that. If the movie is anything short of the best Star Wars movie of all time I don't see this beating TFA let alone the other big 3 above it.

Star Wars has that potential though. It'll gross more than TLJ, but could finish anywhere from 1.4B - 3B that's how powerful the franchise is.

This film is gonna end up doing huge. Response to the trailer was overwhelmingly positive, causing immediate speculation and I think with this being the final film in the trilogy, it's gonna do huge! I'm so ready.

And judging by a lot of the leaks, this film is sounding more and more like a crowd pleaser in the best way possible. I'd say it has a chance at being the best Star Wars film ever, which is obviously my opinion, but it is possible. Force awakens is in my top 3!

Look at how many fans went apenuts over Rogue One. People wanted nostalgia and a mix of something new. They wanted more adventures of Luke, Han and Leia and their children or something along those lines.

They could have had that with a new enemy to face other than going back to the empire again. A new threat a new challenge. Hand over to the next generation. What they gave us was basically tearing up the ot. Luke han and leia weren't victorious, their lives turned out miserable and the empire came back with a bigger weapon and retook the galaxy. Thanks a lot.

I’m desperate for new stuff in the films like we’ve had in the EU and Clone Wars. It’s 2019 and the leading sci-fi fantasy epic/space opera should have more variety. Nearly all the characters are human still. Maybe I’ve been spoiled by last gen Mass Effect.

If it was the best Star Wars movie ever I think it would have a chance of beating TFA in the US and some European markets. I don’t think it would make much difference to its prospects in Asia where people without nostalgia for the series have given the new films a chance and pretty much decided no. I don’t see them giving RoS a chance unless it has an all out action trailer.

I wondered this before TFA dropped: can SW be more than just Jedi vs Sith and Rebels vs. Empire, and can they sell this to the general audience? Its a big question Lucasfilm has yet to answer.

I don't think anything they come up with will please all the fans. Count me as one who loved TLJ and thought the fanservice of Rogue One was too much in the wrong direction.

Yeah crazy stuff if TLJ had gotten better reception I think this movie would do crazy numbers like around what end game is doing.

Not sure about the leaks I stay away from that stuff but I think based of the trailer a lot of people thought TLJ would be the best star wars movie ever. I known I did it ended up being my 4th favorite though. TFA is my 2nd favorite.

I'm guessing small success at best, full flop at worst. General audiences just don't give a you-know-what about this franchise anymore. There was a surge of hype surrounding the teaser, but it blew over and disappeared very quickly. People are reporting dead silence during the trailer when it played in front of Endgame. We're living in a day and age where a Star Wars movie is on the list of the biggest flops ever. Even Lucasfilm realizes the dire state of the franchise, because they cancelled all future movies and put the series on hiatus. This whole brand is hanging on by a thread, and a JJ Abrams movie isn't going to be the one to save it.

Bruh... what? I mean really? "Small success at best" ? lol. I read that post and I was really confused, then I saw who it was by and then it made sense.

I updated my teaser views table (suggestions and corrections welcome). Took me a while to find the April 2015 SW teaser stats for a better WW April vs. April vs. April comparison.

I think ROS will be big no doubt ,but I'm not sure it will be Endgame earth shattering big. As someone had stated in reference to it, Endgame was basically the film of the decade, while SW, a juggernaut, doesn't have the same worldwide cultural impact of the MCU right now, fair or not.

Domestically , i.e. the US , its different I think , but Endgame is almost like one of those generational , cultural event films much like the original SW 1977.

I'm skeptical ROS is gonna be that , but yeah, everyone and their grandmother is gonna wanna see how the Skywalker Saga ends.

The whole world was excited for tfa. It just wasn't as good as many hoped. Then a lot of people didn't like tlj.

If those two films had been better the rise of skywalker would be more anticipated by more people.

The world may have been excited for TFA, but when we're talking about worldwide interest, including Asia, The MCU is a bit more popular from what I gather.

I think that has less to do with the quality of the last few SW films and more to do with The MCU having the advantage of being a younger, malleable , with more of a global appeal franchise than SW is. SW is also something that's sort have been passed down to generation after generation, while the MCU is something in which a whole new generation literally grew up in realtime with the films.

That's not to say SW isn't popular worldwide, because it is. I just don't think you're going to have the same overwhelming "This is a historic, cultural, milestone that you must see" type of event film Avengers Endgame has become, with The Rise of Skywalker as far as the global audience is concerned.

I think come December there will totally be alot of interest. Its early still, and right now people are focused on Marvel's achievement , and rightfully so imo.

SW fans will still be at each others throats as usual, but I think the GA is really gonna be hyped once December rolls around.
