The Dark Knight Rises TDKR Oscar Chances? - Part 1

This movie was good but there were better movies to come out this year. This might win for cinematography or best director ( maybe) or something like that but definitely not best picture.

I sure hope it does. It'll be the pinnacle to wrap this entire trilogy with a bow to finally see Nolan's trilogy been given credit and its due when it should have happened four years ago. Needless to say, TDKR deserves it and I believe BB did as well, but I can be honest to myself when knowing that TDK is the better critically acclaimed film of the trilogy but it was looked over except for Ledger's Joker.

The HP fans hoped the same thing and the last film still didn't get a best picture nod. The oscars don't seem to care about make up noms for franchises. There are so many other film that are right up the Oscars alley they don't need to nor should they nominate the film.

Those categories only have 5 spots available, while Best Picture has up to 10 spots available. I don't think it will be nominated in any of these categories. Way too much competition and way too many contender type movies that have come out recently.

Skyfall is going to steal a lot of TDKR's thunder in the "respected blockbuster" category. Skyfall came out much later in the year, right around the time of awards season. It received stronger praise from critics. And it is better crafted than TDKR (better direction, better cinematography).

Really? I still have yet to see Skyfall, only because of a hectic work schedule, but this kind of surprises me.

Yes, Skyfall had better cinematography. And I say that as someone who watched TDKR on a real IMAX screen vs. seeing Skyfall on a very small screen with digital projection.

One thing I really enjoyed about it was the final act. That's really where Deakins' cinematography is at its best, and the storytelling is a lot more interesting than your typical 3rd act of an action movie. Whereas I felt Casino Royale stumbled with the overly cheesy romance in the third act, this one didn't stumble at all. Really well-made. You're going to love the reason for the film being named Skyfall. Normally the movie titles in the Bond franchise are some cliched gadgets cooked up by the bad guys, but not this time...

I think it was a great movie, my favorite of the trilogy, but OSCAR?? Come on!

Even if it would have been a PERFECT movie, I don't think they would have ever nominated a comic book movie, you guys dream too much!

That's the main issue. TDK was a film that transcended the comic book/superhero genre in a way that Rises (or any other movie) doesn't. That's a big reason why it felt possible that it would get the major nominations and why Rises probably won't. Rises is in some ways more of a traditional blockbuster, albeit a very epic and well made one. It's the same reason why The Avengers will not be nominated for Best Picture despite being a really good movie.

TDK cleaned up at the Oscars, why would this not do the same?

TDKR will take a handful of tech awards, and will get a few actor nods along the way. I don't care or expect them to win, but it would be cool.

Because 2012 has been a much stronger year in film than 08. I can think of 10 films easily with just as good or better(most have better) chances at a Best Picture nod than TDKR.

Hell, the token blockbuster film the Academy will show love to may end up being Skyfall. 2012 has been a VERY strong year in film. Had TDKR come out last year, it would have had the possibility of having as much award success as TDK. 2012, not so much.

I missed Django on the list, I dont think that has been seen. But yes there has been screenings of Les Miserables and ZD30. The reviews couldnt be better.

I'm not sure what's worse. The fans who go over the top praising it or the haters that go over the top criticizing it. Someone commented on her article that the performances were "embarrassing" across the board. If that's truly how the person feels, then I'd say his/her taste in good acting is embarrassing.

I'd say the imagery was more stylized and beautiful in Skyfall, but it doesn't necessarily serve the story as well as TDKR's does. Also, film (IMAX no less) still trumps the Alexa for me.

I've seen all of the films on that list except Django Unchained and The Hobbit and with those, one is Tarantino who the Academy likes and the other is the prequel of a series that has won 17 Academy Awards. Thats not that silly.

Les Mis, I'm sure would be getting stellar reviews(Catwoman, Wolverine and Jor-El all in one film!), but I never thought Zero Dark Thirty would be so great, but I guess that's me. My first thought was the film is going to seem too political. Anything about that from the reviews?

They're both just as worse. While I LOVE TDKR, I can at least understand that Cotillard, by no way, should receive a nomination, nor would I believe that TDKR deserves to win Best Picture if it were nominated, but also the constant criticizing...it feels like TDKR was so awful that it makes Spider-Man 3 look like gold.

Imo, it is when the films simply haven't been seen to already say they can win just like that. Things can very well surprise you, or they may not even be in the running for Best Picture as well.
