The Dark Knight Rises TDKR Oscar Chances? - Part 1

Imo, it is when the films simply haven't been seen to already say they can win just like that. Things can very well surprise you, or they may not even be in the running for Best Picture as well.

I'm not saying they are for sure, but I'm making an EDUCATED GUESS. A film written and directed by a guy who has been nominated TWICE for Best Director and Best film who the Academy seems to like seems to be a better educated guess and more possible outcome than a film in a genre the Academy has a bias against, and a director who, beloved and well received, has yet to receive much from the Academy. Same goes for a film in the same series that has won 17 Academy Awards and is directed by a Best Director and Best Picture winner.

I'm not saying The Hobbit and Django Unchained are DEFINITELY going to be better received by the Academy than TDKR. I'm simply making an EDUCATED GUESS on what the Academy most likely will think. Its ridiculous to see this is as silly. Is it silly to say The Patriots, with a three-time Super Bowl winning QB and coach has a better shot at winning the Super Bowl NEXT year than the Browns who suck this year even though no games have been played by the 2013 squads? NO, its an educated guess. TDKR isn't the Browns of the Academy Awards(though the Superhero genre might be), but the same concept can be applied. Also, I've personally seen the rest of those films on that list and while TDKR is my personal choice over a few of them, I think almost all of them are much more what the Academy looks for.

Well the movie was amazing, anyone who's seen it can back me up on this.

I'd say it deserves visual effects. The award doesn't just go to the best cg which TDKR had amazing cg but it also includes live action stunts and I'd say that it easily had the best live action effects of the year

Sometimes, no a lot of the time, the academy awards ARE not educated guesses.

I mean: Avatar gets nominated for best picture, Halle Berry, Hilary Swank & Gwyneth Paltrow have won oscars, but John Hurt & Gary Oldman haven't.

Better quality of the Nolan FYC ad:

One award this movie can get is an Razzie Award. Worst death for Miranda. Lewis or whoever else they pick will win best actor. It wont be Bale

Nolan really rocks the scruffy, yet dignified look, heh.

I still liked her as Talia, but she didn't have enough time as Talia to really make an impact; besides her reveal which was done very well. But yeah, that death scene was just so awkward.

And after watching TDKR again last night, I still wish there was some way Bale could at least get a best actor nod for his performance. He won't, but dammit Bale, you were just absolutely brilliant in Rises!

I don't think it has any right to beat Skyfall on cinematography. Les Miserables will win music.

I would say Killing Them Softly and The Master should be the real competition to TDKR (i still havent seen Life of Pi , but i believe it will be in the discussion). Altought Skyfall has some beautifull grading , most of the setups are as conservative as cinema gets. Deakins winning an award for a work like this , would seem very very strange. One of the greatest dps of all time should get recognition by great works , not simpler eye-popping image.

But...Avatar won this category once. So , every movie probably has the right to claim one.

Heh last time a Nolan Batman movie was at the Razzies was for Katie Holmes as Rachel.

This is the first time I really liked Bale in the role but I don't think it's good enough work to merit am oscar nom. I mean if the oscars didn't suck it wouldn't be good enough.

It definitly merits consideration for Cinematography and the Visual Effects.

for best picture, director and screenplay? zero. it's a great, yet incredibly sloppy action film.

i think pfister may get some recognition for the cinematography though.

Honestly it wouldn't be the worst movie the Academy could nominate, I mean they nominated The BlindSide for goodness sake and Bullock actually won for her surface level performance.

If by some stroke of luck Rises got a nom it wouldn't come close to being the worst nominee ever.
