I wonder if they will do anything at Comic Con considering the possibility of getting heckled by a certain vocal group of fans that aren't too happy about the reboot.

The virtual DC events in the past seemed to be popular with people. Might as well ditch Comic Con and stick with that. At least it's a platform they can control.

There's pretty much zero benefit to the idea of announcing it at Comic Con.

Both WB and Marvel have been using Trilith Studios in Georgia for several comic book movies. Gunn filmed Guardians 2 and 3 there. He also filmed The Suicide Squad there.

Captain America: New World Order just started filming there. I thought Superman might be next but then I saw Marvel has Thunderbolts and Blade to film this year for a 2024 release. They also have Fantastic Four for Feb 2025 and Avengers for May 2025. Not all those movies are going to be filmed at Trilith but some will.

Batman II is going to start filming at WB Leavesden Studios in November.

Guardians 3 had a long film shoot but I don't know if the inclusion of the Christmas Special had anything to do with it. He shot that from November 8, 2021 to May 6, 2022.

Okay, come on…

Avoiding anything public is just giving them way too much power, and frankly more than they deserve.

I was watching old clips of Comic Con on YouTube.
The BvS announcement by Harry Lennix is still one of the loudest reactions I’ve ever seen.
Having the right product to show off is half the belittle to winning the audience.
I’d love them to do a Superman: Legacy panel at this years con, but with Disney moving away from it with their own D23 and WB having their own virtual event, I’d say Comic Con’s best days are behind it.

I find it hard to believe that he, AT THE LEAST, doesn't have a short list..

I'll even wager conversations with some candidates have happened by now as well.

So yes, he does have an idea on who by now, he's just not saying.

*shrug* Just saying. Pretty sure Ruffalo got audible boos at Comic Con 2010.

When Avengers came out he was one of my favorites. He felt like a modern day Bill Bixby, just in a more comic book world than what Bix got to inhabit back in the heyday of his show. Avengers Hulk was the peak Hulk for me. He was really good in Thor: Ragnarok as well.

I don't think Bana or Norton really had very good Bruce Banners.

Bana had the darkness and intensity that Bixby did. Norton was more believable as a scientist. Ruffalo just doesn’t work for me. I liked him in Avengers. His real life personality is all over his portrayal and I don’t think it fits the character. I’m not a fan of MCU Hulk or Banner. The character should have remained more dark in tone

I both agree and disagree. He's great in The Avengers but gets written gradually worse and worse as the franchise goes on. I'm okay with him being goofy in Ragnarok because that is a comedy but his characterization on the Russo Avengers movies - like a lot of their characterization compared to Whedon - irks me.

Hulk got nerfed/sacrificed so the other heroes could shine.
When Thanos beat him down and knocked him out in under a minute, is when the old hulk died, and the new kinder, gentler, hulk was born.

Christopher Reeve
Tom Welling
Tyler Hoechlin
George Reeves
Dean Cain
Brandon Routh
Henry Cavill
Gerard Christopher
Kirk Alyn
John Haynes Newton

I think that’s my current Superman ranking. I think Smallville is cheesy and made a million mistakes but I love Welling in the role. It’s also for my money the most complete and satisfying telling of the Superman saga.

Cavill is a very bad actor in my opinion. He delivered his lines and emoted in such a wooden way in the movies he was in. I really did not enjoy his portrayal, in spite of generally enjoying the movies he was part of.

Cavill was a bad Superman in good movies, while Routh and Cain were good Supermen in bad movies/shows.

Superman and Lois season 1 is some of the best Superman content ever and then the quality torpedoed with s2 and 3. Now it is genuinely unwatchable, but I enjoy Hoechlin a lot. He doesn’t look perfect in the role, but I love his performance.

I still don’t see what some of you guys see in Routh, at least in SR. He was like a zombie in that movie. He barely spoke, and when he did, he sounded stilted and unnatural. Most of the time he just lurked around with a blank look on his face. I don’t know if it was his inexperience as an actor or Singer’s direction, but either way, I probably could have looked past all that movie’s other shortcomings (and there were a lot) if at least Superman felt powerful and heroic. Instead, he was this weird, mopey MacGuffin in his own movie.

To be fair to Routh, he was actually much better when he played Superman again on the CW, during that Crisis thing. Everything around him was terrible but he was actually good and if he had shown some of that charisma back in 2006, I might have enjoyed SR more.

Anyway, none of this matters anymore but I just hope whoever Gunn picks as his Superman will have more charisma and charm than Routh, Cavill, Cain or Welling. Though that honestly shouldn’t be too hard.

I pointed out after my most recent watch of that movie that I felt James Marsden came off more like Superman then Routh did.

I guess you cant really guess casting from other casting but its fun we are finally seeing names put to faces.

I felt the same way.
The SR script and the director didn't do him any favors, but I also think, he hadn't grown as an actor yet when he did SR.

I don't think it was an age thing .

I just don't think he was that great an actor at that point in his career.

By the time we get around to the Crisis crossover, he was a much more experienced actor, which also gave him the gravitas that his previous iteration had lacked.

Yeah, I think you’re right. He was very green in SR and needed some more training as an actor. I think maybe it could have worked if he was a Superman who was just starting out; having him just being kind of mopey and awkward could have worked for something like that. But this was supposed to be the Reeve Superman, and not for one second did Routh have that kind of gravitas or presence.

I think Routh's Clark is legit endearing at times. When he's being bulldozed by Lois's talking or being introduced to Richard or saying hi to the kid or eating his burrito, he's funny and sweet. Maybe it came easier to him bc he was a shy guy himself. His Superman is mostly weak, but I think the plane bit with the people is good and probably his best scene.

Yeah, I think his wallflower Clark wasn’t bad; the problem I had was that his Superman also felt like a wallflower. I don’t think Singer or Routh knew how to create a character who displayed leadership and courage, while also conveying the kind of gentle nature where he would stop to get a cat down from a tree. Reeve pulled it off so well it almost seemed effortless. It’s a shame that neither Routh nor Cavill could do the same in later movies.

Hoechlin can differentiate well. I think his Clark is perfect and his Superman is good and getting better - certainly more assertive than Routh’s. Reeve was the best Superman but I prefer Hoechlin’s Clark.

Yeah I did like what I saw from Hoechlin’s Clark. I should probably give S&L another shot at some point.

How far in did you get? His Superman steadily improves throughout. Also get in on the season 3 chat live if you can catch up. :cwink:

The opening credits and the plane rescue scene are the only ones I repeatedly watch on YouTube.

And the initial teaser trailer with Jor-El’s voiceover and the Planet Krypton score from the original move.
