That's because the white lenses in TDK weren't meant to look menacing. The were used soley for that scene, for no ore than a minute or two. They were't going for a certain look. It can look good. But stop using TDK as the example.

That's true. It's practically a straw man.
The eyes are too big, too blue, and too out of focus to be anything more than a neat easter egg for fans.

Small eyes, big glow would be ideal :)

True...but that second pic shows it could have been so much more than just an easter egg.

Keep in mind that you are comparing two separate cowls on top of the fact that those lenses were oversized.

Actually the Begins cowl and TDK cowl are the same mold, the only difference is in TDK it's a separate piece without the neck. The more you know.

Why do they look completely different, then?

I just hate the idea of lenses. They're just useless to me. Batman can be intimidating without them and he just doesn't need them at all. For me, it's about lighting.

Basically this. It´s so cool to see the eyes. I hope they don´t introduce lenses.

Good thing eyes and lenses don't have to be mutually exclusive. I'd love to see both.

but the glow makes it look less human to me.
That's a bad thing.....how?
We're talking about batman.....the character who works with the idea that the criminals of gotham think he's some sort of creature.

^Yeah, that guy there would avoid things that make him appear "less human".:whatever:

Just wanted to see my manip animated, so I threw this together in PS...

^ Excellent! :woot:

I think batman should appear to be part beast, part apparition and something that people are never quite sure if they saw at all (unless he's punching them in the face).

Thanks! It's simple I know, but as I said in the Manip thread, it's just something different than a static manip - wanted to add a bit of flavor.

I'd love to see pupils when Batman is revealed in the light, but I think the image of two triangles in the dark is pretty creepy :yay:

It'd be neat to see the glow dim down as the light glows up, revealing the eyes, but through a SLIGHTLY foggy lenses.

How about protecting his eyes?

Lenses are greater than "just eyes." But only if done correctly. TDK didn't get them right at all although that mostly was just a nod to make the lense fans happy, but they looked atrocious on Nolan's batsuit. If anyone is going to get the lensed Batman right it's going to be Snyder/Affleck. Here's hoping that's what we get.

It's crazy to me that we are having this conversation, again, with almost the identical beats. Thank you, BatFan1979 for the animated manip, the repeat conversation was worth it!

And yeah, the Keaton pic is cool, but I think most of us agreed before that Keaton was virtually the only actor who has been able to use his eyes effectively as Batman. I agree that the 1989 Batman would not have been as effective with the white lenses. One of the main reasons that I am massively in favor of them now is because we only just now have the technology available to filmmakers to really do them justice. And if designed into the approach to Batman, this time around, I think they'd complete the transformation of Ben Affleck into the most comic accurate Batman yet.

How about protecting his eyes?

And his secret identity. Not just from people looking at his eyes and recognising them, but from optical scanning devices.

Bruce is one out of tons of people that lives on the outskirts of the city he protects. Anyone could be Batman, because no one can get a good description of a ninja beast kicking butt in the dark. Also, not many people have optical scanners, so that is a very rare situation.
