Action-Adventure The 'Back To The Future' Appreciation Thread - Part 2

The Russo Brothers with Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus interview ‘Back To The Future’ Screenwriter Bob Gale.

This was very enjoyable and I liked how the crew here seemed genuinely surprised at some of the stuff Gale revealed.

Good show though. :oldrazz:

I love love love love Back to the Future. But there’s a limit when you slap Back to the Future on a cookbook with “time period themed recipes”. Unless they’re meals of jail cakes and Tabs.

Cookbook??

I love the movies but food doesn't play a big part in the story.

Cobb was a legend. I guarantee from Conan the Barbarian to Marvel's Thor you've seen something with his production design in it.

Not at all. I even looked up fun "Back to the Future" recipes a while back and realized there really isn't anything other than Tab

And most of the food that is there is unappetizing - i.e. Marty's family seems to eat a lot of carb heavy meals like meat loaf, mashed potatoes, and rolls with butter. I guess there's also stuff like peanut brittle and Pepsi, and the sheet cake Loraine makes for her brother Joey. And the punch they drink at the dance.

Marty drinks diet soda for some reason - I don't remember boys his age being a big market for diet pop in the 80s, it was mainly directed at women and teen girls. He certainly isn't overweight so I suppose he's just thinking the sugar is bad for him (and it provided jokes for the writers).

I was able to carefully get the glasses off. There's a tiny bit of black at the temples but it's not too noticeable

Just a reminder for those that haven't heard, there will never be a Back to the Future: Part IV or Back to the Future reboot until Bobs Gale or Zemeckis have passed.

We have an understanding with Spielberg and Amblin that there would never be another Back to the Future movie without our blessing or being involved. So it’s not going to happen.

“We told a complete story with the trilogy. If we went back and made another one, we’d have Michael J. Fox, who will be sixty next year, and he has Parkinson’s Disease. Do we want to see Marty McFly at age sixty with Parkinson’s Disease? Did we want to see him at age fifty with Parkinson’s Disease? I would say ‘No, you don’t want to see that.’ And you don’t want to see Back to the Future without Michael J. Fox. People say, ‘Well, do it with somebody else.’ Really? Who are you going to get? All you’re gonna do is beg comparisons to the originals, and you’re not going to match up. And we’ve seen this repeatedly with sequels that go back to the well after many, many years, and they go ‘Ah, well, The Phantom Menace, maybe my life would have been better if I hadn’t seen it.’ There are a lot of extra sequels like that. We didn’t want to be those guys who did a movie that was basically a moneygrab. Universal says to us, ‘You’d guys would make a whole lot of money,’ but we’re like, ‘Well, we’ve already made a whole lot of money with these movies, and we like them just the way they are. And as proud parents, we’re not going to sell our kids into prostitution.’”

What does a Chicken pie recipe have to do with doc brown? It would make more sense with Marty(Chicken!)

None of these really look like Michael J Fox at all. Without the familiar clothes for context, it would be hard to tell who they were meant to be.

You're right but it's Neca not Hot Toys :)
Depends on the series too I guess, I have a Newt/Ripley and Hicks/Hudson from Neca and the faces are relatively faithful.
I pre ordered the Ultimate Marty (same as Gold Samurai), still waiting to be in stock.

I desperately hope someone makes custom shrunken Hot Toys heads of Marty/Michael J Fox.

It would be a great replacement for NECA's attempts

I wonder what Hill Valley 2020 looks like! Hopefully zero coronavirus and Jaws 20 opening. And no Biff Tannen as President.
