:wow:

Yeah. Avengers is performing like a boss overseas. Don't know if it beat DH2, but... My God!!
Apparently DH2's Monday was 41M but that was in the middle of summer and it was open in Russia and Japan, etc

Also I can see Avengers VIII beating DH2's figures. :woot:

From ERCboxoffice:

THE AVENGERS captured $33.1M on Monday. Total for the earth's mightiest heroes is now $218.2M.

Not gonna pretend to know much about the science of the box office but i"m assuming thats pretty damn good for a monday

To put this in perspective it has made more money overseas in 6 days than any X-Men movie did total (except X3 which sits 6M ahead)

So, umm, wow. It's doing way better than I expected:

Box Office Shocker: 'Avengers' Pacing to Fly Past $500 Mil Globally by Sunday

Disney and Marvel Studios appear to have a runaway hit on their hands.

The Avengers, which only began rolling out at the international box office late last week, is easily on track to become the most successful title produced in-house by Marvel Studios, besting the $623 million worldwide gross of 2010's Iron Man 2. Directed by Joss Whedon, Avengers is doing massive business at the international box office, earning $218 million in its first six days through Monday and breaking records across the globe. And the 3D pic, which unites many of Marvel's marquee superheroes, could enjoy weekend-like business Tuesday because of the May Day holiday in many foreign markets. At this pace, Avengers' foreign gross likely will grow to $350 million-$400 million by Sunday, boosted by its debut in Russia and China this weekend. Avengers doesn't launch in North America until midnight Thursday. It's widely expected to debut north of $150 million, based on the strength of prerelease tracking.

whats the official overseas box office count now? $178M? $200M++?

70%? the Avengers will only screen on those countries? i dont believe it. thats an extremely short list, even with the inclusion of Russia, China, Japan, USA, and Canada. also the wed-fri snapshot is hardly the best gauge of a film's performance, if anything its merely an indicator of potential weekend earnings. i'm pretty sure that when Tuesday rolls around (because Monday is a holiday in many countries) The Avengers' worldwide earnings would be at or or near the $200M mark.

called it :woot:

This has me smiling like an idiot in public!

So proud!

It's really fun watching people's inner nolanite come out as they feel threatened by THE AVENGERS potential success.

:csad: I watched The Avengers last weekend and hopefully going again this week. I'm also looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises later this summer and I also hope it does well.

The public does not care if a film is DC or Marvel, they just want a good comic book movie. Dependent on the quality of the film, if it's good e.g The Avengers and The Dark Knight, it will make money/get good reviews.

my fear is that spidey will forgotten about in avengers/TDKR wake :csad:

yeah saw TheGambler post it after i submitted my post :woot:

when Avengers opens for North America i'm pretty sure that market can match the current $200M++ overseas (long) weekend haul. but this baby's got legs. i'm pretty sure Avengers can easily pull $700M global box office receipts at the end of its run, and thats just a conservative estimate.

as for the proverbial $1B mark? very ambitious-- will only happen if it doesnt loose any screens (which is unlikely given how many other big named movies are still slated to come out). i'm not saying it cant happen, but its not gonna be an easy climb, even with momentum this strong.

Man I could just feel MS/Disney collectively brimming with confidence. This only spells good things for future projects.

The $140m prediction that's just come out seems totally at odds with the OS performance

Spidey will have 4th of July weekend, with little competition until TDKR comes out. I don't think it will be huge, but if reviews are good, then it should do in the neighborhood of 250-300M domestic. I think the high watermark will be how well it does in comparison with IM1.

'Don't be afraid to dream a little bigger darling'. :woot: 700m global is certain (barring world catastrophe (& maybe even then!)) given the pace it's going at. 300m domestic & 400m overseas would be 700m! Peanuts my friend lol. I think it's going to be well clear of $500m by this weekend with months left to 'double up'.

Oh yes, this thing's gonna hit a billion.

The floor right now is 900M world wide, and that's if the thing falls apart in the following weeks. The celing depends on how well it does internationally 2nd week and how well it holds up against Battleship and other competition.

Do we know how the presale tickets look for this thing? I know a lot was made about Hunger Games massive pre-sales, so how about Avengers? Are they anywhere close?
