Alright I'm onboard with the white eyes now. I'm fine either way.

My biggest apprehension with the white eyes is that they will be big Spidey lenses, which are obviously big white eyes and a part of his costume and ALWAYS have been, and that has never been up for debate, however I don't want the same with Batman. His eye lenses should be the same size as his regular eyes, if he wears them at all. That is the only thing I'd like to add about them, my biggest concern.

this would be cool to see.

He can have lenses, that are faint where the camera could still make out some eyes... while still maintaining the epic demon like feel while in the shadows.

Just look at the stunt guy lenses the ASM films uses.

we defiantly need more of the shadow/lighting exposing/atmospheric aspects of Batman 'appearing' that BTAS was so good at. The closest we had, without shot cheating, was in Crane's apartment when Batman crouched in the background in BBegins.

If they're going with white lenses, I think Daredevil's mask is closer to what Batman's would look like. But, it'd probably make the actors' field of vision smaller.

Spidey's are big to go with his whole "bug" look.

The solution to Batman's eyes seems rather obvious. Best of both worlds. Give him retracting lenses that can give him the "white eyes", a la THE DARK KNIGHT, but not enormous and silly looking. For when he needs to intimidate. When he's dealing with innocent people, he shouldn't be out to terrify them, and should appear more human.

Pretty much this. I'm honestly surprised that there is so much discussion over this issue when the solution is so blatantly clear.

- Lenses for "detective mode," intimidation, and eye protection during fight sequences.
- No lenses for dialogue scenes.

I just don't think the lenses will ever look good in live action, unless you go with the Sin City look. Other than that, I think it just looks pretty silly.

I have to agree. I just don't see them looking good on screen. Plus they may possibly end up being a potential hazard for fight scenes (at least to the guy wearing them). Not to mention that the live action cowls so far have managed to both look good and not hinder the actor's performance too much. I don't see why this needs to be fixed really.

i mean lenses or not batman looks awesome in the right lighting...you can barely see his eyes but you know he is staring at you...

I wouldn't do retracting lenses, I would give him contacts. The biggest argument against the lenses is that they don't let the eyes emote, but when you give him lenses you still get to see when his eyes narrow, widen, etc. And if you want to have Batman be able to switch between white eyes and normal, you could just have them be some kind of advanced protective contact that can shift back and forth between the white and clear eyed look.

Also, I wouldn't mind having his cowl be a silicone kind of setup that moved with his face so he would have added expression with it.

This.

Contacts are the way to go IMO.

i think like contacts or something which serve a certain purpose depening on the plot of the movie....if there is a reason for it, why not ..
but mostly he wont need those, so ...not gonna happen if not needed
lookwise?
i call bull on that

I...have no idea what any of that means.

I've been saying for years that they should at least explore the idea of using a prosthetic cowl. That way you can avoid the infamous "bat turn" while keeping a sleek and uniform aesthetic for the cowl/neck.

a prosthetic cowl would be amazing, just have an alternate cowl for scenes where it gets put on or taken off and it'd be the ideal.

Whenever I think of retracting lenses I think of Raimi's GG and Smallville's Hawkman. Both of those characters had huge lenses on what were closer to helmets instead of masks to me.

I still wish we got to see the Justice League: Mortal suit or concept art. It sounded like that would've gone for a more prosthetic cowl or at least designed to look like the demon Batman in BB.

^ I don't think that is a fair analogy. Both were poorly done without even half of an effort put into them.

Plus, the latter was done in Smallville. That's self-explanatory. lol

I don't know. I think it is. Both of those characters were wearing helmets which happened to have lenses the retract and those lenses were huge. Note that those character also flew around and the lenses were pretty much goggles. That was the look they were going for and I think it worked for both characters.

Thus, when I think of Batman having something like that, I think of Nite Owl. If they're small like Daredevil, I don't see much point in having them being retractable.

I think CGI or contacts would be better for white eyes.

What about reflective contact lenses? They can give the glowing eyes at night kinda look

Do you mean something like that one moment in the first Raimi Spidey film and Spidey 2 posters?

I don't want to see permanent lenses in the film. Most of the comics don't have lenses as actually being part of the cowl, it's just an effect the cowl gives off (Mostly because it saves the illustrator drawing eyes). I wouldn't be opposed to the Batsuit having flip down lenses for a detective mode though.

Whenever the cowl is removed you can just see holes.

Like I said, it varies from writer to writer. From my experience, there are far more comics with panels where the white eyes are seen on a removed cowl than panels where there aren't. I just wished I actually had some comic scans on my computer in moments like these to prove it. :csad:

Plus, both images you posted use the "Alex Ross" realistic style. In such types of drawings, the white eyes are never there. Though if you want to go by those, then Batman technically always wears spandex as opposed to fabric (what he actually wears) in the comics. When the more standard "animated style" is used, the white eyes are there most of the time.
