The Daily Planet - Superman News and Speculation Thread (🚨TAG SPOILERS🚨)

I do like Tom Brittney’s look. The more that I look at him, the more I see Cavill, but it’s not like the look was ever Cavill’s problem.
Honestly could more easily see him as Lex than Clark. Imagine the Cult's reaction if that happened - Corenswet (whom they constantly refer to as "WalMart Cavill") as Clark, and actual Cavill look-alike Brittney as Lex. Which would they complain about more? Might be worth it to find out. :hehe:

I could see this, but I honestly expect The Flash to perform...not necessarily well, but adequately. Adequately enough to not make a narrative change feel necessary for Gunn/WB.
A week ago I'd have agreed but the tracking for The Flash pre sales so far has been... concerning to say the least. It's tracking at around 65-85 million opening weekend with the reviews having seemingly zero effect at all. And if it opens to around the same internationally, a below 200 million worldwide opening could be in the cards which would spell outright flop for WB, especially considering the marketing budget being appareantly high.

They'll want to change the narrative immediately if that happens especially given the way it's been hyped.

The movie is going to lose money no matter what. They aren't counting on it being anything but liked.

Yeah it won't be Green Lantern bad so they will just let it fade and be fine.

I honestly have no clue who Corenswet is...what is he in?
I've seen him in the Netflix shows The Politician and Hollywood, HBO's We Own This City, a Netflix rom-com called Look Both Ways and last year's horror flick Pearl. He's shown a ton of range just in those varied roles alone, imo. A very good actor. Plus, was very Supes-like in The Politician (in fact I was on this board 4 years ago attesting to how born-to-play-Superman this guy was after seeing him in that), and was very Clark-like in Hollywood.

In Hoult's defense, I think he is unequivocally the best actor of the three in terms of talent. I saw the dramatic work that Gunn was able to get out of Chris Pratt, and I can just as easily see him getting something like that out of Hoult.
Well Pratt isn't a dramatic actor, so if Gunn can pull that sort of emotion and weight out of Pratt, he can definitely do it with someone who graduated from Juilliard.

Maybe this movie or this take on Superman won't require the actor to dig down as much as Pratt had to. I dunno. Corenswet seems okay from what I've seen, but I'm not getting a whole lot of depth from him.
Eye of the beholder I guess. I see a LOT of potential from Corenswet even if he doesn't land the role. I haven't seen Hollywood, but I saw enough of him in The Politician to know that he can easily handle the empathy and compassion required to play a proper Superman.

You know she isn't always like she is on Maisel...she has had other parts and has a ton of range.
I haven't seen in her anything but House of Cards, but even that was enough to sell me on her acting capabilities. She was a highlight of that show.

Thank you :)

I trust you all on this. I don't pay attention much these days sadly. I do know Hoult obviously and while he is a very good actor he just doesn't feel like Superman to me.

Well put it this way...she is not a Jew from New York she is a an Irish/Brit who is from Milwaukee and grew up in Chicago. As a Jew that is quite impressive to me ;)

(She went to Tisch at NYU she has chops)

Anyone but Corenswet at this point for me and I'll be disappointed I think. I watch a lot of Grantchester (UK Show) which Brittney stars in and while he is a good actor, I just don't see him as being Clark, or Superman.

I've not seen anything with Brosnahan in yet, so I can't really give an opinion on her either way, but I love Emma Mackey and would be happy if it's her.

Pattinson was first reported as Batman on May 16th 2019 (by Kroll). He went to the premiere for The Lighthouse at the Cannes Film Festival (May 14th - 25th), and then he left from there to go straight to the screentest at Warner Bros (Hoult did one as well). He was officially announced on May 31st 2019.

Didn't take long after the screentest for them to announce him. So unless Gunn plans on having multiple rounds of screentesting or trying to keep a lid on things, we should be looking at the end of June/beginning of July.

I think above all, I just wanna see Brosnahan as Lois. It’s been a long time since we had that spunky Lois Lane on the big screen, we really need that again and she’s just the one to do it.
You don't want an actress sleepwalking through the role and talking about measuring dicks? :o

Is Jordan Peterson a code name for Fode? Or did I miss something? Relieved no mention of Fode, as he is really just a soap actor and he has been a tool since the casting article.

So, have some people already had screen tests, and this is just more, or is this a second round, a winnowing down from the first tests?

Sorry for all the questions, just kind of lost with all the goings on.

I guess I am the only one good with all three names for Superman. My preference is for Corenswet by miles, but I would be ok with Brittney and Hoult, as I think both have a good look and enough talent, though the accents will need to be worked on, Cavill's accent alway threw me off.

I will note that it seems that The Batman's screentest seems like it happened closer to May 30th.

Warner Bros Approves Robert Pattinson For ‘The Batman’ – Deadline
Pattinson has been considered a frontrunner because the filmmaker liked him, but the studio was torn between him and Nicholas Hoult, and wanted both of the actors on tape because this is such a big decision on a cornerstone Warner Bros DC franchise. Those meetings happened yesterday, I’m told, and the decision was made.

How Robert Pattinson Became Batman – The Hollywood Reporter

The two actors in short order became the only contenders, and during the week of May 20, when Pattinson flew in from Cannes, both shot screen tests in costume on the Burbank lot.

So we should be getting Superman casting officially selected the same week or the week after the screentests happens. Gunn is pretty quick so my guess is he'll know his guy as soon as he sees him in the suit and will cast him the same day; especially considering how there's way less overhead from him than what Reeves had (He pretty much only needs Zaslav's approval, opposed to how Reeves needed Hamada's, Emmerich's, and probably whoever was the CEO of WB at the time).

That's not fair. Adams was a great Lois. Her first scene was absolutely faithful to her character.

The next part was he was coming Tenet and led to Nolan about taking a day off to test cause he didn't want to upset him! Nolan figured it out of course :funny:
