The Force Awakens Star Wars VII Director? - Part 1

Is Neill Blomkamp still in the running to direct? He's probably my first choice, out of all the names I've seen being tossed around.

Eh, it was all right. He doesn't strike me as having a trademark style.
Most directors who have made comic book films don't have a singular aesthetic style, other than old Tim.

We've hardly had a Michael Mann or a Terrence Malick direct these films.

Even though I think most directors have a little bit of their own style (not hyper style like Malick or Burton...I would not put Mann there that's for sure). but Star Wars should not really have a director injecting too much of their own style into it. Star Wars has a style already. Of course which ever director it will be will have his own trademarks instilled in the film, that will give it it's own flavor. But in the big scheme of things Star Wars does not need a "style" it's already had it since the 70's.

I would. He is one of the most visually oriented directors in Hollywood. His style is instantly recognizable. I need to see only a single shot to tell that it's a Mann film.

Im a Mann fan I didn't like his last two films. Unless we can get 'Heat' Mann instead of 'Public Enemies' or 'Miami Vice (film)" Mann, I'm going to have to say no.

I actually really like Public Enemies. I just wish he'd stop shooting movies on his iPhone.

No to what? Miami Vice is probably his most visual movie, whether you like the film or not. It's Mann boiled down to his very essence. In fact, this century has seen Michael Mann dropping conceits of classical narrative storytelling and become a visualist interested more in mood and style. Sort of like Malick; except where Malick is interested in framing man against the grace of nature, Mann is interested in framing man against the oppression of structures.

Mann directing Star Wars? A resounding **** no to that. Mann takes great ideas and just makes them boring to watch. Yes, that includes Heat.

No Malick either, please. I don't think anyone here was seriously suggesting him, but just... no. :o

And my oppression of structures says nay to Mann, little lamb!

mann would be better suited for DD honestly imagine daredevil shot like collateral!!

Oh I see. You think I want Mann to direct this. My first post regarding Mann, which was in response to somebody else about something else entirely:

Most directors who have made comic book films don't have a singular aesthetic style, other than old Tim.

We've hardly had a Michael Mann or a Terrence Malick direct these films.

As you can see, I didn't say Mann or Malick should direct anything regarding Star Wars. This isn't even on the previous page. It was at the beginning of this one.

At the very mention of Mann's name as a possibility associated with something I love, I'll automatically relinquish into fury.

I love Mann, but he should stick to procedural films. Hell, I'm sure his version of Zero Dark Thirty would've been great.

We all know prep time can accomplish anything.

10 days of January left Ms. Kennedy, we're waiting.

Still no news? I've been away from the Star Wars forum since mid December. Thought we would have had something by now.

I don't deny Vaughn did a great job with the little time he was given. I mean 10 months to do a film and it turned out to be that good? Sure it was good. It just didn't impress me like it did other people. I still prefer X1 and X2.

Yeah some people treated it like the most amazing thing ever...well...you know. X1 and X2 are still the best in my eyes. But I think Vaughn could do really good, I've been itching to check out Stardust for years.
