Are people believing this rumor to have some substance, or not? I can't really tell.

As for Abrams, I must say the "Lost" pilot may be the best pilot I have ever seen, it hit the marks on everything, at least to me

I’m all for JJ taking this on. Yeah, he’s not always the best with big ideas but one thing he does get is character. Superman needs to be charming and likable again. And his films almost always look great. Where Abrams falters is in deeper storytelling but I’ll gladly sacrifice that if the end result isn’t a movie that divides the fan base again.

I don't need Shakespeare for a Supes reboot, and frankly, I don't WANT anybody trying to get too deep with it because I think people trying to overthink the character is exactly what got us in this mess in the first place. Give me an honest-to-God crowd-pleaser starring Superman. Crazy to think that's such an outlandish request, but at this point, it feels downright novel. I want back to basics, plain and simple. Heart and humor, baby! And I don't think that's aiming low. I think that's aiming exactly where Supes needs us to aim right now - a fun favorite, a comfort movie that people will want to come back to again and again, watch whenever it's playing on TV, etc. Like those earlier Abrams projects. Once we HAVE that, and the crowds are actually engaged and on board with the character again, THEN let them (as in, other creatives, lol) get ambitious with it. Right now, Supes basically needs his Phase 1 Marvel movie equivalent. Badly, imo.

But he's good at ONE thing, something he does better than anyone else in the business, imo, as he's proven it 3 times over - revitalizing old franchises the audience thought they had lost interest in, making them feel fresh, with that fresh injection of humor and heart and modern feel, but at the same time keeping to the aspects made people like them in the first place, and getting a whole new group of fans interested in it for the first time. And that just so happens to be the ONE thing Supes needs right now, imo. It's literally the ONLY project he'd ever be my top pick for, but I honestly feel it's the one he was born for. And he feels the same, considering Supes has been his white whale for 20 years now. And God it would be nice to have someone back in charge who genuinely loves Supes to begin with, and loves the character for everything he already is, instead of what they feel they could turn him into or what worldview they could use him as a tool to express.

I agree with this so much. Superman, more than any other hero, needs that big crowd pleasing blockbuster right now. Simple, straight forward, and with lots of heart. Back to basics is what he needs. Returns failed to excite audiences and then Snyder's take divided people more than I would have ever thought possible. A nice safe film that wins back the audience and doesn't divide people is exactly what he needs. You can dive deeper in sequels but you've got to get the basics right first.

Wasn’t Zemeckis on the Man of Steel short list? And also for Flash??

Zemeckis told MTV in 2010 he passed on Superman, mentioning this was like the seventeenth version of him. He was also supposedly quoted as saying he passed on it faster than a speeding bullet. It might not have been a dislike of the character as much as it had been done before. He sounded more willing to take on the Flash. It has never been on the big screen and Zemeckis might find tackling a comic book property more appealing at this point in his career as opposed to 2010.

I'll vouch for her. She's a good actress .

There are tons of clips of her on youtube if people want to get a sense of her acting.

I wondered if WB was still trying to get supergirl off the ground, no pun intended.

Please for the love of God keep Abrams away from Superman. He might have sensibilities on the surface, but that's where it ends. His Superman movie will be very surface level, with the feeling of how a Superman movie should be as an idea only. And while he may get that feeling right, it'll be no closer to be a quality, functional story. It'll probably have some meta narrative. And be well shot to cover up how dysfunctional the story is. Any competent screenwriter who works with him will be a submissive to his lack of storytelling prowess. Unfortunately he has had so much success no one will tell him otherwise.

And because it won't be the nightmare that was BVS or MOS, it will be hailed as a triumph and the best movie since STM. We wouldn't be redeeming Superman, we would just throw it further into the gutter.

He can only direct if he was totally divorced from the creative process, the script mailed to him and says, "Thank you" and shoots the script as is not changing anything about it. He can cast it, keep Mindel as DP, but otherwise keep him the hell away. I absolutely dread an Abrams Superman movie.

I agree with basically everything you said. JJ Abrams is the most overrated director in the industry. I know what my experience would be: possible initial enjoyment followed by a growing dislike in rewatches until in the end I am left with the feeling of being underwhelmed. I too want the steak dinner.

When a new director is hired for an already familiar and loved franchise, and they use words like "my vision", "reimagined", or, "make him/her cooler", etc, I cringe because that person is most likely going to destroy it or at the least divide the fans right down the middle.
There is no reason to reinvent the wheel when said wheel is rolling just fine.

That said, I think Abrams would be perfect for superman. He is a huge fan.
He would most likely bring birtright or man of tomorrow to life, cheesy boyscout and all.
Bring it on...

I think the origin has been done enough.
We and the public all know it.

I would like to see this open with the pages of a comic rapidly turning.
We see all the history.

Jor-el and Lara saying goodbye to kal.
The ship launching,
Krypton exploding,
the Kent's finding the ship,
infant clark,
a teenaged Clark lifting a tractor over his head,
him at college,
and finally the Dp with Clark working.

We also see villains that superman has faced over the years and him beating them ( metallo, bizarre, etc)
We see lex angrily pound a desk in frustration at losing to superman again.

We finally see it fade to live action and an already established and confident superman.

We hear a sound. The camera looks up. We are expecting to See superman, but we instead see Lobo.

And brainiac sent him. He has s bounty on superman. He wants to collect him.

Batman and Robin, T3, Spiderman 3, the mummy 3, man of steel ( to an extent),
Potc 4, pacific rim 2, the new hellboy.

JJ producing too. It was inevitable.

i definitely think Reeves and Abrams eventually plan to put their two heroes together at some point in the future.

I hope, kinda' that this is another Batterson in the sense that it'll be an independent solo trilogy and that the DCEU (whatever it even is anymore) will continue with Cavil.
