so......to clarify about John Blake

He actually has "Robin" in his name? Like his real name is Robin John Blake, or something like. He's ashamed of the name Robin so he just goes by John Blake. But, at the end, someone actually refers to him by his real name......Robin. Is that correct?

Thank you. This is sort of what I was looking for. [BLACKOUT]In Year One, a lot of people suspect that Bruce Wayne is Batman. It has seemed odd to me that no one except his accountant has done that in this version.

But just for clarification, you mean that Blake and Bruce have two scenes together, right? I would assume that Batman and Blake have more than two together. [/BLACKOUT]

They do have more than two, at least three. And Blake spends plenty of time working with Gordon (as Batman did).

I think people also should realize that any ending in this film is going to differ from comics because in Nolan's world, Bruce gets older. No matter what happened, he couldn't be Batman forever, because he'll get old and die like anyone else. That doesn't mean you have to love the ending Nolan chose, but I think that's important to keep in mind. To me, the movie sounds awesome. I'm going to go in, take it for what it is and hopefully enjoy it. If it doesn't live up to my expectations I'll be bummed, but I'm still going in with a positive attitude.

commodore:
cannot not say for sure only 2 scenes between the two because like i said the film is packed and my memory is crappy. what theShape said
about wearing a mask to protect those he loves - does it happen in the first scene when they met in bruce manor or later? i do not remember.

When Blake gives Bruce a ride.

Good point.

This whole ending pissing over the entire character of Batman. This isn't a *gig* he picks up *occasionally* for about nine years. Jean Paul Valley wasn't Bruce's choice, he was unable to perform, and had to stop him. This? Batman would never do such a thing. He's far too paranoid to let some beat cop just take his mantel. He delusional for pete's sake! Nolan wrote the biggest emo-cry baby to ever wear the Bat suit

I have to admit, this part has really bothered me about what I've heard so far. I'm wondering if that's part of the reason for some of the tepid reviews. Reading Ebert's review it was especially weird because it was like he wanted to love the film but was holding back from all out praise, although he does give a positive review.

It seems like Nolan was trying to force some type of Inception/Prestige style ending in this movie and ended up making a major change to the character by doing so.

I have a feeling this goes back to Rachel telling him, he'd always need Batman, and he was thinking he had a way out.

jon blake, similar to harvey dent, instigate changes on the status of batman. i would say without him there would be no ending.

This thread has turned to crap now. I can't even get through a page anymore without someone whining or "being disappointed" about scenes they haven't even watched yet. The reviews are out and they are all incredibly postive. What should that tell you people? I'm out of here before I lose anymore brain cells from reading some of these questions and responses.

Most of it is coming from newbs so hopefully things pick up around here after the film releases and the regular posters start showing up again. Can't wait for that!

That'll be good fun, for sure.

WHEOEVER THE BATMAN IS HE DOESN'T WANT TO DO THIS FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE-HOW COULD HE?
The batman is looking for someone to take up his mantle!

I'm no "newb", i've been on the site far longer than you have. I stated a concern about what I consider a major change to the character. I still plan on seeing the film. Perhaps it will play out better when I see it.

disagree with tony stark opinion. john blake character arc was set up through the whole film in such way that the ending is logical. it just to me maybe because the focus of the last few moments was not really about
the dark knight
that this is where some people will be disappointed.

No, they aren't. Not all.

I'm out of here

Pish posh. I can understand you being frustrated when people ask the same questions over and over again, but it's perfectly fine for someone to say they're disappointed provided they give a reason. Only a few people have come on here saying "This sounds like it's going to be a terrible film now." The only thing I dislike about the film is the [BLACKOUT]"Robin" reveal[/BLACKOUT], and most of us have stated "maybe our minds will change after we see it."

theShape said:
Blake --> Robin is pretty gradual
Lest you forget, Blake can't be Robin. That's his first name after all.
Anyway, the gradual thing is what interests me. How long would you say the film takes place over? A few months? A year? This is probably a difficult question, since I don't think I could put a timeframe on TDK despite having seen it a bazillion times.

I need a minute to vent if you all don't mind. I am doing my best not to judge anything about this movie before I see it, and I expected for the negative reviews to shake my faith. But pleasing everyone is all but impossible. The positive reviews are overwhelming and I have faith that this trilogys conclusion will be tremendously satisfying. Obviously, it will lack the incredible aspect of Heath ledgers joker. In many ways I feel that Chris Nolan should have considered saving joker for the final film, as he is the ying to batmans yang, and especially when the performance will be so out of this world for a character as important as this, topping it will be incredibly hard. That's is not to say hardy as bane won't be as great as well. But for a character as important of the joker to be completely absent in batmans final chapter will clearly disappoint some fans. However, my faith in this movie has not shaken. Bale seems to be at his best, bane is a badass, Alfred is pure emotion and Miranda's betrayal and the John robin Blake plot line show such incredible promise that I can't imagine not loving this movie. Nearly every review praise the last 30 minutes, calling it a spectacular event, even though it seems to be the most controversial among fans.npersonally, I love what I've heard about the montage ending, and these critics and fans on this board I have seen it can't all be wrong. This movie will go out with a bang, and I personally can't wait. I can't believe we are privileged to have such a talented director I Chris Nolan that his major competition is HIMSELF. ok vent over. Thanks!

It's kind of ironic on how some issues that people had with TDK was that there wasn't as much 'Bruce" in it as opposed to Batman...then with TDKR, it's the other way around.lol

But the ending is still about
Batman. It's showing how the symbol of batman causesd Gotham to rise, represented by Blake/robin. With the suit literally lifting blake/robin so as to make the point crystal clear. It's not typical but it ends this universe's story perfectly. As long as they don't do anymore movie and undo this, the whole story has come full circle. Begins was a man starting a journey and rises is the end of that man's journey, with another man starting his own. This is why the focus of the ending is on the symbol of batman(the suit) and it's impact on blake, rather than bruce as a man. It's the symbol and that symbol's creation, meaning and legacy that's important. Not wayne himself.

Shape please tell me this interpretation of mine is correct.

I found it particularly odd that Ebert mentioned that in his review as if it were a negative. I'm happy to see more Bruce (especially if it means less of the Bat-voice [BLACKOUT]I kid; I kid.[/BLACKOUT]).

Rapunzel, that sounds good to me as well, based on what I've read. [BLACKOUT]So many people kept thinking that the "Rises" meant that the symbol would become legend and all that jazz; no reason to oppose it now that we get that. [/BLACKOUT]

Didnt you know? Nolan can never win. :hehe:

Commodore, about the time frame of the movie:

after bane beat down bruce and have him sent to the pit, it should be five months passed before the ending montage.

hey theShape, would you say this is a
happy
ending. i guess one of the reason i was disappointed is because i was hoping for a
really sad gut-wrenching ending,
and i did not get it.

I'm sorry for folks that didn't get their endings if they were hoping for a "sad ending", but if I were to just state my opinion on things for a moment, I'm happy (guilty happy.lol) that...

Bruce didn't end up dying in this film. The guy has been through hell and back throughout the course of the series, and as a fan of the character, I'd hope that he'd be able to find closure and peace after the end of his journey as Batman; he's earned it imho.

is the peace and closure well-earned though? and what about escalation?
the implication of the everlasting existence of a masked symbol?

My interpretation of it is that with what Bruce has done as Batman for Gotham City, the symbol that he created will forever be used as a inspiration and source to look back to in order to ensure that the people of Gotham never allow themselves to fall into the decay and despair that they were once in.

Unless you discovered this forum back when it was only spider-man hype, then no, you have not been here far longer than me. Actually far later than me.

I'll I'm saying is to watch it FIRST, then if it didn't sit well with you, then fine. You can complain then. These new users need to stop lookimg into every little word typed and assuming the character wasn't done justice. Two more days and you'll know for yourselves.
