The Dark Knight Rises The 80th TDKR General Discussion & Speculation Thread

Don't even get me started. I am not talking about their predictions about The Avengers - then go to town on that, it's their predictions about TDKR that are truly staggering. There are actually people there who think that The Avengers is going to snatch away IMAX screens from TDKR, after July no less - TDKR, a film that is shot in IMAX and has the full backing of the IMAX corporation. Then of course, there are all those idiots who say that TDK only made so much money because Heath Ledger died. On top of that, you've got half-wits like Devin and IGN trumpeting their horn about the death of dark and cynical superhero films (TDK and Watchmen - yeah, all two of them  ). It's very difficult to resist the temptation to pick apart their broken logic piece by piece, but then again, it's much more simpler and easier when you've got facts by your side...and I am a patient man. I have the utmost confidence that TDKR is going to blow the roof off, and when that happens, there will be nowhere to hide.

It's so annoying that I actually want TDKR to destroy the box office just to see how all these people will respond.

Oh I get ya. Well, to be fair, it's not like there aren't a good share of Bat fans who are just as illogical. I remember the days when people were angry Batman Begins didn't get nominated for Best Picture because they thought it should have WON best picture. Or people saying they thought BB would make more money then Revenge of the Sith at the Box Office.

And then I remember some of the bat fans who seemed to make it their mission to troll the other boards and proclaim how much better TDK was then everything else in the months following TDK being released.

Not saying that it makes the behavior you mentioned justified, but it happens on both sides. One thing that is quite common, fanboys tend to get extremely excited when their favorite character(s) do well, and sometimes some ridiculous claims are made.

Precisely.

Those people you don't pay attention to. The stupidity is astounding.

Also, why are you listening to anything IGN has to say?

TDKR may come back to haunt that crowd.

And really, I don't think it's a majority. But the people with the most ridiculous opinions are usually the loudest.

Well, that's not the common sentiment around these parts. You say both sides are guilty, and sure, I agree. What is clear is now that Marvel finally has a blockbuster of TDK's caliber, you are starting to see that the whole "the Batboards are the worst place to be" and "Batman fanboys are the worst" shtick that was being paraded around this place for the longest time is simply a matter of circumstance and who's the current king-of-the-hill.

If Batman knocks Avengers off the top spot come July, sure, many overzealous fanboys are going to invade the interwebs but at least we won't have to endure the stupid stereotypes anymore. Fans of the winning team are always one to gloat. It's The Avengers moment and their fans can bask in it all they want. That is why I am not there into heated arguments trying to knock some sense into them, because I know many from this side have, and will, do the same in their place. It's in their own best interest to pray as hard as they can that TDKR doesn't break The Avengers' records, because if it does, it's not just the SHH boards that are going to get real ugly.

Yep. I, myself, predicted that neither TDKR and TA would make a billion, but I'm glad that TA has proven me wrong. Let's hope TDKR proves me wrong too.

At the end of the day though, money doesn't equal quality. If making a billion was a testament to a film's storytelling, characters, cinematography, etc then Avatar should be considered the greatest film known to man.

I'm invested into the story, dialogue, subtext/themes, characters and conclusion when arriving to TDKR. Money will be the furtherest thing on my mind when I'm watching Nolan's last.

It's difficult to do that once you've already read posts like that.

There was a time when they used to have decent articles.

I completely agree. I didn't care that BB didn't make more money then ROTS, I was just happy it was a great movie. TDK making as much as did was just icing on the cake, same with Avengers. I just want to see good films, because the more good Superhero films made, the better for us. A bad film hurts the genre, but lots of quality films getting made, like BB, Avengers, and TDK make it more likely more Superhero films will keep getting made for a while.

Yeah, it's always been whoever is on top that has gloated the most. The Batboards didn't start getting their reputation until around TDK. It started with BB, but got into full bloom with TDK. And not without reason. As I've said, there was a few month period where quite a few batfans were annoying as all get out. I mean, I loved TDK, I saw it six times in theaters, and even I was getting ticked at some of these guys. So far, the Avengers fanboys haven't been as bad as that few month period post TDK. But I think this is for a few reasons. I think the Mods are doing a better job, and I think the concept of a superhero film making billions and being one of the highest grossing films ever isn't as amazing a concept as it was pre-TDK.

But to be fair, the bat boards didn't always have that reputation. I remember when I joined, before BB came out, the Spidey fans were the "king of the hill" so to speak. I've always been a huge Spider-man fan, but I've never been a big fan of SM2. When I voiced my opinion on it, I got flamed to holy hell and back. But the Spider-man fans were the top of the totem pole then. SM2 was "the" superhero movie. Of course, it was funny to see how almost overnight (after SM3) suddenly quite a few posters seemed to appear that shared similar views to mine regarding Raimi's films.

But it's always been that way, as long as I've been here anyways. It just shifts from one group to the other. However, I really don't think it's the majority of either fanbase. Most the fans are pretty logical, and a good number of them are fans of both franchises. It's just that small group that always yell the loudest.

As apposed to the two paragraph style rants that you just did? :o:oldrazz::o

Haha, I do like to have my voice heard. However, a two paragraph type up is nothing to the battles you get on here sometimes. Five pages of posts where they segment each post into tiny points and respond to each individual point. I'm nothing compared to some of the established ranters on here. (And yes, I'm aware what I just did was similar to that, but if I was really going all out, I would have separate each individual point into it's own quote in every post. I don't have the energy for that).:oldrazz:

Everyone makes mistakes...IGN, AICN, CBM...and so on.
They're only human. SHH has also been there.

I couldn't have said better myself! TDKR will skyrocket through heaven itself I dare to say!*gives 2 thumbs up* I can't wait to see the looks on everyone's faces in IMAX theater when it comes out, it's going to blow their brains out! >x)

Like I said, it's one thing to make a mistake. It's another to start blowing the horn before the other side even has even had the opportunity to bat. If you're going to make premature conclusions and write long-winded articles about it, you deserve every bit of the rotten egg that falls on your face because of it.

Guys, this movie is going to be huuuuuuuge. Have no fear.

Avengers is having its time. I loved The Avengers, and it's earned it's B.O.

But trust me. We're exactly 2 months out from today. By the time June 20 rolls around, NO ONE will be talking about The Avengers, and EVERYONE will be talking about TDKR, because it will be 1 month away.

I genuinely mean this. Don't underestimate the power of Batman, ever.

Devin can't help but wear his biases on his sleeve.

Heh, I'm just joking around. It doesn't bother me either way. :woot:

Damn it all. Its 2 months away and still no official running time running yet. I still don't believe it's 1 hr and 52 mins, I still think it's 2 hours and 52 mins.

Also, can anyone tell me when Total Film issue 1194 for TDKR will be released in the US here? UK has it already, will it be on sale in bookstores soon this week through May 21st and 27th:huh:?

It seems really bad that people are rooting for movies to be bad. It used to be we watched a movie first and then decided it's quality.

This Devin Faraci guy seems to not understand TDKR or TA at all. The film industry is full of dark cynical gritty movies that do well, and flashy, colorful, bombastic movies that do well. And both can be fun. I think knowing Nolan's sense of tact and skill, TDKR has got to be a great movie, why compare it to a dubiously similar themed movie that shares little to nothing but basic cosmetic sense of common ground stylistically.

This guy seems to need attention and bad.
