I really HATE this whole mentality that only super model hot women can be a comic book female hero

The women in comics are drawn to be super models purely because comics are a male dominated medium and it is fan service. Just because Carol Danvers looks like a Barbie doll in the comics doesn't mean only 10/10 hot women can play her. This mentality is extremely sexist.

Butt seriously, if Marvel is willing to do Guardians of the Galaxy, they can at least throw us some GLA.

Like others have said, it's all about the acting chops
and "The middle" is f***ing horrible, so I have no confidence in her acting abilities

all that said, if I'm being honest, it would be nice to have someone at least moderately attractive as Carol

Women get Evans, Hemsworth, Hiddleston, Downey and Ruffalo (charming), and now possibly ATJ to oogle.
while the men have gotten Scarlett, Colby, and now little Olsen (and personally I don't find any of the three very attractive, Pepper is prob the only one I find crushable, and that's in a girl-next-door kinda way)
If they can find talented AND attractive men, they can do it for women too

And my $$$ is on Eden Sher as Jessica Jones. She a total "WIN" in the casting department. She totally nails the the whole "awkward" part of JJ.

I'm always in support of Eden Sher as I used to be an avid watcher of The Middle! I don't mind too much about Ms. Marvel and how she looks because I trust Joss' decisions so whoever he assigns to the role it'll be good, but I wouldn't mind seeing an actor I'm already familiar with!

You're right, it isn't, but if you look at the bankability of movie actresses, they basically have to be beautiful to sell a movie on their own (unless it's a comedy). If Ms. Marvel is going to be Marvel's first female solo movie, she's going to have to be pretty attractive to be bankable. I'm not saying they have to cast Angelina Jolie, but it has to be somebody bankable like that that they can hang a movie on. No one is going to see a movie with Eden Sher as a lead.

You can say that there is a double-standard at work here for male and female actors, and you would be right. But it is how it works.

I don't think she's that bad looking now! But I can see what you mean, she's not your perfect girl like most female actresses are made to look like these days, e.g. Emilia Clarke, Scarlett Johansson, Emma Stone etc. Isn't Ms. Marvel kinda buff too? Not many people come to mind when I think of that...

Yep, and just look at the Adam Driver response, a bunch of people complained he wasn't good looking enough. i really don't think it is a double standard in Hollywood.

Well she hasn't got the physique i'd expect for Wonder Woman. But she's definitely good looking. In an exotic way, which is good for Diana. I mean she was a super model before she was an actress.

Feige has made it clear that he doesn't practice the lame-brained studio exec way of thinking that female superhero lead = BO poison because of the previous attempts - it's just that they were terrible movies, and said they would be open to it when they get the time.
